Casino bonus questions answered in plain English
This hub collects the casino bonus questions people search for most, each answered on its own short page. Every answer starts with a direct one-sentence reply, then adds the numbers, the UK rule behind it, the common misunderstandings and what to do next. If you have a single thing you need to know, such as whether you can withdraw your deposit with a bonus active or why your free spins haven't appeared, a question page is the quickest route.
The answers are educational and don't promote offers. They draw on the Gambling Commission's rules and guidance, consumer law, the advertising codes and casinos' published terms, and they say plainly where the answer depends on a particular casino's terms. Where a question needs more than a short answer, the page points you to a fuller guide or rule page.
One thing runs through all of them: a bonus never changes a game's odds, and gambling is a paid-for form of entertainment rather than a way to earn money. Questions about money are answered in pounds, with averages labelled as averages.
The questions fall into a few natural shapes. ‘Can I…?’ pages deal with what the terms and rules allow. ‘Why…?’ pages explain the reasons behind a restriction or a problem, such as an excluded payment method. ‘Is it worth…?’ pages do the sums. ‘What happens if…?’ pages walk through the consequences of a step, such as withdrawing early or breaking the maximum bet, so you can decide before you act.

|---|

|---|
| Can I use a credit card? | No; banned for gambling since 14 April 2020 |
|---|
| Do I need ID before claiming? | Yes; age and identity must be verified before you deposit or play |

The deposit point comes from the Commission's guidance on restrictions on withdrawing deposits (opens in a new tab), and the tax point from HMRC's business income manual (opens in a new tab), which says gambling as such is not trading. For free spins in more depth, see are free spins really free?.
A worked example shows why the withdrawal answer matters. Say you deposit £20 and receive a £10 bonus with 10x wagering, so £100 of bets are needed. After £40 of play your balance shows £15 of cash and £8 of bonus funds. You can withdraw the £15 of cash at any time; the terms may then cancel the remaining £8 of bonus funds, but they can't stop you taking your own money.
Answers that changed in 2025 and 2026
Several common casino bonus questions now have different answers from a couple of years ago. If you read an older article elsewhere, check its date against these changes.
- Wagering: until 19 January 2026 there was no legal cap; now it is 10x the bonus. See does the 10x cap apply to free spins?
- Sports and casino offers: since the same date one promotion can't cover both, so ‘bet on football, get casino spins’ offers are gone.
- Stake size: since 9 April 2025 online slot spins are capped at £5 for players aged 25+, and since 21 May 2025 at £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds; see can under 25s claim bonuses?
- Marketing: since 1 May 2025 you choose which products and channels can contact you, which changes the answer to how do I stop bonus offers?
- Limits: since 31 October 2025 you're prompted to set a financial limit before your first deposit.
- Duty: since 1 April 2026 operators pay remote gaming duty at 40% rather than 21%; players' winnings remain untaxed.
The answer to ‘are affordability checks live?’ has not changed: financial risk assessments were piloted but are not in force, while a lighter financial vulnerability check applies from £150 of net deposits in 30 days.
How to find the right answer quickly
- Turn your problem into a short question, such as ‘why did my bonus disappear?’
- Find its group in the topic table and open the closest card.
- Read the first sentence for the direct answer, then the section that matches your situation.
- Check the casino's own terms for the specific figure, because many answers depend on them.
- If the answer is ‘contact support’ or ‘complain’, use the casino's process first and keep a record.
If your question is really about a word in the terms, the casino bonus glossary may be faster, and if you need a longer how-to, try the casino bonus guides. For disputes that the casino can't resolve within eight weeks, IBAS (opens in a new tab) is one of the free dispute services casinos must offer.
When you contact support, give the facts in one message: the promotion's name, the date and amount of your deposit, the payment method, whether you opted in, and screenshots of your balance or the terms if you have them. A clear, dated record makes the answer quicker and, if it comes to a complaint, gives you the evidence you need.
Myths that our casino bonus questions correct
A handful of beliefs come up again and again in the questions people search. Each one has a page explaining why it doesn't hold.
- ‘Bonuses make gambling safer.’ They don't; the house edge applies to every bet. Read is gambling with a bonus safer?
- ‘Casinos rig games when a bonus is active.’ UK rules forbid adaptive games, and a game's rules and payouts can't change while it's available; see are casino bonuses rigged?
- ‘You can open a second account to claim again.’ That breaks the terms and can void winnings; see claiming on a second account.
- ‘A casino can confiscate your deposit if you don't verify in time.’ It can't; un-staked deposits remain yours.
The Commission's consumer guide on fair and transparent terms (opens in a new tab) covers several of these points. If questions about bonuses have turned into worries about your gambling, the safer gambling page lists free, confidential support.
Frequently asked questions
Where should I start with casino bonus questions?
Start with the topic table on this page, which groups the questions into how bonuses work, free spins, wagering, withdrawals, problems, rules and tax, and fair play. Each group has a suggested first page. If you need only a quick answer, the short answers table gives one line for the most common questions. Every question page opens with a direct answer, so you'll know within a sentence whether it's the page you need. The how casino bonuses work page is a good general start.
How accurate are the answers on the question pages?
Each answer is based on published sources: Gambling Commission rules and guidance, consumer law, the advertising codes and casinos' own terms and help pages. Rules are dated so you can see when they took effect. Where the answer depends on a specific casino's terms, the page says so rather than guessing. Answers reflect the position in October 2026 and are updated when the rules change. If you think something is wrong, our contact page explains how to tell us, and we check every report.
Can I withdraw winnings from a bonus straight away?
It depends on the bonus. Winnings from no-wagering spins are usually paid as cash and can be withdrawn under the casino's normal rules. Winnings from a deposit match normally sit as bonus funds until wagering is complete, which in the UK can't exceed 10 times the bonus. Your own deposit can always be withdrawn, though withdrawing may cancel the bonus. Verification must also be complete. Our bonus withdrawal question explains what to expect.
Why did my free spins not show up?
The usual reasons are that you didn't opt in, deposited with an excluded payment method, didn't meet the qualifying bet, or are looking in the wrong game. Some spins must be accepted within a set window, and some arrive only after the qualifying bet has settled. Check the promotion terms against what you did, then contact support with the date, amount and method of your deposit. The free spins not showing question has a checklist.
Is a casino bonus worth claiming?
Sometimes, if it suits how you already play and you understand the terms. Work out its value in pounds, subtract the average cost of any wagering, and check the deadline, maximum bet and payment exclusions. If claiming would push you to deposit more or play longer than you planned, it isn't worth it. A bonus never changes the house edge, so it doesn't make gambling cheaper over time. The is a bonus worth it guide shows the sums.
Can a casino take back a bonus I've been given?
In some situations. A casino can remove a bonus if you break clearly stated terms, such as the maximum bet, if the bonus expires before wagering is complete, or if you withdraw your deposit while it's active and the terms say this cancels it. It must not keep sole discretion to decide what counts as a breach, and it must explain why winnings were removed. Unclear terms are read in your favour. See can a casino take back a bonus?
Do I have to accept a bonus when I deposit?
No. Bonuses must be opt-in, so you shouldn't be enrolled automatically, and you can play with just your own money if you prefer. Declining a bonus often makes sense if you want to play table games that the terms exclude, or if you want to be able to withdraw at any time without a bonus being cancelled. You can usually decline at the deposit step or ask support to remove a bonus before you play. Our opt-out question covers the pros and cons.
What should I do if a casino won't answer my bonus question?
Put the question in writing through the casino's live chat or email and keep a copy, including the date. If the issue is a dispute, such as winnings being withheld, use the casino's formal complaints procedure. The casino has eight weeks to resolve a complaint, after which it must offer referral to a free alternative dispute resolution provider. The Gambling Commission doesn't resolve individual complaints. Our page on where to complain about a casino sets out each step.
