Can you cancel a casino bonus?

Can you cancel a casino bonus? In most cases, yes. UK casinos generally let you forfeit an active bonus through your account or live chat, and you keep your own deposited cash while losing the bonus funds and anything won with them. With no-wagering free spins there is often nothing to cancel: you can simply leave them unused until they expire.

Key takeaways

  • Cancelling a bonus usually removes the bonus balance and bonus winnings, not your own deposited cash.
  • The CMA’s 2018 undertakings say players must be able to withdraw their own deposits during bonus play.
  • Opt-in offers are the easiest to avoid: don’t tick the box if you don’t want the bonus.
  • A withdrawal, once requested, can’t be reversed, so decide about the bonus before you cash out.

Can you cancel a casino bonus? Yes, with one trade-off

You can usually cancel a casino bonus at a UK-licensed casino, and the trade-off is simple: the bonus goes, and so does anything it has won. Your own money stays. Casinos describe this as forfeiting, removing or declining a bonus, and most let you do it from a bonus or promotions page in your account, or by asking live chat.

People cancel bonuses for sensible reasons: the wagering looks too demanding, they want to play a game the bonus excludes, they want to stake above the bonus max bet, or they simply want their deposit back without strings. Whatever the reason, it is your decision. For other bonus queries, see our casino bonus questions.

The key question is which money is tagged as bonus. Many casinos keep cash and bonus in separate balances and use them in a set order, which the terms describe. Our guide on how bonus funds and cash are used explains the common orders, and the bonus balance entry shows how the split appears in an account.

Cancelling a deposit match bonus: two worked examples

A 50% bonus with 7 days to wager

Casumo’s welcome offer is a 50% deposit bonus up to £100, with a minimum £20 deposit, 10x wagering within 7 days and a £5 maximum bet while the bonus is active. A £100 deposit brings a £50 bonus and £500 of wagering. Imagine that after a day of play the account shows £60 of cash and £35 of bonus funds. Cancelling would remove the £35 and any winnings the terms treat as bonus winnings, and leave the cash to withdraw or play without bonus restrictions. Exactly how much of the £60 counts as cash depends on Casumo’s order of play, so check its bonus funds explainer or ask support first.

A 100% bonus with 3 days to wager

10bet’s welcome offer is a 100% deposit bonus up to £25, chosen at sign-up, with 10x wagering on slots within 3 days and maximum bonus winnings of £1,000. A £25 deposit gives £50 to play with and £250 to wager. If you realise on day two that you won’t finish in time, cancelling leaves whatever cash is left, rather than waiting for the deadline to remove the bonus and its winnings automatically. Either way, the bonus portion is gone; cancelling just ends the restrictions sooner.

Can you cancel free spins?

With no-wagering free spins there is usually nothing to cancel, because there is no bonus balance holding back your cash. If you don’t want the spins, don’t accept or play them. Coral gives you 48 hours to accept its 100 spins, after which the offer lapses; Ladbrokes’ daily spins must be claimed before 23:59 each day, so skipping a day simply means those 50 spins aren’t credited. PlayOJO’s spins come with the first deposit; if you don’t want them, check the offer terms for how long they last and ask support whether they can be removed.

Spins with wagering are different, because playing them creates a bonus balance that restricts withdrawals. Ask support to remove them before you play if you don’t want the restriction. Our page on how to cancel free spins goes into more detail, and free spins expiry explains what happens to unused spins.

Your deposit stays yours when you cancel

In 2018 the Competition and Markets Authority secured undertakings from several large operators, recorded on its online gambling case page (opens in a new tab), that players must be able to withdraw their own deposited money during bonus play, that significant terms must be shown up front, and that winnings shouldn’t be forfeited unfairly. The Gambling Commission’s rules add that bonus terms must be clear and readily available. Our page on the CMA bonus principles sums up the undertakings.

In practice, a casino’s terms may say that withdrawing cash while a bonus is active cancels the bonus. That is generally acceptable, as long as it is stated clearly. What a casino shouldn’t do is keep your deposited money hostage to wagering. If it does, see can I withdraw my deposit with a bonus active.

How can you cancel a casino bonus? Step by step

  1. Open your account menu and find the bonus, promotions or rewards section.
  2. Note your current cash balance, bonus balance and wagering progress, and take a screenshot.
  3. Look for a forfeit, cancel or remove option next to the active bonus; if there isn’t one, open live chat.
  4. Ask what will be removed and what will stay as cash, and get the answer in the chat transcript.
  5. Confirm the cancellation and check that the bonus balance has gone and the cash balance matches what you were told.
  6. If you plan to withdraw, do it only after the bonus is removed, because a requested withdrawal can’t be reversed.

Cancelling a bonus is not the same as cancelling a withdrawal

People sometimes search for how to cancel a casino bonus when they really mean undoing a withdrawal. Since 31 October 2021, UK casinos haven’t been allowed to give customers the option to cancel a withdrawal request and play the money instead. The Gambling Commission’s decision on reverse withdrawals (opens in a new tab) was designed to stop players being tempted to gamble money they had already decided to take out.

So the order matters. If withdrawing would cancel your bonus and you want to keep the bonus, don’t request a withdrawal. If you want your money, the withdrawal will go through, and any bonus attached may be forfeited under the terms. Read how withdrawals cancel bonuses and the reverse withdrawal entry for more.

When cancelling a casino bonus makes sense

Advantages

  • Frees your cash from the bonus max bet and game restrictions.
  • Ends a wagering requirement you are unlikely to finish in time.
  • Lets you withdraw without waiting for a playthrough.
  • Removes a reason to keep playing longer than you intended.

Drawbacks

  • Any winnings counted as bonus winnings are lost.
  • The welcome offer normally can’t be claimed again later.
  • Wagering already done doesn’t carry over to anything else.

If you are cancelling because a bonus is encouraging you to play more than you want to, that is a good reason. You can also stop future offers: see the section below and should I opt out of a bonus.

Cancelling all future bonuses and offers

Cancelling one bonus doesn’t stop the next. Since 1 May 2025, casinos have had to let you choose marketing by product (casino, betting, bingo) and channel (email, SMS, phone), with opt-out as the default for new customers. You can change these choices at any time in your account settings, and the Commission explains how to stop gambling marketing texts and emails (opens in a new tab). Many casinos will also mark your account to exclude it from promotions if you ask.

Step-by-step help is in our guides on how to opt out of bonuses and how to stop bonus emails.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose my winnings if I cancel a bonus?

You lose winnings the terms count as bonus winnings, and keep winnings made from your own cash. Which is which depends on how the casino orders play between cash and bonus balances. Some use cash first, so early winnings are cash; others treat everything after the bonus is credited as bonus-linked. Ask support for a breakdown before you confirm, and screenshot your balances. If you have already met the wagering, there is nothing to cancel: the bonus has converted to cash. See what happens if I lose my bonus.

Can I cancel a bonus and keep my deposit?

Yes, in most cases, as long as you haven’t already lost the deposit in play. The CMA’s 2018 undertakings with large operators say players must be able to withdraw their own deposited money during bonus play, and Gambling Commission rules require bonus terms to be clear and fair. Cancelling the bonus removes the bonus funds and related winnings; the remaining cash is yours to withdraw. If a casino refuses, ask for the exact term in writing. Our bonus withdrawal rules page explains your position.

Can I cancel a bonus after I have started wagering?

Usually yes. Most casinos let you forfeit a bonus at any point before the wagering is complete. The wagering you have already done is lost, and so are the remaining bonus funds and any bonus winnings. If you are close to finishing, compare what you would keep by cancelling with what you would keep by completing the playthrough, remembering that each pound wagered costs the house edge on average. Our wagering calculator helps with the numbers.

Why can’t I find a cancel button for my bonus?

Some casinos don’t offer a self-service option and handle bonus removal through support. Others only show it in a separate bonuses or rewards area, not the cashier. Open live chat or email support, ask them to remove the active bonus, and request confirmation of what will stay as cash. Coral and Ladbrokes support can be reached through their help centres, and PlayOJO offers live chat after login and email. Our guide on contacting support about a bonus lists what to include.

Can I swap my bonus for a different one?

Rarely. Once you have opted into a welcome bonus, most terms treat it as your one welcome offer, and cancelling it doesn’t open another. Where a casino offers a choice at sign-up, such as 10bet asking you to select the casino welcome bonus, the choice is normally final once you deposit. If you made a mistake, ask support before you play; some will help if nothing has been wagered. See can I change my bonus for more.

Does cancelling a bonus affect my account?

It shouldn’t affect your account standing. Cancelling a bonus is a normal option and not a breach of terms. Your account stays open, your deposits remain yours and you can keep playing with cash. You may become ineligible for the specific offer you cancelled, and some casinos limit future promotions for players who repeatedly claim and cancel bonuses, which their terms should explain. Our promotional restriction entry explains how such limits work.

Can a casino cancel my bonus without asking me?

Yes, in situations its terms describe, such as an expired wagering period, a breach of the max bet rule or a withdrawal while the bonus is active. Casinos must also stop new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of gambling harm. Removal for reasons not in the terms, or on a vague discretionary clause, may be unfair. The Gambling Commission fined one operator £170,000 in July 2025 partly for a term letting it forfeit winnings at its discretion. Read can a casino take back a bonus.

Is cancelling a bonus the same as opting out?

Not quite. Cancelling removes a bonus you already have. Opting out means not taking a bonus in the first place, either by not ticking an opt-in box or by asking the casino to exclude your account from promotions. Casumo, for example, requires you to opt in to its welcome bonus, so a player who doesn’t want it simply doesn’t opt in. Opting out of marketing stops offers arriving by email, SMS or phone. Our opt in bonus page explains the opt-in step.

What should I do if I want to stop using bonuses altogether?

Ask each casino to exclude your account from promotions and turn off marketing by product and channel in your settings.
