Why do bonuses expire? Because a casino bonus is a promotion with a set budget, and an open-ended offer would leave the casino holding unused promotional balances indefinitely. Deadlines cap that cost and keep the offer tied to a sign-up. Your own deposited money doesn’t expire in the same way; only the bonus, its unused spins and any bonus winnings can lapse.
Expiry limits the casino’s cost and keeps a promotion short and measurable.
There are three clocks: the claim window, the validity period and the wagering deadline.
When a bonus lapses you lose the bonus and its winnings, never your deposit balance.
UK rules require time limits to be stated clearly as significant conditions; short deadlines are a reason to slow down, not speed up.

Why do bonuses expire? Four reasons behind the deadline
Every bonus has an expected cost to the casino. A deadline turns that cost into something the operator can count and close off. Without one, bonus balances and unused spins would sit on accounts for months or years, still owed in principle and still affecting the casino’s figures. The reasons usually come down to four points:
Budget control. A promotion is paid for from a marketing budget for a set period. Expiry stops the cost running on after that period ends.
Purpose. A welcome offer exists to introduce a new customer to the site. An offer used a year later no longer does that job.
Record-keeping. Unused promotional balances need tracking. A cut-off date lets the casino clear them in an orderly way.
Clear rules for everyone. A fixed window means each customer gets the same deal, which makes the terms simpler to state and enforce.
None of those reasons are hidden. UK advertising guidance treats time limits to claim or use an offer as a significant condition that must be shown prominently. This page is part of our casino bonus questions section, and our broader guide to bonus expiry collects the time limits on UK welcome offers.
The three bonus expiry clocks and how they differ
People often talk about a bonus ‘expiring’ as if there were one deadline. In most terms there are up to three, and each one ends something different.
Bonus time limits and what each one controls
Clock
What it controls
Partner example (18+, terms apply)
Claim window
How long you have to accept or activate the offer
Coral: accept spins within 48 hours; Ladbrokes: claim each day’s spins before 23:59
Validity period
How long credited spins or bonus funds can be used
Coral and Ladbrokes: spins valid for 7 days
Wagering deadline
How long you have to meet the wagering requirement
Casumo: 10x within 7 days; 10bet: 10x on slots within 3 days
Qualifying window
How long after sign-up you can make the qualifying deposit
10bet: first deposit within 7 days of choosing the casino bonus
The glossary entries on the claim window and the validity period explain the two most common clocks, and free spins expiry looks at spin offers specifically. PlayOJO’s help page says free spins expire after 24 hours and that the Rewards section shows each spin’s game, value and deadline, so check that section as soon as the spins appear.
What you lose when a casino bonus expires
When a deadline passes, the casino removes whatever is still promotional. That usually means unused free spins, the remaining bonus balance and any winnings still locked to the bonus. What it can’t take is your deposit balance. Gambling Commission guidance on un-staked deposits (opens in a new tab) says deposited money remains the customer’s property, and separate guidance stops operators confiscating deposit-balance funds just because an account goes quiet.
With no-wagering offers, any winnings from spins you have already played are normally paid as cash straight away, so the deadline only removes spins you haven’t used. That’s a key difference from a match bonus, where an unfinished wagering requirement can wipe out bonus winnings built up over several days. Read what happens if I lose my bonus and why did my bonus disappear for the common scenarios.
Bonus expiry in pounds: what a deadline means per day
A wagering deadline is easier to judge when you divide the total by the days available. These figures use our partners’ published terms and show the average amount you would need to stake each day to finish in time.

At 50p a spin, £83 a day is about 166 spins every day for three days. At a typical 96% RTP, the average cost of £250 of wagering is about £10, though any run of spins can differ a great deal. If that pace doesn’t suit the time or money you planned to spend, a smaller bonus or no bonus at all is the sensible choice. The wagering calculator does the sums for any amount, and how to calculate wagering requirements shows the method.
A deadline should never set the pace of your play. If you notice yourself speeding up to beat the clock, that is a good moment to stop and let the bonus lapse.
Daily spin offers: why each batch has its own expiry
Ladbrokes spreads its welcome spins across ten days: 50 free spins a day after a £10 slots spend, up to 500 in total, each claimed before 23:59 that day and valid for 7 days. Missing a day means that day’s 50 spins (£5 of value at 10p) are gone; the rest of the run isn’t affected. The daily structure is a deliberate design choice that spreads the cost over time. Our comparison of daily free spins vs one-off free spins weighs the two formats, and Ladbrokes bonus expiry covers that offer’s dates.
UK rules on bonus deadlines and time limits
No UK rule sets a minimum or maximum time for a bonus to last. The rules focus on how time limits are communicated and how they interact with other terms:
Time limits are significant conditions. The ASA’s guidance on free bets and bonuses (opens in a new tab) lists time limits to claim or use an offer among the conditions that must be stated clearly and prominently.
Terms must be available for the whole promotion. The Commission’s marketing code 5.1.9 (opens in a new tab) requires each incentive’s terms to stay available for its full duration.
No bigger reward for qualifying faster. A casino can’t alter or increase an incentive because you reach the qualifying spend sooner than the full offer period. That is separate from an ordinary expiry date.
Wagering is capped at 10x. A short deadline can’t be paired with heavy wagering any more, because the 10x wagering cap applies to every UK casino bonus.
They can. A ticking clock creates pressure, and pressure is a poor guide to spending. Several UK rules already pull against that: offers can’t be increased because you qualify sooner, operators must stop new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of harm, and every new customer is prompted to set a financial limit before their first deposit (since 31 October 2025). Our guide to bonuses and gambling harm and the page on when to say no to a bonus explain the warning signs.
Bonus expiry myths and facts
Advantages
Fact: your deposit balance stays yours after a bonus lapses.
Fact: no-wagering spin winnings already paid as cash don’t vanish at the deadline.
Fact: expiry dates must be shown as a significant condition before you sign up.
Drawbacks
Myth: support can always extend an expired bonus. Some may, but there’s no right to an extension.
Myth: logging in resets the clock. Validity runs from crediting, not from your last visit.
Myth: a longer deadline means a better offer. Wagering size and game rules matter more.
How to keep track of a bonus before it expires
Before you opt in, write down each clock: claim window, validity period and any wagering deadline.
Check the times are in UK time and note whether a day ends at 23:59 or after a set number of hours.
After the qualifying bet or deposit, open the bonus or rewards area to confirm the spins or funds have arrived.
Use spins or bonus funds only during sessions you had already planned, within your limits.
Watch the wagering progress bar if the offer has wagering, and decide early whether to continue or opt out.
If spins or funds don’t appear in time, contact support straight away and keep a record.
Bonuses with the clearest deadlines: our partners compared
Every partner offer has a time limit; the difference is how much depends on it. With no wagering, a deadline only affects spins you haven’t used yet. All three offers below are for new customers aged 18+, and terms apply.
Coral: deposit (some payment types excluded) and bet £10 on slots for 100 free spins at 10p (£10 of spins) on selected games. Accept within 48 hours and use within 7 days; spin winnings carry no wagering. The offer runs from 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027. See Coral bonus expiry.
Ladbrokes: deposit and spend £10 on slots for 50 free spins a day for 10 days (up to 500 spins, up to £50 at 10p). Claim each batch before 23:59 that day; spins are valid for 7 days on selected games, with no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don’t qualify.
PlayOJO: 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p (£8 of spins) on a first deposit of £10 or more, with winnings paid in cash. UK customers excluding Northern Ireland, via the designated link only. PlayOJO’s help page says free spins expire after 24 hours; see PlayOJO bonus expiry.
Coral’s single 7-day batch is the simplest to track. Ladbrokes gives more spins but asks you to claim on ten separate days. Whichever you choose, gambling costs money and losses are the likely result over time.
Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open a new account with another; check the terms before signing up.

Frequently asked questions
Why do casino bonuses have time limits?
Casino bonuses have time limits because each promotion has a fixed budget and purpose. A deadline caps how long the casino carries the cost of unused spins or bonus funds and keeps a welcome offer linked to the start of a new account. It also gives every customer the same rules. UK advertising guidance says these time limits are significant conditions that must be shown clearly with the offer. See our bonus expiry guide for UK examples and the validity period glossary entry for the term casinos use.
Do I lose my deposit when a bonus expires?
No. When a bonus lapses, the casino removes the bonus balance, unused spins and any winnings still tied to the bonus, but your deposit balance stays yours. Gambling Commission guidance says un-staked deposits remain the customer’s property and that you can withdraw your deposit balance at any time, even with a bonus active. Money you have already staked and lost is gone, of course. For your withdrawal rights, read can I withdraw my deposit with a bonus active and the bonus withdrawal rules page.
How long do free spins usually last in the UK?
It varies by offer, so check the terms each time. Among our partners, Coral’s spins must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days, and each daily batch of Ladbrokes spins is valid for 7 days once claimed before 23:59. PlayOJO’s help page says free spins expire after 24 hours, with the deadline shown in its Rewards section. Short windows are common for spin offers. See free spins expiry and our Coral bonus expiry page for more detail.
Can a casino extend my bonus if it expires?
Some casinos will consider it, especially if a technical fault stopped you using the offer, but there is no general right to an extension. Contact support before the deadline if spins or funds haven’t arrived, and keep screenshots of the offer page and your account. If the casino failed to credit the bonus properly, that is a stronger case than simply running out of time. Read why was my bonus not credited and how to complain about a bonus for the steps to follow.
What happens to bonus winnings if wagering isn’t finished in time?
They are usually removed along with the remaining bonus. For example, Casumo asks for 10x wagering within 7 days and 10bet for 10x on slots within 3 days; if the target isn’t met by then, the bonus and the winnings attached to it can lapse under those terms. Cash winnings from no-wagering spins work differently because they are paid straight into your cash balance. See what happens if I lose my bonus and our wagering requirements guide for how this works.
Is a short bonus deadline legal in the UK?
Yes. No UK rule sets a minimum length for a bonus. What the rules require is that time limits are clear, prominent and stated with the offer, and that terms remain available for the whole promotion. Since 19 January 2026, wagering can’t exceed 10x the bonus, which limits how demanding a short window can be. A casino also can’t increase a bonus because you met the qualifying spend sooner. Read bonus terms must be clear and the time-based incentive rules for detail.
Why do Ladbrokes free spins expire each day?
Ladbrokes splits its welcome offer into ten daily batches of 50 free spins, up to 500 in total, after a £10 slots spend. Each batch must be claimed before 23:59 that day and is then valid for 7 days. The structure spreads the cost of the offer across the ten days. If you miss a day, you lose only that day’s 50 spins, worth £5 at 10p. The offer is for new customers aged 18+, with no wagering, and terms apply. See Ladbrokes free spins and our Ladbrokes bonus expiry page.
Does bonus money expire if my account is inactive?
Bonus funds follow the offer’s own deadline, so they normally lapse well before any inactivity rule applies. Deposit funds are treated differently: Gambling Commission guidance says operators can’t confiscate deposit-balance money because an account is inactive. A reasonable fee is allowed only once an account is dormant, must be in the terms, and players must be reminded at least 30 days before it is charged. Our dormant account entry explains the rule, and what happens to a bonus when I withdraw covers related questions.
Should I rush to use a bonus before it expires?
No. A deadline is the casino’s limit, not a target you need to meet. Playing faster or depositing more to beat a clock is a common way to spend more than you meant to. If the time limit doesn’t fit the sessions and budget you already planned, let the bonus lapse; you keep your deposit balance. Setting a deposit limit before claiming any offer is a good habit. Read when to say no to a bonus and should I opt out of a bonus for practical guidance.
