Validity period meaning, in general use, is the stretch of time during which something counts: a ticket, a voucher or a code. In casino bonus terms it is how long free spins or bonus funds stay usable after they reach your account. When it ends, anything unused is removed, so the length of that period has a direct effect on what an offer is worth.
The validity period is how long a reward stays usable once credited; Coral and Ladbrokes give 7 days for spins.
On match bonuses the wagering deadline does the same job: 7 days at Casumo, 3 days at 10bet.
Unplayed spins vanish at the end; cash already won from no-wagering spins stays yours.
A short period raises the pace of play needed, which is a reason to choose smaller offers or none.

Validity period meaning, in general and in bonus terms
Outside gambling, a validity period is simply the time something remains in force: a railcard valid for a year, a discount code valid until Sunday, a quote valid for 30 days. Casino terms borrow the same idea. Once a bonus, a batch of spins or a reward-game credit lands in your account, a clock starts, and the reward can only be used until that clock runs out.
In offer terms you will see it written as “valid for 7 days”, “spins expire after 7 days”, or, on match bonuses, as a wagering deadline such as “wager 10x within 7 days”. It sits after the claim window, which controls whether you can accept a reward at all, and alongside the wagering requirement, which controls how much play is needed before bonus money becomes cash.
Validity periods in real UK offers
Each partner’s terms set the period differently, and the effect differs too. Spin offers remove unplayed spins; match bonuses remove the bonus balance and anything won from it if wagering is unfinished.

Ladbrokes’ structure means validity periods overlap. The batch released on day 10 can still be used on day 16, so the offer can stay live for well over two weeks even though each batch lasts 7 days.
Worked example: the pace a validity period sets
A wagering deadline turns into a daily workload. Take 10bet’s offer at its cap: a £25 deposit brings a £25 bonus, and 10x wagering means £250 of slot bets within 3 days. That is roughly £83 of bets a day, or about 167 spins a day at 50p. At a 4% house edge, £250 of play costs around £10 on average, before any swing from a lucky or unlucky session.
Casumo’s maximum is bigger but the window longer: a £200 deposit brings £100 of bonus and £1,000 of wagering within 7 days, about £143 a day, with a £5 maximum bet while the bonus is active. Expected cost at 4% is about £40. Neither figure makes the bonus a source of profit; they are the average price of the entertainment. If the daily pace is more play than you would choose, a smaller deposit, a no-wagering spins offer or no bonus at all is the sensible answer. Our wagering calculator runs these numbers for any amount.

What happens when the validity period ends
Unplayed free spins are removed. With Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO, cash already won from played spins is not affected, because those spins carry no wagering.
An unwagered bonus balance is removed, together with winnings that are still locked to it. Our bonus forfeiture entry explains the process.
Your own deposit balance is never part of a bonus validity period. Gambling Commission guidance says operators must let you withdraw it at any time.
Rewards don’t usually reappear once removed, though a technical fault is worth reporting quickly.
UK rules behind the validity period
No UK rule fixes a minimum length. The rules focus on disclosure and fairness. The ASA’s guidance lists time limits to claim or use an offer among the significant conditions that belong with the headline, and the Gambling Commission requires incentive terms to be clear, fair and readily available, a requirement restated with the 10x wagering cap from 19 January 2026.
Which partner offers have the easiest validity periods
Spin offers with no wagering are the least demanding, because the only task inside the validity period is playing the spins. Coral’s 100 spins at 10p (£10 of spins) follow a £10 slots bet by a new player aged 18+ after a qualifying deposit; accept within 48 hours, then use within 7 days. PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don’t qualify. Ladbrokes gives new customers up to 500 spins (50 a day at 10p, £50 of spins) after a £10 slots spend, each batch claimed by 23:59 and valid 7 days, with similar payment exclusions.
PlayOJO’s 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza (10p each, £8 of spins) come with a first deposit of £10 or more for new UK customers aged 18+ outside Northern Ireland, and winnings are paid in cash. All are 18+ and terms apply. For a fuller comparison, see our no wagering free spins page.
Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open a new account with another; check the terms before signing up.

Frequently asked questions
What does validity period mean for a casino bonus?
It is the length of time a bonus, a batch of free spins or another reward stays usable after it is credited. When the period ends, anything unused is removed. For spins, that means unplayed spins disappear; for a match bonus, the bonus balance and any winnings still tied to it are forfeited if wagering isn’t complete. Coral and Ladbrokes give 7 days for their spins, while Casumo and 10bet set 7-day and 3-day wagering deadlines. Our bonus expiry guide and free spins expiry page give more examples.
When does a bonus validity period start?
It normally starts when the reward is credited or accepted, but the exact trigger is set by each offer’s terms. Coral’s spins have a 48-hour window to accept first, and the 7-day period then applies. Ladbrokes’ batches each carry their own 7 days from release. A match bonus’s wagering deadline typically runs from when the bonus is credited. If the wording is unclear, ask support before you start and keep a copy of the answer. Our claim window entry explains the stage before validity begins, and our bonus terms guide shows where to look.
Do I lose my winnings when free spins expire?
Not if the spins carry no wagering and you have already played them. With Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO, winnings from played spins are paid without wagering, so the end of the validity period only removes spins you haven’t used. Offers with wagering on spin winnings work differently: the winnings sit as bonus money, and if the play-through isn’t finished in time they are removed too. Always check which kind you have before you start. Our pages on free spins winnings and withdrawing free spins winnings explain the difference.
Can a casino extend a validity period?
It can choose to, but it isn’t obliged to, and extensions are uncommon. What an operator can’t do is shorten the period after you have opted in, because Gambling Commission guidance says promotions must not be varied for customers who have opted in except to prevent fraud or similar unlawful behaviour. If illness, a technical fault or a delay in verification stopped you using a reward, explain this to support and ask politely. Our answers on whether terms can change after opt-in and what happens if a casino changes bonus terms cover your position.
Is a 3-day validity period too short?
It depends on the size of the bonus and how you like to play. 10bet’s offer has a 3-day deadline but a small maximum bonus of £25, so wagering tops out at £250, or about £83 of bets a day. A larger bonus on the same deadline would demand far more play, which is a warning sign. If finishing in time would mean playing longer or faster than you otherwise would, the offer doesn’t suit you, and turning it down is perfectly reasonable. Our pages on how long a bonus should last and when to say no to a bonus help you decide.
Does the validity period apply to my own deposit?
No. Your deposit balance is your money, and Gambling Commission guidance says you must be able to withdraw it at any time, including while a bonus is active. Validity periods and wagering deadlines apply to the bonus balance and bonus winnings only. Withdrawing may cancel the bonus, which is a separate matter set out in the offer terms. If an operator suggests your own cash is locked by a bonus deadline, ask for an explanation in writing. Our pages on withdrawing your deposit with a bonus active and bonus withdrawal rules explain the protections.
How can I keep track of several validity periods?
The simplest method is a short note of each reward, the date it was credited and the date it ends. Ladbrokes’ offer can have several batches live at once, each with its own 7-day period, so a list or calendar reminder stops spins lapsing by accident. Most casinos also show expiry dates in the bonus or rewards area of the account. Keeping records is useful for complaints too. Our guide on how to keep records of bonuses and the bonus calendar offer simple templates.
