Which games are excluded from bonuses? At most UK casinos, bonus play is limited to slots, and table games, live casino, progressive jackpots and some individual slots are either excluded or count only partly towards wagering. Free spins are usually tied to named games. The exact list sits in each offer's terms, and here's how to read it.
Slots are the default bonus game; table games, live casino and jackpot slots are the most common exclusions.
'Excluded' (can't be played with the bonus) is different from 'reduced contribution' (counts partly towards wagering).
Coral and Ladbrokes spins run on selected games listed in the offer; PlayOJO's run on Big Bass Bonanza; 10bet's wagering counts on slots.
Commission guidance says banned play must be set out clearly in advance, not decided after the event.
Playing an excluded game with bonus funds can void the bonus and its winnings.

Which games are excluded from bonuses at UK casinos?
There's no single UK-wide list. Each casino writes its own exclusions into the bonus terms, and they vary by offer. Still, the same categories turn up again and again, because casinos exclude the games where a bonus would cost them most or where results swing furthest.
Game types and how bonus terms commonly treat them
Game type
Common treatment
Main reason
Video slots
Usually eligible; the main bonus game
Higher house edge, so bonus play costs the casino less
Specific high-RTP slots
Sometimes excluded by name
A smaller house edge makes wagering cheaper to complete
Progressive jackpot slots
Often excluded
A share of each stake feeds the jackpot pool
Blackjack, roulette, baccarat
Often excluded or reduced contribution
Low house edge, especially with careful play
Live casino
Often excluded
Same low-edge games, plus higher table minimums
Video poker
Often excluded or reduced
Low house edge
Bingo, sports, poker
Outside a casino offer
Since 19 January 2026 one incentive can't mix product types
Read this as a pattern, not a rule for any one casino. The only list that counts is in the terms of the offer you accept. Our guide to game weighting covers how partial contribution works, and the question why are some games excluded from bonuses goes deeper into the reasons.
Excluded, reduced or selected: three different restrictions
Bonus terms use three kinds of game restriction, and mixing them up is a common reason bonuses go wrong.
Excluded games
You can't play these with bonus funds at all, or the bets don't count and may breach the terms. Placing a bonus-funded bet on an excluded table game can lead to the bonus being removed.
Reduced contribution
The game can be played, but only part of each bet counts towards wagering. As an illustration, if a game counted at 10%, a £10 bet would add £1 to your progress, so clearing £100 of wagering would need £1,000 of bets on that game. The terms set the actual contribution percentage.
Selected games
Free spins are credited to specific titles. The glossary entry on selected games explains how these lists work. You can't move spins to another slot, though once spin winnings are cash you can play whatever you like with them.
Excluded games in our partners' offers
Here's what each partner's welcome terms say about games, as checked on 5 October 2026. Where the terms point to a list, we don't guess what's on it.
It comes down to the cost of wagering. On a slot with a 96% RTP, £250 of wagering costs about £10 on average. On a table game with a much smaller house edge, the same £250 costs far less, so the bonus would be close to pure cost for the casino. Jackpot slots are excluded for a different reason: part of every stake funds a prize pool, and one bonus-funded spin could win it. The comparison bonus on slots vs table games shows the gap in pounds.
None of this means slots are a better bet. A higher house edge means slots cost more per pound staked over time; the exclusion simply protects the casino's side of the offer.
UK rules on excluded games in bonus terms
Exclusions are allowed, but they must be fair and visible. The Gambling Commission's guidance on promotional play restrictions (opens in a new tab) says terms must clearly specify all prohibited play, operators must not ban play that wasn't set out in advance, and they must not keep sole discretion over what counts as a breach. Its transparency guidance (opens in a new tab) requires significant terms to appear with the headline offer, with full terms one click away.
Feature buys aren't offered on slots at UK-licensed casinos, so you won't see bonus terms excluding them here. The mixed-product ban from 19 January 2026 means a casino bonus can't be used on sports betting or bingo either.
How to find which games are excluded from your bonus
Open the offer's full terms from the promotion page, not just the summary box.
Search the page for 'excluded', 'eligible', 'contribution' and 'selected games'.
For free spins, note the named game or list; for a cash bonus, note both excluded games and any reduced contribution rates.
Check whether any games are barred by provider, which the glossary calls a game provider restriction.
If a game isn't mentioned and you're unsure, ask live chat before playing it with bonus funds, and save the answer.
Megaways and high-volatility slots: usually allowed, but check the list for named exclusions.
What happens if you play an excluded game
It depends on how the terms are written. In some casinos the game is simply blocked while a bonus is active. In others the bet goes through but doesn't count towards wagering. In stricter terms it's treated as a breach, and the bonus and any winnings from it can be removed. Your own deposit balance isn't at risk from this rule. If a casino voids winnings for this reason, it should explain which term applied; our page on what happens if I break bonus terms covers your options.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a casino bonus on live casino games?
Usually not for welcome bonuses. Live dealer games are mostly blackjack, roulette and baccarat, which have a low house edge, so casinos commonly exclude them or give them a reduced contribution towards wagering. 10bet's welcome wagering, for example, counts on slots only. Some casinos run separate live casino promotions with their own terms. Check the eligible-games section of your offer. Our page does live casino count towards wagering explains more.
Why are some slots excluded from bonuses?
Individual slots are usually excluded because they have a higher RTP than average, which makes clearing wagering cheaper, or because they're progressive jackpot games where part of each stake funds a prize pool. A few may be excluded for supplier reasons. The terms should name them; the Commission says banned play must be set out in advance. Check the list before choosing a game. See the game provider restriction glossary entry for provider-wide exclusions.
Do table games count towards wagering?
Sometimes, but often at a reduced rate or not at all. When a game counts partly, only that percentage of each bet moves your wagering forward; at an illustrative 10%, a £20 blackjack hand adds £2. Some terms block table games completely while a bonus is active. The contribution table in the full terms gives the exact rates. Our answer to do table games count towards wagering explains the maths in more detail.
Which games can I play with Coral's free spins?
Coral's 100 free spins are for selected games listed in the offer, so check the promotion page for the current titles; we don't assume which slots are included. The spins are worth 10p each, must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days, and winnings carry no wagering. The qualifying £10 bet has to be placed on slots. 18+, terms apply. See Coral eligible games for more.
Are jackpot slots excluded from free spins?
Often, yes. Progressive jackpots take a slice of every stake to build the prize, and casinos generally don't want bonus-funded spins competing for it. Many offers either exclude jackpot titles or credit spins only to non-jackpot slots. If a jackpot game does appear on an eligible list, the terms will say whether a jackpot win from free spins is paid in full. See free spins on jackpot slots for the details.
What happens if I accidentally play an excluded game?
It depends on the terms. Some casinos block excluded games while a bonus is active, so nothing happens. Others let the bet through but don't count it towards wagering. Stricter terms treat it as a breach, which can void the bonus and winnings from it. Contact support straight away and explain; honesty helps. Your own deposit balance stays yours either way. See what happens if I break bonus terms.
Can I use bonus money on sports or bingo?
Not with a casino bonus. Since 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission has banned incentives that mix gambling products, so a casino welcome offer can't be spent on sports betting, bingo or lottery, and a sports offer can't hand out casino spins. Operators with several products now ask you to choose; 10bet, for instance, has you pick the casino welcome bonus at sign-up. Our page on the mixed-product promotion ban covers the rule.
Does PlayOJO restrict which games its free spins are on?
Yes. PlayOJO's 80 welcome spins are on Big Bass Bonanza only, at 10p each. The game has a published RTP of 96.71%, high volatility and a 2,100x max win. Winnings are paid in cash with no wagering, so after the spins you can use that money on any game. The offer needs a first deposit of £10 or more and excludes Northern Ireland. 18+, terms apply. See PlayOJO eligible games.
Are game exclusions in bonus terms legal?
Yes, if they're fair and transparent. Gambling Commission guidance says prohibited play must be clearly specified in advance, significant terms must sit with the headline offer, and operators can't reserve sole discretion over breaches. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, an unfair term isn't binding on you, and an ambiguous term is read in your favour. If an exclusion was hidden or unclear, you can complain. See bonus terms must be clear.
