No, you can’t play a casino’s free spins offer in demo mode: offer spins are credited to your real-money account and only work when the slot is in real play. What you can do in a demo is trigger the slot’s own free spins round, which helps you learn the game first. UK casinos must verify your age before letting you open any demo.
Promotional free spins have a cash value and only load in real-money mode on the eligible slot.
Demo mode uses play credits, so it can’t meet a qualifying bet, earn offer spins or pay real winnings.
A demo can trigger the slot’s free spins feature, and UK rules say it must follow the same game rules as the real version.
Age verification has been required before demo play in Great Britain since 7 May 2019.

Can I play free spins in demo mode? Two different answers
The phrase covers two separate things, and the answer differs for each. Promotional spins, such as 100 spins at 10p after a qualifying bet, are a casino incentive with real money behind them. They are attached to your account and appear only when you open the eligible slot in real-money mode. A demo is a separate version of the game that runs on play credits and has no connection to your cashier, your bonus balance or the promotion.
The slot’s own bonus feature is different. If a game awards ten feature spins for three scatter symbols, that can happen in demo just as it can in real play, because the demo runs the same game. So you can see the feature, but you can’t use a casino’s offer through it. Our companion answer, are free spins the same as demo play, compares the two in detail.

Why offer free spins only work in real-money mode
Each promotional spin has a set value that the casino pays for, and any win it produces is credited to your account as cash or bonus funds. That only makes sense in the real game, where the result is logged against your balance. A demo has no balance to pay into, so there is nothing for the promotion to attach to.
Qualifying conditions work the same way. Coral’s welcome offer needs a deposit and a £10 bet on slots before the spins arrive, and Ladbrokes needs £10 of slots play. A qualifying bet means a real stake from your own balance; spins placed with demo credits don’t count, however many you play. The same goes for wagering requirements on bonuses that have them.
If a site offers ‘free spins’ that turn out to be a demo with no prize, that is not a promotion at all. A real offer states its stake, its eligible games and how winnings are paid.
The reasoning is straightforward: demo slots look and sound exactly like the real thing, and the Commission did not want under-18s practising on them. In practice, you sign up, pass the KYC checks (name, address and date of birth, checked against databases and sometimes documents), and only then see the demo option where a casino provides one. Some UK casinos simply don’t offer demos. Our pages on age verification before play and verifying before a bonus explain the checks.
Is the demo version the same game as real play?
It should be. The Commission’s standard RTS 6 on play-for-free games (opens in a new tab) says a free version on a casino’s site must use the same game rules as the real-money version and must accurately represent the likelihood of winning and the prize distribution. A demo is not allowed to hand out features more often to make the game look generous.
The same standard notes one exception to watch: where a supplier’s own website shows a game with higher than normal returns to show off its features, it should make clear that it is a special demonstration. Treat feature-packed showreels and promotional videos as adverts, not as a guide to how often a bonus round lands.
How to use demo mode before your real free spins
A demo is most useful as a rehearsal for the game your offer spins are on. It costs nothing in cash, though it still costs time, and it can help you understand what you are about to play.
Find out which slot the offer spins are for from the promotion page or the rewards area.
Log in to your verified account and open that slot in demo or play-for-fun mode, if the casino offers it.
Open the help screen and note the RTP, the paytable and what triggers the free spins round.
Set the demo stake to the offer’s spin value, usually 10p, so wins look the size they would really be.
Play a set number of demo spins and stop; don’t use the demo to practise ways to stake more.
Close the demo, switch to real-money mode and use the offer spins on the same slot.
What a demo can’t tell you about your free spins
A few dozen demo spins show you how the game behaves, not how your real spins will turn out. Results are random, and a short sample swings widely. One run of 100 demo spins at 10p might return £3 of credits and another £30, on a game whose long-run return is about £9.60 per £10 staked. Neither run predicts the next one.
That gap between short-run luck and long-run averages is what volatility describes, and the long-run average is the RTP. Both are the same in demo and real play. If a demo goes well, it doesn’t mean the real spins will; if it goes badly, the real spins aren’t due a win either.
Matching the demo stake to your free spins value
Offer spins have a fixed coin value, and every win scales with it. A slot that pays 50 times the stake for a line of top symbols pays very different amounts depending on the stake, as the table shows. Real-money slots in Great Britain are also capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds, under the online slot stake limits.
Demo practice is most useful on high-volatility games, where the free spins round is rare and does most of the paying. These figures come from published game specifications; check the help screen for the version your casino runs, as some games are supplied at more than one RTP.

PlayOJO’s welcome spins are on Big Bass Bonanza, so its demo is the obvious one to try first; our Big Bass Bonanza free spins page covers the game. For comparison, read our pages on Book of Dead free spins and Starburst free spins. The maximum win is a ceiling reached very rarely, not a likely result.
Real-money free spins offers to use after a demo
Once you know the game, the partner offers below run in real-money mode only. All are 18+ and terms apply. PlayOJO’s spins give new UK customers outside Northern Ireland 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each with a first deposit of £10 or more, no wagering and winnings in cash; the offer can’t be combined with others and must be claimed through the designated link. Coral’s spins give 100 free spins at 10p on selected games after a deposit and a £10 slots bet, accepted within 48 hours, valid 7 days, with no wagering on winnings; Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don’t qualify.
Ladbrokes’ spins give up to 500 free spins (50 a day for 10 days) at 10p on selected games after you deposit and spend £10 on slots, claimed by 23:59 each day, valid 7 days and wager-free; prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits are excluded. PlayOJO is the only one with a named game you can rehearse in advance; for Coral and Ladbrokes, check the promotion page for the current list. A demo makes the game familiar, but the real £10 you stake to qualify still carries the house edge. See more answers on our questions hub.
Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open a new account with another; check the terms before signing up.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a casino’s free spins offer in play-for-fun mode?
No, a casino’s free spins offer cannot be used in play-for-fun mode. Offer spins are credited to your real-money account and only load when you open the eligible slot for real play; the demo version has no link to your balance or promotions. You can still try the same slot in demo first to learn the rules. Our explainer on how free spins work covers how offer spins are credited and used.
Can I trigger the bonus round in demo mode?
Yes, the slot’s own free spins round can trigger in demo mode, because a demo on a UK casino site must use the same game rules as the real version. It lands at the same rate as in real play, so on a high-volatility game you may play a long time without seeing it. Demo credits won from the round have no cash value. Our answer on whether free spins can trigger the bonus round explains how features work during offer spins too.
Why do I have to verify my age to play a demo?
Because Gambling Commission rules have required it since 7 May 2019. Licensed casinos must check that you are 18 or over before you can access free-to-play versions of their gambling games, as the games look identical to real-money play and the rules aim to keep under-18s away from them. Identity must also be confirmed before any deposit or bet. See age verification before play for what the checks involve.
Do demo spins count towards a qualifying bet?
No, demo spins never count towards a qualifying bet. Offers like Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ need £10 of real slots stakes from your balance before spins are credited, and play credits in a demo don’t move that total at all. The same applies to wagering requirements on any bonus. If you want to reach a qualifying bet, it has to be real money you are comfortable spending. Read what a qualifying bet is for the detail.
Are demo slots more generous than real ones?
They shouldn’t be on a UK casino’s own site. The Commission’s RTS 6 standard says play-for-free games must accurately represent the likelihood of winning and the prize distribution of the real game, so features and wins should come at the same rate. Videos and supplier showcases can be edited or set up to show features, and should say so. If a demo felt generous, that was short-term luck. Our page on RTP explains the long-run figure.
Can I win real money from demo free spins?
No, nothing won in a demo can be withdrawn or converted into cash. Demo credits exist only inside the play-for-fun game and reset when you leave or reload it. Real winnings come only from real-money play, including promotional spins, which on no wagering offers pay cash straight to your balance. If a site promises real prizes from a ‘demo’, read its terms carefully. Our guide to free spins keep what you win explains how cash winnings from real offer spins work.
Is there a demo version of Big Bass Bonanza?
Many casinos and game libraries offer a demo of Big Bass Bonanza, but whether yours does depends on the casino, and UK sites will verify you first. It is worth trying because PlayOJO’s welcome spins are on this game. Its published figures are a 96.71% RTP, high volatility and a 2,100x maximum win, which is £210 on a 10p spin. Our Big Bass Bonanza free spins page goes through the game and offer values.
Should I practise in demo mode before using free spins?
It can help, as long as you treat it as learning the game rather than finding a system. A short demo shows you the paytable, how the feature triggers and how often small wins land, which makes real spins less confusing. It cannot reveal a pattern, because results are random, and it should not become a reason to play for longer than you planned. Set limits before real play. Our responsible gambling page lists tools and free support.
Can I get free spins without depositing instead of using a demo?
None of our partner casinos currently offers a no-deposit spins deal; all three need a deposit, and Coral and Ladbrokes also need £10 of slots play. No-deposit offers do appear at other UK-licensed casinos, but they are small, often capped and still require full verification. A demo remains the no-cost way to see a game. Read free spins no deposit for how such offers work and what to check.
