What stake are free spins played at?

What stake are free spins played at? At a fixed amount set by the offer, most often 10p per spin, and you can’t change it. All three of our partners’ welcome spins are 10p each. That stake decides what the spins are worth (100 × 10p = £10) and the most a single spin can pay, so it’s the first figure to read in any free spins offer.

Key takeaways

  • Casino free spins are played at a fixed stake chosen by the casino; the bet buttons are locked while they run.
  • Coral’s, Ladbrokes’ and PlayOJO’s welcome spins are all 10p each, so value = number of spins × 10p.
  • The stake caps the top prize: on a slot with a 2,100x max win, a 10p spin can pay at most £210.
  • UK stake limits of £5 (25+) and £2 (18–24) per spin apply to all online slots; 10p free spins sit well below both.

What stake are free spins played at? The quick answer

Free spins are played at whatever stake the offer sets, and that stake is fixed for every spin in the batch. In the UK the most common figure is 10p, and it’s the figure for all three of our partners’ spins offers: Coral’s 100 spins, Ladbrokes’ up to 500 and PlayOJO’s 80 are all 10p each under their offer terms. When the spins load, the game’s bet controls are locked at that amount.

The stake matters because it sets both the value of the offer and the size of any win. One hundred 10p spins are £10 of play; one hundred £1 spins would be £100. A spin count on its own tells you very little, which is why offers have to state the spin value as a significant term. For other short answers, see our casino bonus questions.

Free spin stakes at our partner casinos

Here’s what each partner’s spins are played at, and what that makes them worth in total. The figures are taken from the offer terms, last checked on 5 October 2026.

Because the stake is identical, comparing these offers is a matter of spin counts and conditions. Our pages on 100 free spins, 80 free spins and 500 free spins cover each in turn.

Total stake, coin value and paylines: reading the bet display

Slots show the stake in different ways, which can make a 10p spin look like something else. The figure that matters is the total stake per spin, the amount one spin costs. Some games also show a coin value or a stake per line, which are parts of that total.

  • Total stake (bet): what one spin costs. For partner free spins, 10p.
  • Stake per line: the total divided across paylines. A 10-payline slot such as Big Bass Bonanza at 10p total is 1p per line.
  • Coin value and coins: some games express the bet as a number of coins of a set value; coins × coin value = total stake.
  • Credits: a few games show a balance in credits rather than pounds; the help screen gives the conversion.

Wins in a game’s paytable are usually shown as multiples of the total stake, or in pounds at your current bet. If a paytable says a symbol pays 20x, a 10p spin landing it pays £2.

How the stake sets the value of free spins

The value of a batch of spins is spins × stake. Multiply that by the game’s RTP and you have the long-run average return. Using 96% for illustration, here is how stake and count combine. Any single batch can land well above or below the average.

Free spins value by stake and number of spins (96% RTP for illustration)
Stake per spin50 spins: value / average return100 spins: value / average return500 spins: value / average return
10p£5 / about £4.80£10 / about £9.60£50 / about £48
20p£10 / about £9.60£20 / about £19.20£100 / about £96
50p£25 / about £24£50 / about £48£250 / about £240
£1£50 / about £48£100 / about £96£500 / about £480

Notice that 50 spins at 20p and 100 spins at 10p have the same value. Count alone is misleading; value is the number to compare. Our free spins value guide and the free spins maths page take this further, including the effect of wagering where it applies.

Free spin stake and the biggest possible win

A slot’s maximum win is a multiple of the stake, so the stake caps what a free spin can pay. These illustrations use published maximums for four slots; they don’t mean a partner offers spins on these games, apart from PlayOJO’s spins on Big Bass Bonanza.

Maximum possible win from a single spin by stake

Book of Dead5,000x£500£1,000£5,000
Sweet Bonanza21,100x£2,110£4,220£21,100

Top wins are extremely rare, and most spins return less than the stake or nothing. Some offers also cap what free spins can pay out in total, separate from the game’s own maximum; see free spins max win. For realistic outcomes at 10p, read how much you can win from 10p free spins.

Why most UK free spins are 10p

Casinos choose a low stake so they can offer a larger number of spins for the same cost. A hundred spins sounds more appealing than ten, even though 100 × 10p and 10 × £1 are both £10. The low stake also keeps the cost of any big win in proportion, and 10p is a stake almost every slot accepts as its minimum or close to it.

Higher-stake spins exist, and they are often marketed under names like super spins or mega spins. They aren’t better or worse by nature: 20 spins at 50p have the same value as 100 at 10p. The difference is spread, as fewer, bigger spins make results swing more.

How to check the stake on your free spins

You can confirm the stake in a minute, both before you claim and while you play.

  1. Read the offer’s significant terms: the spin value should be stated next to the headline, such as 100 free spins at 10p each.
  2. After claiming, open the bonus area; spins are often listed with their value.
  3. Launch the eligible game from the bonus area and look at the bet display; it should show the spin value and be locked.
  4. Check the counter that shows how many free spins remain.
  5. If the stake shown differs from the terms, stop and contact support with a screenshot before playing on.

Free spin stake versus the qualifying bet

Two different stakes appear in spins offers, and they’re easy to confuse. The free spin stake is the value of each spin you receive. The qualifying bet is the cash you stake first to earn them. Coral’s offer needs £10 or more bet on slots, and Ladbrokes’ needs £10 or more spent on slots; the 10p figure applies only to the spins that follow.

How you reach the £10 is up to you within the terms and the law: 100 spins at 10p or 10 spins at £1 both reach £10 of slots stakes. Your qualifying bets are real-money spins, so they carry the house edge too; at 4%, £10 of slot play costs about 40p on average. The terms of each offer say exactly which slots and stakes count.

Free spin stake versus a bonus money max bet

Deposit match bonuses don’t have a spin stake at all. Instead, they set a ceiling on how much you can bet while bonus funds are active. Casumo’s terms cap bets at £5 while a bonus is active; breaking a max bet rule can put bonus winnings at risk. Within that ceiling you choose your own stake, which changes how quickly wagering is done and how much variance you face.

For a £100 Casumo bonus, the 10x target is £1,000 of qualifying wagering: 10,000 spins at 10p, or 1,000 at £1. The average cost at a 4% house edge is about £40 either way; the stake changes the swings, not the average. See Casumo’s max bet rule for the wording.

UK stake limits and free spins

Since 9 April 2025, online slots in Great Britain have had a maximum stake of £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, and since 21 May 2025 a maximum of £2 for players aged 18 to 24. The Gambling Commission’s stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) sets out how operators apply them, and the government’s announcement of the £2 limit for under-25s (opens in a new tab) explains why. Our page on online slot stake limits has the timeline.

Free spins at 10p are far below both limits, so the limits rarely affect them. They matter more for the qualifying bet and for bonus money play, where a bonus max bet sits on top of the legal cap. An 18 to 24-year-old can still claim spins offers; see can under-25s claim bonuses?.

Partner free spins and their stakes

All three offers use 10p spins. They’re for UK adults aged 18+, and full terms apply.

  • Coral: deposit (certain types excluded) and bet £10 or more on slots to get 100 free spins at 10p, a £10 total, on selected games. Accept within 48 hours, use within 7 days; no wagering on winnings. Runs 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027.
  • Ladbrokes: deposit and spend £10 or more on slots to get 50 free spins a day for the first 10 days at 10p, up to 500 spins or £50 in total, on selected games. Claim before 23:59 each day; valid 7 days; no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers don’t qualify.
  • PlayOJO: a first deposit of £10 or more via the designated offer link brings 80 spins at 10p, £8 in total, on Big Bass Bonanza, with winnings paid in cash and no wagering. New UK customers excluding Northern Ireland; can’t be combined with other offers.

With identical stakes, the choice comes down to spin count, timing and which conditions suit you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the stake on my free spins?

No. The stake is fixed by the offer, and the game locks the bet controls while the spins run. If you find you can change the bet, the game has probably opened with your cash balance instead of the spins; close it and relaunch from the bonus area. Coral’s, Ladbrokes’ and PlayOJO’s spins are all 10p. The page on whether you can change your bonus covers the other parts of an offer that stay fixed once claimed.

Is a 10p free spin the same as a 10p real-money spin?

In the game, yes: the reels, odds and paytable are the same, and wins are calculated on the 10p stake. The difference is who funds it and what happens to winnings. With no-wagering spins like our partners’, winnings go to your cash balance; with wagering spins, they become bonus funds until the target is met. Our free spins winnings entry explains how those winnings are treated in each case.

How much are 100 free spins at 10p worth?

£10 of spins. That is the stake value; the average return is lower because of the house edge. At 96% RTP, 100 spins at 10p return about £9.60 on average, though a single batch can return far less or occasionally much more. Coral’s 100 spins are 10p each, so this is the figure for that offer. Our answer on the average win from 100 free spins shows the full range of likely outcomes.

Why are free spins only 10p?

A low stake lets a casino offer more spins for the same cost, and many slots accept 10p as their minimum bet or close to it. It also keeps the cost of big wins in proportion, because a slot’s maximum win is a multiple of the stake. Ten £1 spins and one hundred 10p spins have the same £10 value. Our guide on free spins maths shows how stake and count trade off against each other.

What is the most I can win from a 10p free spin?

The slot’s maximum multiplier times 10p, subject to any cap in the offer terms. On Big Bass Bonanza, with a published maximum of 2,100x, that is £210; on a 5,000x slot, £500. Wins near the top are very rare, and most spins pay less than the stake. Check the game’s help screen for its maximum, and the offer for any cap. Our page on how much you can win from 10p free spins gives realistic figures.

Does the free spin stake count towards the £5 or £2 limit?

Yes, the legal limits apply to every online slot spin, but a 10p spin is far below both. The £5 limit for players aged 25+ came in on 9 April 2025 and the £2 limit for 18 to 24-year-olds on 21 May 2025. In practice the limits matter for the qualifying bet and for bonus money play, where you choose the stake. See online slot stake limits for the full rule and how operators check your age.

Are 50p free spins better than 10p free spins?

Each spin is worth five times as much, so a batch of 50p spins has more value than the same number at 10p. But compare like with like: 20 spins at 50p and 100 spins at 10p are both £10 of spins with the same average return. Bigger stakes mean fewer spins and bigger swings. Our free spins value guide shows how to compare offers with different stakes and spin counts.

Is the qualifying bet also played at 10p?

Not necessarily. The qualifying bet is your own cash stake, and you choose how to make it within the terms and the stake limits. Coral needs £10 or more bet on slots and Ladbrokes £10 or more spent on slots; that could be 100 spins at 10p or 10 at £1. Check the terms for any minimum stake per spin or game restrictions. Our answer on what a qualifying bet is covers the details.

What stake do bonus funds use?

Bonus funds don’t have a set stake; you choose it, up to the offer’s maximum bet. Casumo caps bets at £5 while a bonus is active, which matches the legal limit for players aged 25+; for 18 to 24s, the £2 legal limit applies first. Staying under the max bet matters, because breaking it can cost bonus winnings. Our page on the casino bonus max bet explains how the rule is applied and enforced.

Where do I find the stake for my free spins?

In the offer terms first: the spin value should appear next to the headline, such as 80 spins at 10p. Once claimed, it often shows in your bonus area, and when you launch the game from there, the bet display shows the locked stake. If these don’t match, contact support before playing. The guide on free spins terms line by line shows where the stake clause sits in a typical offer.
