Free spins max win can mean two different limits: the highest multiple the slot itself can pay, and a cap the offer puts on what spin winnings can turn into. On a 10p spin a 2,100x slot tops out at £210 by its own maths; an offer cap of, say, £100 would cut that further. Here is how both work and how to spot them in the terms.
A slot's max win is a multiple of the stake: 10p × 5,000x = £500 at most per spin.
An offer can add its own cap on spin winnings, which must be clear in the significant terms.
Caps reduce the average value only slightly but remove the rare large results.
The key terms we checked for our partners' spin offers list no cap; 10bet's match bonus caps bonus winnings at £1,000.

Free spins max win: two limits that are easy to mix up
When people ask about free spins max win, they usually mean one of two things. The first is the slot's maximum win: the largest payout the game can produce on one spin or feature, written as a multiple of the stake, such as 5,000x. It comes from the game's design and applies to every spin, paid or promotional. The second is an offer cap: a limit the casino puts on how much spin winnings can be worth, often called a max cashout or maximum conversion.
The two stack. Your spin can never pay more than the slot allows, and whatever it pays can then be trimmed by the offer cap. For the general idea of caps across all bonus types, read our guide to casino bonus max win; this page focuses on spins. For every spin offer type, start at the free spins hub.
What a 10p free spin can pay on popular slots
Because UK spin offers usually set each spin at 10p, the slot's ceiling in pounds is simply 10p × the max win multiple. These figures come from the developers' published specifications.

These are theoretical ceilings. Most spins pay nothing or a small multiple, and a run of 100 promotional spins reaching a game's top prize is extremely unlikely. The ceiling still matters, though, because it shows whether an offer cap could ever come into play. On Starburst a £50 cap would never bite on 10p spins; on Sweet Bonanza it could. PlayOJO's welcome spins are on Big Bass Bonanza, where the 2,100x top multiple puts the ceiling at £210 per 10p spin.
How free spins win caps are written
Caps on spin winnings appear in a few common forms. You may see one or more of these in a single set of terms:
A fixed amount: 'maximum winnings from free spins £100'.
A multiple of the spin value or bonus: 'winnings capped at 5x the bonus amount'.
A conversion cap: 'the maximum that can be converted from bonus funds to cash is £250', applied after wagering.
A cap on bonus winnings for a match offer: such as 10bet's £1,000 maximum bonus winnings on its 100% welcome match.
Any of these is a significant condition. The Gambling Commission's guidance on promotional play restrictions (opens in a new tab) also says that where winnings are lost, the customer must be given a full explanation. Our entry on bonus caps explains how the related limit on the bonus amount itself differs from a cap on winnings.

Most results look like the first row. The cap only matters in the rare third case, but there it matters a lot. If the same offer also paid winnings as bonus funds with 10x wagering, the order of operations matters too: some terms apply the cap before wagering, others to the amount converted afterwards. In the second case you would wager up to £1,000 of the capped £100 rather than £2,400 of the uncapped £240. The wagering requirements guide shows how the 10x cap interacts with these sums.
How much a win cap reduces free spins value
Because big wins are rare, a cap trims the average only a little. On a 96% RTP slot, £10 of spins returns about £9.60 on average; most of that average comes from frequent small and medium wins, so a cap set well above the face value might shave only pennies off it. What it does change is the shape: the chance of a large result is removed.
So the right question isn't 'how much does the cap cost me on average?' but 'would I mind if the one big result I was hoping for got cut?' If the answer is yes, prefer uncapped offers. Our guide to free spins value shows the full expected-value calculation, and what is a fair max cashout? discusses where a cap stops feeling reasonable.
Max win on our partners' free spins and bonuses
We checked the key terms of all five partner offers on 5 October 2026. In the key terms for PlayOJO's 80 spins, Coral's 100 spins and Ladbrokes' up to 500 spins, no cap on spin winnings is listed, and all three pay winnings with no wagering. That doesn't rule out a clause in the full terms, so read them before opting in. The slot's own ceiling still applies: on 10p spins that depends on the game, and Coral and Ladbrokes list their selected games on the promotion page.
The only partner cap in the key terms is on a match bonus, not spins: 10bet's 100% up to £25 offer limits bonus winnings to £1,000, with 10x wagering on slots within 3 days. Casumo's 50% up to £100 match carries a £5 max bet while the bonus is active, which is a different limit; see casino bonus max bet. Partner detail sits on the 10bet casino bonus and PlayOJO free spins winnings pages.
UK rules on free spins max win caps
No UK rule sets a maximum or minimum for free spins win caps, and the Commission's guidance on maximum withdrawal limits deals with your deposit balance, not caps on bonus winnings. Caps are judged instead under general fairness and transparency rules:
Since 19 January 2026 wagering is also capped at 10x, which limits how much play a capped bonus can demand. Our page on bonus terms that must be clear has more.
Free spins on jackpot slots and max win
Progressive jackpot slots work differently. Their top prize isn't a fixed multiple, so 'max win' is replaced by the current jackpot. Many spin offers exclude jackpot games entirely, and where they don't, the terms may say whether a jackpot won from promotional spins is paid in full or limited. Mega Moolah, for example, lists a base-game RTP of 88.12% that excludes the jackpot contribution, which is well below most non-jackpot slots. Our answer to what happens if free spins hit a jackpot? and the page on free spins on jackpot slots explain the usual terms.
How to find the max win in free spins terms
Open the offer's significant terms from the promotion page, not just the advert.
Search the terms for 'maximum', 'cap', 'convert' and 'winnings'.
Note whether the cap is a fixed amount or a multiple, and whether it applies before or after wagering.
Open the named slot's help screen and note its max win multiple and RTP.
Multiply the multiple by the spin value to see the game's own ceiling per spin.
If the terms are unclear, ask support in writing and keep the reply.
If a cap you weren't told about is applied to your winnings, complain to the casino first, then to its ADR provider. Our answer to how do I report an unfair bonus? sets out the route.
Is a capped free spins offer worth taking?
Advantages
A generous cap rarely changes the average result
Caps are often paired with simpler, smaller offers
The rule must be stated clearly, so you can judge it in advance
Drawbacks
Removes the rare large result that many players hope for
Can be confusing when combined with wagering
Low caps on higher-value spins bite more often
Either way, a max win figure is a ceiling, not a target. Spins are entertainment with a cost, losses are the likely result over time, and no cap or lack of one changes the house edge. If you want to step back, our safer gambling page has free support options.

Frequently asked questions
What is the max win on free spins?
The max win on free spins is the lower of two limits: the slot's own top multiple × the spin value, and any cap the offer places on spin winnings. On a 10p spin, a 5,000x slot can pay at most £500 per spin by its own design. If the offer caps winnings at £100, that is the most you can keep. Both should be visible before you play. Our free spins hub compares offers, and 18+ and terms apply to each.
Do all free spins have a max win cap?
No, not all free spins offers have a cap on winnings; it depends on the terms. PlayOJO, Coral and Ladbrokes show none in the key terms we checked, though the full terms should always be read. Every slot still has its own maximum payout. Where an offer does cap winnings, it is a significant condition and must be stated clearly. Our page on no max win bonuses looks at uncapped offers in more detail.
How much can you win from 10p free spins?
From a single 10p free spin, you can win up to 10p × the slot's max win multiple, so £50 on a 500x game and £500 on a 5,000x game. Across 100 spins the average return at 96% RTP is about £9.60, and most batches finish somewhere near or below that. Any cap in the offer limits the top end further. The how much can you win from 10p free spins? answer shows more worked results.
Is a max win cap on free spins legal?
Yes, a max win cap on free spins is legal in the UK if it is fair and clearly disclosed. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 makes unfair terms unenforceable, and Gambling Commission licence conditions require terms to be fair and transparent, with significant conditions shown with the offer. A cap hidden in general terms, or applied without explanation, could be challenged. Read are bonus terms legally binding? for how fairness is judged.
What happens to winnings above the free spins cap?
Winnings above a free spins cap are removed from your balance, usually when the spins end or when bonus funds are converted to cash. Only the capped amount stays. The terms should say exactly when the cap is applied, and if winnings are removed the operator must explain why. Keep a screenshot of your balance if you think a cap was applied wrongly. Read can a casino void my winnings? for your options.
Is a max win cap the same as max cashout?
A max win cap and a max cashout are closely related and often used for the same limit: the most that bonus or spin winnings can turn into withdrawable cash. Some terms apply the cap to winnings straight away, others to the amount converted after wagering. Neither limits withdrawals from your own deposit balance, which UK rules protect. Our glossary entry on max cashout explains the wording you are likely to see.
Does a win cap make free spins worthless?
No, a win cap doesn't make free spins worthless, because most of their average value comes from small and medium wins below the cap. On £10 of 10p spins, a cap well above £10 may cut the expected value by only pennies. It does remove the chance of a large result. Decide whether that matters to you before opting in. Our guide on free spins value shows the full calculation with and without caps.
Do no-wagering free spins have a max win?
No-wagering free spins can still have a max win, either from the slot's top multiple or from a cap in the offer terms. No wagering only means winnings are paid as cash without extra play. The key terms we checked for our three partner spin offers show no cap, but each slot's own ceiling applies. Read the significant terms for any limit. The free spins no wagering page compares offers on this point.
Can free spins win a jackpot?
Free spins can win a jackpot only if the offer lets them be used on a jackpot slot and the terms allow jackpot wins from promotional spins. Many offers exclude jackpot games, and some cap or exclude jackpot payouts. Spins tied to one named non-jackpot slot can't win a progressive jackpot at all. Check the game list and the terms before playing. The page on free spins on jackpot slots explains how these terms usually work.
How does 10bet's £1,000 max bonus winnings work?
10bet's welcome match limits what the bonus can win to £1,000. New UK customers who pick the casino welcome bonus and deposit within 7 days get a 100% match up to £25, which must be wagered 10x on slots within 3 days. Winnings from the bonus above £1,000 aren't paid. Skrill and Neteller deposits are excluded; 18+ and terms apply. See 10bet bonus wagering for the full worked example.
