Does a bonus affect withdrawals? Yes, but only for the bonus money and anything won with it: those stay locked until the wagering is done. Your own deposit balance is different. UK rules say you can withdraw it at any time, even mid-bonus, although doing so usually means giving up the bonus. No wagering spins avoid the issue, because their winnings are cash.
Your deposit balance can be withdrawn at any time, including while a bonus is active.
Bonus funds, and winnings made with them, become withdrawable only once the wagering is complete.
Withdrawing during a bonus normally cancels the remaining bonus; the terms say exactly what happens.
Payment method, verification and any max win clause can affect a withdrawal as much as the bonus itself.

Does a bonus affect withdrawals? What changes and what doesn’t
A bonus changes which parts of your account you can take out, not whether you can withdraw at all. Think of your account as two pots: the money you deposited (plus anything it wins) and the money the casino added as a bonus (plus anything that wins). The first pot is yours to withdraw whenever you like. The second becomes withdrawable only after its conditions are met.
This split is not a casino courtesy. It comes from the Competition and Markets Authority’s 2018 action on online gambling promotions and from Gambling Commission guidance that operators must follow. For the wider set of answers on this topic, see our casino bonus questions hub and the guide can you withdraw a casino bonus.

The guidance does not set an order in which deposit and bonus money must be used, so each casino’s terms decide whether your cash or bonus funds are staked first. That order changes what you can withdraw at a given moment; our guide to how bonus funds and cash are used explains the common set-ups. The bonus balance glossary entry covers the terminology.
What happens if you withdraw while a bonus is active
Many bonus terms say that withdrawing from your deposit balance before wagering is complete cancels the remaining bonus and any winnings it has produced. That is allowed, provided it is clearly stated: you keep the right to your own money, and the casino keeps the right to withdraw an offer you have chosen to leave.
Worked example with a 50% match
Casumo’s welcome offer is a 50% bonus up to £100 on a first deposit of at least £20, wagered 10x within 7 days, with a £5 maximum bet while the bonus is active (18+, opt-in, game, play and payment restrictions apply). Deposit £100 and you receive £50, so the wagering target is £500. Suppose you have staked £150 and your cash balance now stands at £82. You can withdraw that £82 at any time; under typical terms the £50 bonus, and anything won with it, would then be removed. Finish the £500 of wagering instead, and whatever remains of the bonus converts to cash.
No wagering free spins: winnings you can withdraw straight away
Spin offers without wagering sidestep most of this. Their winnings land as cash, so they behave like the rest of your deposit balance. Coral and Ladbrokes say there is no wagering on their welcome spin winnings, and PlayOJO says its spin winnings are paid in cash. Once any qualifying bet or deposit is done, there is no bonus pot holding anything back.
Say PlayOJO’s 80 spins at 10p (£8 of spins) return £7.74, the long-run average at Big Bass Bonanza’s published 96.71% RTP. That £7.74 is cash, available to withdraw alongside whatever is left of your £10 deposit. Real results vary a lot from one set of spins to the next. Read can you withdraw free spins winnings for more on how cash-paid spins work.
Maximum win caps and withdrawals
A max cashout or maximum win clause limits how much bonus-derived money can be withdrawn. 10bet’s match bonus, for example, caps bonus winnings at £1,000 (100% up to £25, 10x wagering on slots within 3 days, 18+, Skrill and Neteller deposits excluded). If bonus play grew to £1,400 and wagering was complete, the terms would allow £1,000 of bonus winnings to be withdrawn.
Withdrawals usually go back to the method you deposited with, a set-up known as a closed loop. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ help centres describe a closed-loop policy and add method-specific rules: a PayPal withdrawal needs a PayPal deposit in the last six months, and a paysafecard withdrawal needs an earlier paysafecard deposit. PlayOJO says withdrawals go back to the deposit method where possible.
This links back to the bonus because the welcome offers exclude some methods. PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, Neteller and prepaid cards don’t qualify at Coral or Ladbrokes, so a debit card or Pay by Bank deposit is the usual route for the offer, and the withdrawal then follows the same route. Our guide to how payment exclusions work explains the reasons behind these lists.
ID checks before you withdraw bonus winnings
UK casinos must verify your age and identity before you deposit or gamble, including with a bonus. The Commission’s guidance adds that a withdrawal request must not trigger requests for information that could reasonably have been asked for earlier, unless another legal duty requires it at that point, and that a casino cannot confiscate money because you didn’t verify within a time limit. Source-of-funds questions under anti-money laundering rules can still come up later.
Since 31 October 2021, licensed operators have not been allowed to offer you the option to cancel a withdrawal once requested and play the money instead. A pending withdrawal stays on its way out. That rule applies whether or not a bonus was involved, and it removes a temptation that used to catch people who had decided to stop.
How to withdraw when you have a bonus active
Open the cashier or bonus area and note the two figures: cash (deposit) balance and bonus balance.
Check the wagering progress and the bonus expiry date.
Read the clause on withdrawing during a bonus to see what will be forfeited.
Decide: finish the wagering within budget, or withdraw your cash now and give up the bonus.
Make sure your account is verified and the withdrawal method matches your deposit method.
Request the withdrawal and keep the confirmation; it can’t be reversed into play.

Frequently asked questions
Can I withdraw my deposit if I have a bonus active?
Yes. Gambling Commission guidance, building on the CMA’s 2018 action, says operators must let you withdraw your deposit balance at any time, even if a bonus is pending or active, and must not make you meet wagering before you do. The usual consequence is that the remaining bonus and its winnings are cancelled, so check that clause first. Our page can I withdraw my deposit with a bonus active goes through examples.
Does a bonus make withdrawals slower?
Not directly. Payout speed depends on the casino’s approval process and the payment method, not on whether you used a bonus. Delays usually come from incomplete verification, a mismatch between deposit and withdrawal methods, or bonus wagering that was not finished, which stops the bonus funds being released. Coral and Ladbrokes publish approval and method times in their help centres. See how long do withdrawals take after a bonus for the published figures.
Will I lose my winnings if I withdraw before finishing wagering?
You keep winnings made with your own deposit. Winnings made with bonus funds are normally forfeited along with the bonus if you withdraw before wagering is complete, because they are part of the bonus pot. The terms must state this clearly. Which pot a win belongs to depends on the order in which balances are staked, so look at the split in your cashier before deciding. Our bonus forfeiture glossary entry explains the clause.
Can a casino limit how much I withdraw after a bonus?
It can limit bonus-derived winnings, but not your deposit balance. A max win or max cashout clause, such as 10bet’s £1,000 limit on bonus winnings, must be shown as a significant term. The Commission’s guidance says no term may cap withdrawals from your deposit balance, and its example of a banned clause is a weekly withdrawal ceiling. Our withdrawal limit entry explains the difference between the two.
Do free spins winnings affect withdrawals?
Only if they are paid as bonus funds. Cash-paid winnings from no wagering spins can be withdrawn like any other cash, once any qualifying deposit or bet is done. That is how Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO describe their welcome spins: 18+, terms apply. If spin winnings arrive as bonus funds, they stay locked until their wagering, now capped at 10x, is complete. Our page do free spins winnings count as cash covers both set-ups.
Can I cancel a withdrawal and play the money instead?
No, not at a casino licensed in Great Britain. Reverse withdrawals have been banned for all remote operators since 31 October 2021, and once you request a withdrawal the operator should not offer you the option to deposit those funds again. The rule is there to protect people who decide to stop. If you change your mind, you can deposit again later in the normal way. Read our reverse withdrawal glossary entry for background.
Do I have to withdraw to the same method I used for the bonus?
Usually, yes. Casinos generally send withdrawals back to the deposit method, and Coral and Ladbrokes describe a closed-loop policy. Some methods have extra rules: their help centres say a PayPal withdrawal needs a PayPal deposit in the last six months. Because several e-wallets are excluded from welcome offers, debit cards are a common route for both the bonus deposit and the payout. See how to choose a payment method for a bonus.
Can a casino ask for ID only when I try to withdraw?
It should have checked your age and identity before you gambled. Commission guidance says a withdrawal request must not trigger requests for information that could reasonably have been asked for earlier, unless another legal obligation applies at that point, such as anti-money laundering checks. A casino also cannot confiscate money because you didn’t verify within a time limit. Our KYC rules page explains what can still be asked later.
Is there a fee to withdraw bonus winnings?
Not at Coral or Ladbrokes, whose help centres say they charge no withdrawal fees. Casumo charges £3 on withdrawals below £10. PlayOJO and 10bet do not publish a fee, so check the cashier. Commission guidance says any withdrawal fee must be disclosed before you deposit, must not exceed the direct cost, and must not apply to withdrawing your full deposit balance. Our withdrawal rules page summarises the protections.
What if a casino refuses to pay my bonus winnings?
Ask for a written explanation of the term you are said to have broken: Commission guidance says you must be told why a win or withdrawal is refused. Then complain through the casino’s procedure. If it isn’t resolved within eight weeks, the casino must offer referral to an approved alternative dispute resolution provider, which is free to use. Our page why was my withdrawal declined covers common reasons and next steps.
