Pending withdrawal meaning

Pending withdrawal meaning: a payout you have requested that the casino has not yet approved and sent. During this stage the money has left your playable balance and is being checked, usually for identity, payment method and bonus terms. Since 31 October 2021, UK casinos can’t offer to cancel it so you can keep playing.

Key takeaways

  • A pending withdrawal is a payout requested but not yet approved and sent.
  • Pending time is the casino’s review; the payment method’s transfer time comes after.
  • UK rules stop casinos letting you cancel a pending withdrawal to keep playing.
  • Published review times range from a few hours to 3 days among our partners.

Pending withdrawal meaning, stage by stage

A casino withdrawal has two clocks. The first runs from your request until the casino approves it: this is the pending stage, sometimes shown as “processing”, “in review” or “requested”. The second runs from approval until the money reaches your bank, card or e-wallet, and depends on the payment method. When people ask why a withdrawal is “stuck”, they usually mean the first clock. The entry sits with other payout words in our casino bonus glossary, including payout time.

  1. You request a withdrawal; the amount leaves your playable balance.
  2. The request shows as pending while the casino’s team or systems review it.
  3. The casino approves it, or asks you for information, or declines it with a reason.
  4. The payment is sent and the method’s own transfer time begins.
  5. The money arrives in your account.

Why a withdrawal stays pending

Pending time exists so the casino can meet its legal and licence duties before money leaves. Typical checks include:

  • Identity: confirming the account holder is verified. UK casinos must verify age and identity before you gamble, so a payout shouldn’t trigger new requests that could have been made earlier. See KYC.
  • Payment method: most casinos pay back to the method you deposited with, a closed-loop policy.
  • Bonus terms: whether an active bonus is cancelled or whether wagering is complete. See what happens to a bonus when I withdraw?.
  • Security and anti-money laundering: unusual activity can prompt a source of funds question.
  • Timing: requests made at weekends or late at night may wait for a review team.

If a request is declined rather than left pending, our answer to why was my withdrawal declined? lists the common reasons.

Published pending and payout times at our partners

These are each casino’s own published figures, not timings anyone has measured. Where a casino doesn’t publish a figure, we say so.

Published withdrawal review and payout times
CasinoPending (review) stageAfter approval
CoralInternal approval by a review team; Visa Fast Funds approval typically a couple of hoursInstantly to five banking days by method; Visa Fast Funds typically up to 4 hours
LadbrokesAs Coral (same operator)As Coral; Fast Bank Transfer 2 to 4 business days
PlayOJOMajority of payments processed within a few hoursBack to the deposit method where possible
CasumoReviewed within hours; approved or denied within 3 days under its policyCard up to 2 days, bank up to 5 days, e-wallets and Apple Pay instantly
10betNot published separatelyDebit cards and e-wallets up to 2 business days, bank transfer up to 3

Sources are each casino’s help pages, such as Coral’s withdrawal timeframes (opens in a new tab) and Casumo’s withdrawal policy (opens in a new tab). Coral and Ladbrokes note that larger Visa payouts over £2,000 can take longer. For more per-casino detail see Ladbrokes withdrawal time and Casumo withdrawal time.

A pending withdrawal example with numbers

Suppose you finish a set of no-wagering spins with £14.20 of winnings and £10 of cash left from your deposit, then request £24.20 to your Visa debit card at a casino using Visa Fast Funds. Using the published figures above, the request might sit pending for a couple of hours while it is approved, then take up to 4 more hours to reach your bank. If the same request went by Fast Bank Transfer at Ladbrokes, the post-approval stage alone is 2 to 4 business days. At Casumo, a withdrawal under £10 carries a £3 fee, so a £9 request would arrive as £6; at £10 or more there is no fee.

UK rules on pending withdrawals

No regulation sets a maximum number of hours for the pending stage, but the rules do protect you while you wait:

  • No cancelling to keep playing: since 31 October 2021, casinos must not give you the option to cancel a withdrawal request, and shouldn’t offer to deposit those funds once requested. Our reverse withdrawal entry explains this ban.
  • No unreasonable delay: the Commission’s guide for players who can’t withdraw their winnings (opens in a new tab) says you should be able to withdraw at any time without unreasonable delay or restriction, and without being forced into instalments.
  • No late ID demands: a casino can’t make ID a condition of withdrawing if it could have asked earlier, unless the law requires it at that point.
  • Fees: any withdrawal charge must be disclosed and can’t exceed the direct cost.

Our page on UK withdrawal rules has the full detail, and customer funds protection explains how money held for you is ranked if a casino fails.

If a withdrawal stays pending too long

First check the casino’s published timescale and whether it has emailed you for documents. Then contact support with the amount, method and time of the request. If there is no good reason for the delay, use the casino’s complaints process; after eight weeks, or a final response, you can go to its free dispute resolution service. See how to complain about a bonus and where to complain about a casino.

Pending withdrawals and our partners’ spin offers

With wager-free spins, winnings can be requested as soon as the spins are played, so the pending stage is the main wait. Coral (18+, new players, terms apply): deposit, excluding certain methods, and bet £10 or more on slots for 100 free spins at 10p on selected games; accept within 48 hours, valid 7 days, no wagering on winnings. Ladbrokes (18+, new customers, terms apply): spend £10 on slots for 50 free spins a day for 10 days, up to 500 at 10p; claim before 23:59 each day, valid 7 days, no wagering. PlayOJO (18+, new UK customers excluding Northern Ireland, terms apply): first deposit of £10 or more for 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p, winnings paid in cash, and its help page says you can withdraw as little as you want.

Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ offers exclude PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe and prepaid card deposits, and withdrawals generally go back to the deposit method. See Coral withdrawal time for that casino’s method-by-method notes. Treat any winnings as a bonus to your day, not income.

Frequently asked questions

What does pending withdrawal mean?

A pending withdrawal is a payout you have asked for that the casino has not yet approved and sent. The amount has left your playable balance and is waiting for checks on your identity, payment method, any active bonus and security. Once approved, the payment method’s own transfer time applies, which might be minutes for some e-wallets or several days for a bank transfer. At UK-licensed casinos you cannot cancel a pending withdrawal to carry on playing. Our answer to how long do withdrawals take after a bonus? lists published times.

How long can a withdrawal be pending?

There is no legal maximum, but UK rules say withdrawals should not be unreasonably delayed, and each casino publishes its own timescale. Among our partners, PlayOJO says it processes most payments within a few hours, Casumo says it reviews within hours and approves or denies within 3 days, and Coral and Ladbrokes say a review team approves requests before payment. 10bet publishes method times but not a separate pending period. If your wait is longer than the published figure, ask why. Our payout time entry explains the difference between review and transfer.

Can I cancel a pending withdrawal?

Not at a UK-licensed casino: since 31 October 2021, operators must not give customers the option to cancel a withdrawal request. The rule, known as the reverse withdrawal ban, was brought in because letting people pull money back into play encouraged impulsive gambling. Once you have requested a payout, the casino also should not invite you to deposit those funds. If you change your mind after the money arrives, you would need to make a fresh deposit, which counts towards any deposit limit. Our reverse withdrawal entry explains the ban.

Why is my casino withdrawal still pending?

Usually because the casino is still checking something: your identity, the payment method, an active bonus, or a security flag. Requests made at weekends or overnight can wait for a review team. If documents are needed, the casino should tell you, but it cannot demand ID at withdrawal that it could reasonably have asked for earlier. Check your email and account messages first, then contact support with the amount and time of the request. Our guide to how to verify your casino account can help avoid repeat delays.

Does a bonus make a withdrawal stay pending longer?

It can, because the casino checks whether wagering is complete and whether the terms were followed before paying bonus-related winnings. If a bonus is still active when you withdraw, many terms cancel it, and the casino may review this before approval. Wager-free spin winnings are cash, so they should not need extra bonus checks. Your own deposit balance must be withdrawable at any time regardless. See does a bonus affect withdrawals? for how each type of offer is handled.

Is a pending withdrawal safe?

At a UK-licensed casino, cleared deposits and unpaid winnings count as customer funds, and the casino must tell you before your first deposit how those funds are protected if it becomes insolvent. The Commission’s ratings are not protected, medium protection and high protection, the last meaning a separate account controlled by an independent trustee. Pending money cannot be put back into play at your request. Delays beyond the published timescale should be raised with support and, if needed, through the complaints process. Our customer funds protection page explains the levels.

What should I do if my withdrawal is pending for days?

Compare the wait with the casino’s published timescale, then contact support with the details of the request and ask what is outstanding. Keep a record of each contact. If the casino cannot give a reason or the delay continues, make a formal complaint; it has eight weeks to resolve it, after which you can take the dispute to its alternative dispute resolution provider for free. The Gambling Commission does not settle individual complaints. Our guide on how disputes over bonuses are resolved sets out the process.
