Payout time meaning

Payout time meaning: the total time between asking a casino to withdraw your money and that money reaching your bank, card or e-wallet. It has two parts, the casino's own approval stage and the payment method's transfer time, and a bonus that still has wagering to finish can hold back the bonus part of your balance.

Key takeaways

  • Payout time = the casino's approval (pending) stage + the payment method's transfer time.
  • No UK rule sets a maximum payout time, but withdrawals must not face unreasonable delay.
  • Coral and Ladbrokes say their method times are added on top of internal approval.
  • Unfinished wagering affects bonus winnings, never your own deposit balance.
  • Verifying your account early removes the most common cause of a slow first payout.

Payout time meaning in casino terms

Payout time is how long a withdrawal takes from start to finish. Casinos sometimes call it withdrawal time, cash-out time or processing time, and the figures they publish don't always measure the same thing. One help page may quote only the approval stage; another may quote only how long the bank takes once the money is sent. This entry in the casino bonus glossary splits it into its parts so the published numbers make sense.

A simple way to think of it: payout time = pending time + transfer time. The pending stage is covered in more detail under pending withdrawal; the transfer stage depends on the method you deposited with, because UK casinos generally pay back to the same method where they can.

Payout time meaning, stage by stage

Stage 1: approval by the casino

When you ask to withdraw, the request goes to the operator's payments or review team. They check that the account is verified, that any bonus terms have been met and that nothing looks wrong. Coral's help centre describes this as internal approval by a review team, and says the method times it publishes are additional to that step. Casumo's withdrawal policy says requests are approved or denied within 3 days, while its homepage says they are usually reviewed within a matter of hours.

Stage 2: the payment method

Once approved, the money is sent. Fast card payouts such as Visa Fast Funds and e-wallets tend to be quickest; standard bank transfers usually take longer. Weekends and bank holidays can stretch any figure quoted in business or banking days.

Since 31 October 2021 UK casinos have not been allowed to offer reverse withdrawals, so you can't be invited to cancel a pending withdrawal and play the money instead. The Commission's reverse withdrawal ban (opens in a new tab) covers all online operators. See reverse withdrawal for more.

Published payout times at our partner casinos

These are the operators' own published figures, taken from their help pages and withdrawal policies. They are not timings anyone can promise for a particular request, and the cashier shows the current position for your account.

Coral's page on withdrawal timeframes (opens in a new tab) and its Visa Fast Funds page (opens in a new tab) are the source for the Coral row; Coral notes that payouts over £2,000 by Visa Fast Funds can take longer. Partner-by-partner detail is on the Coral withdrawal, Ladbrokes withdrawal, PlayOJO withdrawal, Casumo withdrawal and 10bet withdrawal pages.

A worked payout time example

Suppose a Coral customer finishes their 100 no-wagering spins (100 × 10p = £10 of spins) with £14 of winnings, which are paid as cash. They request the £14 on a Tuesday morning. Using Coral's published figures, a Visa Fast Funds payout would typically be approved within a couple of hours and then reach the bank within up to 4 hours, so the same day is a reasonable expectation. The same £14 sent by Fast Bank Transfer would typically land 2–4 business days after approval, so Thursday to the following Monday. Nothing here is a promise: checks on a first withdrawal, or a request late on a Friday, can push either route back.

Now compare a deposit-match bonus with wagering. At Casumo, a £20 deposit brings a £10 bonus that must be wagered 10x (£100) within 7 days. Your own £20 deposit balance can be withdrawn at any time, but bonus winnings only become withdrawable once the £100 of wagering is complete. In that case the clock that matters is your wagering progress, not the payout time itself.

What slows a payout down

  • Verification not finished. Identity checks should be done before you gamble; the guide to verifying your casino account explains what is asked for and when.
  • Bonus terms still running. Unmet wagering or a max cashout cap affects how much bonus money can be withdrawn.
  • Changing payment method. Paying out to a different method than you deposited with may need extra checks.
  • Large amounts. Coral and Ladbrokes say Visa Fast Funds payouts over £2,000 are slower.
  • Weekends and bank holidays. Times quoted in business days stop counting.

UK rules behind payout times

There is no legal maximum payout time in Great Britain. What the Gambling Commission does say, in its consumer page on what to do if you can't withdraw your winnings (opens in a new tab), is that you should be able to withdraw without unreasonable delay or restriction, that you don't have to accept payment in instalments, and that a business can't make ID a condition of withdrawal if it could have asked earlier. Our summary of the UK withdrawal rules sets these out with dates.

Withdrawal fees must be shown before you deposit and can't exceed the direct cost of processing. A withdrawal limit on your deposit balance is not allowed at all.

Frequently asked questions

What does payout time mean at an online casino?

Payout time is the total time from asking to withdraw to the money arriving in your account. It combines the casino's approval or pending stage, where the request is checked, with the transfer time of your payment method. Some operators publish only one of those parts, which is why figures can look inconsistent. Coral and Ladbrokes, for example, say their method times are added on top of internal approval. Our pending withdrawal entry explains the first stage in more detail.

Is there a legal maximum payout time in the UK?

No. The Gambling Commission has not set a maximum number of hours or days for a withdrawal. Its consumer guidance says you should be able to withdraw without unreasonable delay or restriction, that you don't have to accept instalments, and that ID requests shouldn't be saved until you try to withdraw if they could have been made earlier. Operators set and publish their own timings. If you think a delay is unreasonable, complain to the operator and then to an ADR body; see the UK withdrawal rules for the detail.

Which payment method usually has the fastest payout time?

At our partners, the published figures point to e-wallets and fast card payouts. Casumo says PayPal, Apple Pay, Skrill, Neteller and MuchBetter pay instantly once approved, against up to 2 days for cards and up to 5 for bank transfers. Coral and Ladbrokes say Visa Fast Funds typically arrives within 4 hours of approval. Bear in mind that some of these methods are excluded from welcome offers, so check the terms before choosing. Our guide to choosing a payment method for a bonus weighs this up.

Does a bonus make the payout time longer?

Not directly, but it can affect what you are allowed to withdraw. Your own deposit balance can always be withdrawn, even with a bonus active. Bonus winnings become withdrawable only after any wagering is complete, and a maximum winnings cap may apply, as with 10bet's £1,000 limit on bonus winnings. No-wagering spins, like those from Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO, pay winnings as cash, so they don't add a wagering step. Our answer on whether a bonus affects withdrawals covers the details.

Why is my first casino payout slower than later ones?

First withdrawals often get extra checks. The operator may confirm the payment method is in your name, look at whether bonus terms were met and finish any identity checks still open. UK rules say ID should be checked before you gamble, so finishing verification straight after sign-up usually removes the main hold-up. PlayOJO, for example, says it aims to verify documents within 12 hours. Our answer on how long casino verification takes lists what is commonly requested.

Can I cancel a withdrawal while it is pending?

No, not at a UK-licensed casino. Since 31 October 2021 the Gambling Commission has banned reverse withdrawals, meaning operators must not give you the option to cancel a withdrawal request and play the money instead. The rule was brought in because the option encouraged people to keep gambling money they had decided to take out. Once you press withdraw, the money stays set aside until it is paid or the request is declined with a reason. Read the reverse withdrawal entry for the background.

Do casinos charge fees that affect payout time or amount?

Some do, and fees must be shown before you deposit. Coral and Ladbrokes state that they charge no withdrawal fees. Casumo charges £3 on withdrawals below £10 and nothing at £10 or more, according to its withdrawal policy. Commission guidance says fees must not exceed the direct cost of processing, and withdrawing your full deposit balance must not be charged. Fees don't usually change timing, but they do change what arrives. Our minimum withdrawal after a bonus answer covers small payouts.
