Pending bonus meaning

Pending bonus meaning: a bonus or set of free spins that you have qualified for, or are about to, but that isn't active in your account yet. It might be waiting for you to accept it, for a qualifying bet to settle, for checks to finish or for another bonus to end. Many pending bonuses have a deadline, so it pays to know which kind you have.

Key takeaways

  • A pending bonus is earned or offered but not yet active or playable.
  • Common causes: needing to accept it, a qualifying bet not settled, verification or another bonus in the way.
  • Claim windows matter: Coral's spins must be accepted within 48 hours, Ladbrokes' daily spins by 23:59.
  • Your own deposit can still be withdrawn while a bonus is pending.
  • An excluded payment method is a frequent reason a bonus never arrives at all.

Pending bonus meaning in your account

Casinos show bonuses in stages. An offer may be available, then pending once you have done something to qualify, then active once credited, and finally completed, expired or forfeited. The pending stage is the gap between qualifying and being able to play. In our casino bonus glossary it sits next to pending withdrawal, which is a different thing: that is your own money waiting to be paid out.

The word covers several situations, and the fix depends on which one applies. Some pending bonuses activate on their own within minutes; others need you to press accept within a deadline, and will disappear if you don't.

Why a bonus shows as pending

Common reasons for a pending bonus
ReasonWhat is happeningWhat you can do
Waiting to be acceptedThe bonus is offered but needs your acceptanceAccept it in the promotions or bonus area before the deadline
Qualifying bet not settledThe spend that triggers the offer hasn't finished countingFinish the qualifying play; check what counts as a qualifying bet
Deposit still being creditedSome methods take longer to arriveCheck the cashier; PlayOJO says some methods can take up to 3 working days
Verification not completeAge and identity must be checked before you gambleUpload any documents requested
Another bonus activeOnly one bonus can run at a timeFinish or forfeit the first; see bonus queue
Excluded payment methodThe deposit doesn't qualify, so the bonus may never arriveCheck the exclusions before depositing

The last row is the one that can't be fixed afterwards. Coral's welcome spins exclude Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards; Ladbrokes excludes prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers. A deposit made that way won't produce a pending bonus at all. Our guide to how payment exclusions work explains why these lists exist.

A pending bonus timeline, worked through

Using Coral's published terms: a new player deposits with a qualifying debit card on a Monday at 7pm and bets £10 on slots. Once the qualifying bets have counted, 100 spins worth 10p each (£10 in total) are offered. They are pending until accepted, and the terms allow 48 hours, so the deadline is around 7pm on Wednesday. Once accepted, the spins are valid for 7 days. Winnings carry no wagering.

Ladbrokes works on a daily cycle: after £10 of slots play, 50 spins are available each day for the first 10 days, each batch to be claimed before 23:59 that day and used within 7 days. A day's batch left pending past midnight is lost, so the full 500 (worth £50 at 10p) only arrives if every day's batch is claimed. Our pages on the claim window and validity period explain the two separate deadlines.

How to activate a pending bonus

  1. Open the promotions, bonuses or rewards area of your account.
  2. Look for the offer marked pending, available or waiting, and read the significant terms shown with it.
  3. Accept or opt in if asked; UK promotions must be opted into rather than applied automatically.
  4. If it needs a qualifying bet, finish that play on eligible games at or above the minimum stake.
  5. If it still doesn't appear, contact support with the time of your deposit and qualifying play.

The Commission's guidance on compulsory publicity and opt-in (opens in a new tab) says players must opt into promotions rather than be enrolled automatically, which is why many bonuses wait for you to accept them. Our guide on how to opt in to a bonus covers it step by step, and why was my bonus not credited? works through the most common faults.

Pending bonus meaning for your rights

A pending bonus doesn't tie up your own money. Commission guidance on withdrawing your deposit (opens in a new tab) says players must be told they can withdraw their deposit balance at any time, including when a bonus is pending or active. Doing so may mean the bonus is cancelled, which is fine if you no longer want it.

Once you have opted in, the terms can't be changed against you: the Commission's guidance on the right to vary a promotion (opens in a new tab) says operators must not vary or withdraw a promotion for a customer who has opted in, except to prevent fraud or similar unlawful behaviour. And since 19 January 2026 any wagering on the bonus, once active, is capped at 10x under the 10x wagering cap.

If a bonus is pending because of a block on your account, or because you have self-excluded, it won't be activated. Operators must stop new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of harm. Support is free on the National Gambling Helpline, 0808 8020 133.

Pending bonuses on our partner offers

Each partner handles the pending stage differently. Coral (18+, new players, offer runs 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027): deposit (certain types excluded) and bet £10+ on slots, then accept the 100 free spins at 10p within 48 hours and use them within 7 days; no wagering on winnings. Ladbrokes (18+, new customers): deposit and spend £10+ on slots, then claim 50 free spins at 10p before 23:59 each day for 10 days (max 500), each batch valid 7 days, no wagering. See how to claim the Coral bonus and how to claim the Ladbrokes bonus.

PlayOJO (18+, new UK customers excluding Northern Ireland) credits 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, 10p each, on a first deposit of at least £10 made via the designated offer link; winnings are cash with no wagering, and the offer can't be combined with others. Terms apply; how to claim the PlayOJO bonus has the steps.

Frequently asked questions

What does pending bonus mean?

It means a bonus you have qualified for, or been offered, that isn't active yet. It may be waiting for you to accept it, for qualifying play to settle, for a deposit to be credited, for identity checks to finish, or for another bonus to end. Some pending bonuses activate automatically; others vanish if not accepted by a deadline. Check the promotions area of your account to see which applies. Our claim window entry explains the acceptance deadline.

How long does a bonus stay pending?

It depends on the reason. A bonus waiting for acceptance stays pending until the claim window closes: 48 hours for Coral's welcome spins, and until 23:59 each day for each batch of Ladbrokes' daily spins. A bonus waiting for qualifying play stays pending until that play is complete. Deposits by some methods can take longer to arrive, which delays the bonus too. If nothing changes after the terms say it should, contact support. See when do free spins credit?.

Why is my bonus pending after I deposited?

Usually because a second step is still needed: a qualifying bet, such as £10 on slots, or accepting the offer in your account. It may also be that the deposit hasn't been credited yet, that verification isn't finished, or that another bonus is already active. If you paid with an excluded method, such as PayPal or Skrill for Coral's offer, the bonus may never arrive. Our answer on why a bonus was not credited works through each cause.

Can I withdraw my deposit while a bonus is pending?

Yes. Gambling Commission guidance says you must be told you can withdraw your deposit balance at any time, including when a bonus is pending or active. The terms may say the bonus is cancelled if you do, which is allowed, but your own money can't be held back by the bonus. This protection came from undertakings given to the CMA in 2018. Our UK bonus withdrawal rules page sets out the rest of your rights.

What if a pending bonus never appears?

Contact support with the date and time of your deposit, the amount, the payment method and details of your qualifying play. Ask them to confirm whether you qualified and, if not, which term wasn't met. If you believe you met every condition and the operator disagrees, use its complaints process, then an ADR service such as IBAS. Keep screenshots of the offer as shown when you signed up. Our answer on what to do if the casino forgets your free spins covers this.

Is a pending bonus the same as an opt-in bonus?

Not quite. Opting in is the act of choosing to take part in a promotion, which UK guidance says must be your choice rather than automatic. A pending bonus is the status after you have opted in or qualified but before the bonus is active. Some offers need both an opt-in and a later acceptance step; others credit straight after qualifying. Casumo's welcome bonus requires an opt-in, for example. Our opt-in bonus page explains how opt-ins work.
