Qualifying deposit meaning

Qualifying deposit meaning: a deposit that meets every condition an offer sets, so that it triggers the bonus. Amount is only one test. The payment method, the timing, whether it's your first deposit and whether you opted in first can all decide it. A £50 deposit by PayPal at Coral, for instance, doesn't qualify for the welcome spins.

Key takeaways

  • A qualifying deposit must pass every test in the terms: amount, method, timing, order and opt-in.
  • Payment exclusions are the most common trap: Coral, Ladbrokes and 10bet all exclude some e-wallets.
  • A deposit that doesn't qualify is still your money and can be played or withdrawn.
  • Advertising rules treat excluded payment methods as a significant condition that must be prominent.
  • Ask support straight away if a deposit you think qualified didn't trigger the offer.

Qualifying deposit meaning: the five tests

Most bonus terms describe the deposit that triggers an offer in a short phrase such as 'first deposit of £10 or more', then set out exceptions further down. Put together, a deposit usually has to pass five tests to count as a qualifying deposit.

Miss one and the deposit is credited as ordinary cash, with no bonus. Our casino bonus glossary has entries for each related term, including first deposit and minimum deposit.

Payment methods that stop a deposit qualifying

E-wallets and prepaid methods are the usual exclusions. Casinos generally cite fraud and duplicate-account risks, as our page on how payment exclusions work explains. The lists below come from each offer's terms as last checked on 5 October 2026.

  • Coral: Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't qualify.
  • Ladbrokes: prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers don't qualify.
  • 10bet: Skrill and Neteller deposits are excluded from the welcome bonus.
  • Casumo: payment restrictions apply; check the offer terms for the current list.
  • PlayOJO: the offer needs a first deposit of £10 or more through the designated offer link.

If you normally pay by PayPal, our pages on the PayPal casino bonus and Skrill and Neteller casino bonus explain where those methods do and don't count. A plain debit card is the method most often accepted.

Qualifying deposit examples with numbers

Three people each pay £20 into a new account. The first uses a debit card at Casumo after opting in: that's a qualifying deposit, earning a £10 bonus (50%) with £100 of wagering (10x) to complete within 7 days. The second uses Skrill at 10bet: the deposit is credited as £20 of cash, but no 100% match follows because Skrill is excluded. The third uses a debit card at PlayOJO without going through the offer link: the deposit may not be tied to the 80-spin offer, so check with support before playing.

Only the first earns a bonus, yet all three deposits are equally real money. A deposit that misses the bonus is still yours to withdraw. The page why was my bonus not credited lists the usual causes.

Qualifying deposit vs qualifying bet

Some offers stop at the deposit; others add a second step. PlayOJO's 80 spins are triggered by the deposit itself. Coral and Ladbrokes ask you to deposit and then bet or spend £10 on slots before the spins arrive, which adds a qualifying bet on top of the qualifying deposit. In those cases the deposit method has to qualify and the stakes have to be placed on the right games.

The comparison bet £10 get free spins looks at the two 'bet' offers side by side.

UK rules on how qualifying deposits are shown

Deposit requirements and excluded payment methods are significant conditions. The Gambling Commission's transparency guidance (opens in a new tab) says these must appear with the headline offer on landing and sign-up pages, not only in the full terms. CAP's 2018 guidance, announced as hedge your bets (opens in a new tab), lists deposit requirements among the conditions an advert must state.

In a July 2024 ruling, the ASA found that an excluded payment method placed in small print among the full terms of a William Hill offer wasn't prominent enough. Our page on significant conditions in ads covers that line of rulings.

If your deposit didn't qualify

  1. Check your bonus balance and the promotions area to confirm that nothing has been credited.
  2. Check the amount, method, timing and opt-in against the offer terms.
  3. Contact support with the deposit time, amount and method.
  4. If the deposit qualified and the bonus is still missing, raise a formal complaint.

The guide to why a bonus might not be credited covers each step and what to keep as evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Why didn't my deposit qualify for the bonus?

Usually because one of the conditions wasn't met: the amount was below the bonus minimum, the payment method was excluded, it wasn't your first deposit, it fell outside the time window, or you didn't opt in first. E-wallets and prepaid cards are the most frequent cause at our partners. The deposit is still credited as cash and can be withdrawn. Ask support to confirm which test was missed. The page why did my bonus disappear covers similar problems after a bonus is credited.

Does PayPal count as a qualifying deposit?

Not at Coral or Ladbrokes, whose welcome offers both exclude PayPal deposits. 10bet's terms exclude Skrill and Neteller rather than PayPal, and Casumo's say payment restrictions apply, so check the current list before depositing. A PayPal deposit at an excluding casino is accepted as cash but earns no bonus. The page why are PayPal deposits excluded explains the reasons casinos give, and the PayPal casino bonus page tracks where it counts.

Is the qualifying deposit always the first deposit?

For welcome offers it usually is. PlayOJO's and Casumo's welcome offers are tied to the first deposit, and 10bet's must be made within 7 days of choosing the casino bonus. Reload offers for existing customers use later deposits instead, with their own minimums. Once you've made a first deposit without the bonus, you generally can't go back and claim it later. Our page on second deposit bonus offers explains how later-deposit promotions work.

Can I deposit more than the qualifying amount?

Yes. The qualifying amount is a minimum, so a larger deposit still qualifies, subject to the payment method and any cap per deposit (£2,000 per deposit at Coral and Ladbrokes). For free spins offers the extra doesn't add more spins. For a match bonus it raises the bonus until the cap is reached, and wagering rises with it. The entry on the bonus cap shows where extra deposit stops adding value.

Do I need to opt in before making a qualifying deposit?

Often yes. Casumo's welcome bonus needs an opt-in, 10bet asks you to choose the casino bonus at sign-up, and PlayOJO's must be claimed through its offer link. Depositing before opting in can mean the deposit no longer counts. The Commission's guidance says players must opt in to promotions rather than being enrolled automatically, which is why this step exists. Our guide to how to opt in to a bonus shows where the option usually sits.

Can I withdraw a qualifying deposit?

Yes. Gambling Commission guidance says you must be able to withdraw your deposit balance at any time, even when a bonus linked to it is active, and that wagering requirements can't be applied to your own money. Withdrawing may cancel the bonus and any bonus winnings, so read that clause before you do. With no-wagering spins, winnings are paid as cash anyway.
