Keno bonus: how it really works

A keno bonus is any casino offer whose bonus money, spins or wagering can be used on keno, and in the UK that is rare: most welcome offers are built for slots, and keno is usually excluded or counts for a small share of wagering. None of our five partner casinos runs a keno-specific offer, so this guide explains the maths and terms plainly.

Key takeaways

  • None of our partners runs a keno bonus; their welcome offers are slot spins or slot-weighted deposit matches (18+, terms apply).
  • Keno often counts 0% or a small share towards wagering, which can multiply the stakes needed several times over.
  • Keno pay tables vary by game and by how many numbers you pick, so check the RTP on the help screen before using any bonus.
  • Since 17 January 2025 online keno can’t autoplay and each draw must take at least 5 seconds; bonus wagering is capped at 10x since 19 January 2026.

What a keno bonus is and why it is hard to find in the UK

Keno is a number-draw game: you choose a set of numbers (called ‘spots’), the game draws 20 numbers from 80, and the pay table pays according to how many of your spots match. A keno bonus is simply a casino promotion that lets you use bonus funds on that game, or that counts keno stakes towards the wagering requirements of a deposit bonus.

In practice, the UK market rarely offers anything labelled as a keno bonus. Welcome offers at licensed casinos are mostly free spins on named slots or deposit match bonuses with slot-focused terms. Where keno appears in bonus terms at all, it is usually in the list of excluded games or in a game weighting table that gives it a reduced percentage. Our game bonuses hub covers how this works across bingo, table games, live casino and more.

Honest answer first: none of our five partner casinos (Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet) advertises a keno bonus. Their welcome offers are listed further down, with the terms that stop them from fitting a keno player.

How keno pays, and why that matters for any bonus

Unlike a slot, where the paytable is fixed for every spin, a keno game has a separate pay table for each number of spots you select. Picking 2 spots pays modest amounts quite often; picking 10 pays rarely but can return a large multiple. Each table has its own return to player, so one keno game can carry several different RTP figures depending on how you play it.

That is the first reason casinos treat keno cautiously in bonus terms, and the first reason you should too. The Gambling Commission’s technical standards require game rules, payouts and the likelihood of winning to be available before play, as set out in RTS 3 on game descriptions and the likelihood of winning (opens in a new tab). Open the help screen and read the RTP for the number of spots you intend to play before deciding whether any bonus is worth using on keno.

Keno bonus game weighting: the percentage that decides everything

Game weighting, also called the contribution percentage, says how much of each stake counts towards wagering. A slot at 100% means a £1 spin clears £1 of wagering. A game at 10% means the same £1 bet clears only 10p. Keno, along with many non-slot games, is commonly set low or at 0%, and many terms simply leave it off the list of eligible games.

Since 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission’s 10x wagering cap limits how many times bonus funds can be played through. The cap counts the bonus amount, but low weighting still means you have to place far more stakes than the headline multiple suggests. Our guide to how game weighting works has the general formula.

10%£2,00010 times as much

Keno bonus maths: what wagering costs on a number-draw game

The average cost of clearing wagering is roughly the stakes you place multiplied by the house edge. On a slot with a 96% RTP (4% edge), £200 of wagering costs about £8 on average. Keno is different because its RTP depends on the game and the pay table, and published keno returns are often lower than typical online slots. That makes the RTP on the help screen the most important number on the page.

The table below uses three example RTPs to show how quickly the expected cost grows. These are illustrations of the maths, not figures for any particular keno game: always use the number shown in the game you are looking at.

Average cost of £1,000 of keno stakes (a £20 bonus at 10x with 20% weighting)
RTP shown on help screenHouse edgeAverage cost of £1,000 stakedAgainst a £20 bonus
96%4%£40Twice the bonus
92%8%£80Four times the bonus
85%15%£1507.5 times the bonus

The pattern is clear: once weighting is low, even a modest house edge means the average cost of clearing the wagering is larger than the bonus itself. Averages hide wide swings, and any single session can finish well above or below them, but a bonus can’t change a game’s odds. A wagering calculator lets you test your own numbers in the same way.

Keno bonus terms to read line by line

If a casino does let keno count, the offer still sits inside a set of conditions. The ones that matter most for a number-draw game are below. The Commission’s guidance on transparency (opens in a new tab) says significant conditions must be shown with the headline offer and full terms must be no more than a click away.

  • Eligible games list: does it name keno, a ‘number games’ category, or only slots? If keno isn’t listed, assume it doesn’t count.
  • Weighting table: the percentage for keno, and whether it differs by version.
  • Maximum bet: a max bet applies per draw while a bonus is active. Casumo, for example, caps bets at £5 with an active bonus.
  • Expiry: keno draws must last at least 5 seconds online, so a short validity period leaves less room to clear wagering at low weighting.
  • Maximum win: any cap on bonus winnings limits what a large keno hit can turn into.
  • Excluded payment methods: deposits by some e-wallets or prepaid cards may not qualify at all.

How to check whether a casino bonus works on keno

  1. Open the promotion page and find the significant terms box under the headline offer.
  2. Follow the link to the full bonus terms and search the page for ‘keno’, ‘number games’ and ‘excluded’.
  3. Find the weighting for keno and multiply the wagering by 100 ÷ that percentage to get the real stakes needed.
  4. Open the keno game’s help screen and note the RTP for the number of spots you would pick.
  5. Multiply the real stakes by the house edge (100% minus RTP) to get an average cost, and compare it with the bonus.
  6. If the cost is higher than the bonus, or keno is excluded, decline the bonus or opt out and play with your own money if you want to play at all.

Remember that you can always withdraw your own deposited money while a bonus is active: Commission guidance on restrictions on withdrawing deposits (opens in a new tab) says wagering can’t be applied to the deposit balance. Our page on whether you can withdraw your deposit with a bonus active covers the detail.

UK rules that shape keno and any keno bonus in 2026

Keno sits under the same online casino rules as other non-slot games. Several changes in the last two years affect how it plays and how a bonus on it would work.

The online slot stake limits (£5 per spin for 25+, £2 for 18–24s) apply to slots, not keno, but bonus max-bet terms still apply on top. Read our pages on slot game design rules and the mixed-product promotion ban for the full background.

Keno bonus myths and facts

Advantages

  • Fact: game weighting is set in the bonus terms and must be clear before you opt in.
  • Fact: you can keep and withdraw your own deposit balance while a bonus is active.
  • Fact: online keno results come from a random number generator and can’t be adjusted to hit a target return.

Drawbacks

  • Myth: picking ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ numbers improves a keno bonus. Every draw is independent.
  • Myth: a bonus makes keno cheaper to play. The house edge still applies to every stake.
  • Myth: more spots means better value. Each pay table has its own RTP; more spots only changes the shape of the wins.

The point about random outcomes comes from the Commission’s technical standards, which do not allow online games to adjust results to reach a set return. That means no pattern, timing or number choice changes your long-run return. That rules out every ‘system’ sold for keno.

Best alternatives to a keno bonus for UK players

If you enjoy keno and want something back from a casino, the honest options are narrow. A wager-free reward that applies to every game is closer to what a keno player wants than a slot welcome offer. PlayOJO describes OJOplus as money back on every game played, with no wagering; its published terms don’t give a rate we can confirm, so check the PlayOJO site for how it works. We explain the idea on our OJOplus explainer.

The other route is to treat a slot offer as a separate thing. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ spins follow a £10 slots bet, so that qualifying bet can’t be placed on keno. If you only want to play keno, a slot welcome offer doesn’t help, and it is fine to say no to it. The reasons are set out in when to say no to a bonus.

Keeping keno play under control

Keno can be quick to replay even with the 5-second minimum, and a bonus with low weighting can quietly push you towards placing many more stakes. Set a deposit limit before your first deposit (operators must prompt you for one since 31 October 2025), use reality checks, and stop when your budget is spent. Gambling is entertainment that costs money, and losses are the likely result over time.

If keno or any other game stops feeling like a choice, the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133, free and open 24/7) is run by GamCare, and GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) lets you exclude yourself from all UK-licensed gambling sites at once. Both are free to use.

Where to play: how our partner offers compare with a keno bonus

None of the three offers below is a keno bonus, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. All are 18+ and for new customers, and terms apply. Here is how each relates to a keno player:

  • PlayOJO (closest fit for a non-slot player): 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each (£8 of spins) after a first deposit of at least £10, with no wagering on spin winnings. Not available in Northern Ireland and only through the designated offer link. OJOplus money back applies across games.
  • Coral: bet £10 or more on slots to get 100 free spins at 10p (£10 of spins) on selected games, accepted within 48 hours and valid for 7 days, no wagering on winnings. Runs 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027; Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don’t qualify.
  • Ladbrokes: spend £10 or more on slots to get 50 free spins a day for 10 days (up to 500 at 10p, so up to £50 of spins), claimed before 23:59 each day and valid for 7 days, no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don’t qualify.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so check the terms before trying to join both. Compare every partner on our casino bonuses page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a casino bonus on keno in the UK?

Sometimes, but usually not on a welcome offer. Most UK sign-up deals are free spins on named slots or deposit matches whose terms list slots as the eligible games, and keno is often excluded or weighted at a small percentage. Where keno does count, you will find it in the bonus terms’ eligible games list or weighting table. If it isn’t named, assume it doesn’t count and ask support before you opt in. The usual pattern is explained in which games are excluded from bonuses.

Do any of your partner casinos offer a keno bonus?

No. Coral and Ladbrokes give free spins after a £10 slots bet, PlayOJO gives 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza after a first deposit of at least £10, Casumo offers a 50% match up to £100 and 10bet a 100% match up to £25 wagered on slots. None is built for keno, and all are 18+ with terms applying. The nearest thing for a keno player is PlayOJO’s OJOplus money back, which the casino says applies to every game played. See our PlayOJO bonus page for the full terms.

What does game weighting mean for keno?

Game weighting is the share of each keno stake that counts towards wagering. At 100%, a £1 draw clears £1; at 10%, the same £1 clears 10p, so a £200 wagering target needs £2,000 of keno stakes. Many UK offers set keno low or at 0%, which means keno play doesn’t reduce wagering at all. The percentage is in the bonus terms, usually in a table near the eligible games list. Read our contribution percentage entry for more worked examples.

Is a keno bonus worth it?

Usually not, once you do the maths. Keno’s RTP depends on the game and the number of spots, and low weighting multiplies the stakes needed to clear wagering. With a £20 bonus at 10x and 20% weighting, you need £1,000 of keno stakes; at a 92% RTP that costs about £80 on average, four times the bonus. Results vary widely in any session, but the averages rarely favour keno bonuses. You can test any offer with is a casino bonus worth it?

What RTP does online keno have?

It depends on the game and on how many numbers you pick, because each spot count uses its own pay table with its own return. There is no single keno RTP, and published returns are often lower than typical online slots. UK rules require the RTP or likelihood of winning to be available before you play, so open the help screen and look for the figure that matches the number of spots you plan to choose. Our RTP glossary entry explains how to read it.

Is autoplay allowed on online keno in the UK?

No. Since 17 January 2025, the Gambling Commission’s rules require each game cycle on online casino games to be started individually, which ended auto-draw features on keno at UK-licensed sites. The same changes set a minimum of 5 seconds per game cycle for non-slot casino games and require your net position and elapsed time to be shown during a session. These rules apply whether or not a bonus is active. Our slot game design rules page covers the earlier slot version.

Does the £5 stake limit apply to keno?

No. The online stake limits of £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds apply to online slots only. Keno has no equivalent legal stake cap, but a bonus’s own maximum bet still applies while the bonus is active. Casumo, for instance, caps bets at £5 with an active bonus, and breaking a max-bet term can lead to bonus winnings being removed. Read our page on online slot stake limits for the slot rules.

Can I use free spins on keno?

No. Free spins are credited to specific slot games set by the offer, and they can’t be moved to keno or any other game. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ offers list their selected slots on the promotion page, and PlayOJO’s 80 spins are on Big Bass Bonanza. Winnings from those spins are paid without wagering at all three partners, so once they land as cash you can choose how to use or withdraw them. Our how free spins work page has more detail.

Why do casinos exclude keno from bonuses?

Mainly because of how keno’s pay tables and volatility interact with wagering. A game with many pay table options, some with very large top prizes, makes the cost of a bonus harder for a casino to predict, so many simply leave it out of eligible games. Excluding it must be stated clearly in the terms; UK guidance says prohibited play has to be set out in advance. Our page on why some games are excluded from bonuses goes into the reasons.

Can I withdraw my own money if I take a bonus and then want to play keno?

Yes. Gambling Commission guidance says you must be able to withdraw your deposit balance at any time, even when a bonus is active, and wagering can’t be applied to your own money. If you claim a bonus and then decide keno doesn’t count, you can withdraw what is left of your deposit, though you may forfeit the bonus. Terms must make the order of balances clear. See how bonus funds and cash are used for which balance is played first.
