Megaways bonus guide

A Megaways bonus is any casino offer, such as free spins or a deposit match, that you can use on Megaways slots. None of our partners runs a Megaways-only deal in October 2026, but slot offers can often be played on them. This guide shows what the bonus is worth on games with up to 117,649 ways, and which terms bite hardest.

Key takeaways

  • No partner casino runs a dedicated Megaways bonus; general slot offers may cover them, so check each offer's listed games.
  • Megaways slots are mostly high or very high volatility, so a bonus with wagering and a short expiry is more likely to run dry before it clears.
  • Since 19 January 2026, UK bonus wagering is capped at 10x the bonus; at a 4% house edge, £1,000 of wagering costs about £40 on average.
  • Bonus max-bet rules sit on top of the £5 (25+) and £2 (18–24) online slot stake limits.

What a Megaways bonus actually is

A Megaways bonus is not a special product. It is an ordinary casino promotion, usually free spins or a deposit match bonus, that either names a Megaways slot as its game or lets you spend bonus funds on Megaways titles. The label comes from the reel mechanic Big Time Gaming created, which other studios now use under licence, as Casino Beats reported when Blueprint brought Megaways to UK players (opens in a new tab).

In practice you'll meet three versions of a Megaways bonus in the UK:

  • Spins on one named Megaways slot, for example 50 spins at 10p on a single title. The value is easy to work out: spins × stake.
  • Spins on a list of selected games that happens to include Megaways slots. The offer page names the games, and that list is what counts.
  • Bonus funds you can play on most slots, Megaways included, subject to game weighting, a max-bet rule and an expiry date.

The mechanic matters to a bonus because it changes how the money moves. Megaways slots tend to pay often in small amounts and then, much less often, a lot in one go. That pattern is fine when you're playing with cash you're happy to spend, but it collides with bonus terms that give you a fixed number of days to wager a set amount. This page is part of our casino bonuses by game section, which looks at how each type of game treats a bonus.

Is there a Megaways bonus at our partner casinos?

Not as a dedicated offer. As of our last check on 5 October 2026, none of our five partners advertises a welcome deal tied to Megaways slots. What exists instead is a set of slot offers, and whether a Megaways game is included depends on each offer's own game list:

Partner welcome offers and Megaways slots (18+, terms apply)
CasinoOfferWhere the bonus can be playedMegaways fit
CoralBet £10 on slots, get 100 free spins (10p each)Selected games listed on the promotionOnly if a Megaways title is on that list
LadbrokesPlay £10 on slots, get 50 free spins a day for 10 days (up to 500, 10p each)Selected games listed on the promotionOnly if a Megaways title is on that list
PlayOJO80 free spins on a first deposit of £10+Big Bass Bonanza (the original 5-reel game)No: not the Megaways version
Casumo50% up to £100, 10x wagering in 7 daysSlots, subject to game restrictionsPossible; check the excluded games list
10bet100% up to £25, 10x wagering on slots in 3 daysSlotsPossible; check the eligible games

So the honest answer is that a Megaways slot can sometimes be where a partner bonus gets played, but no partner has built an offer around one. If a site advertises "Megaways spins", the first thing to read is which single game they're on, because studios' Megaways titles behave very differently from each other.

How Megaways reels change what a bonus is worth

On a classic Megaways layout, each of six reels shows between two and seven symbols on every spin, and every adjacent left-to-right match counts as a way to win. Multiply the symbols on each reel and you get that spin's ways total. Some games add a horizontal reel above the main set, which can push the count higher.

How the ways count moves on a six-reel Megaways grid
Symbols on each reelCalculationWays that spin
2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 22 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 264
3, 4, 5, 3, 4, 53 × 4 × 5 × 3 × 4 × 53,600
5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 55 to the power of 615,625
6, 6, 6, 6, 6, 66 to the power of 646,656
7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 77 to the power of 6117,649

More ways doesn't mean better odds. The game's RTP already reflects every possible layout, and a bonus never changes it. What the shifting grid does change is the shape of results: long runs of small or no wins, broken by occasional large ones, especially in the free spins round where cascades and growing multipliers do the heavy lifting. That shape is called volatility, and it's the single most important thing to understand about using a bonus on these games.

Megaways slots compared for a bonus: RTP, volatility and top win

These figures come from published game specifications. Several of these slots also exist in lower-RTP versions, so the figure on the game's help screen at your casino is the one that applies.

Top wins are theoretical ceilings that very few spins ever approach, and an offer's own cap on bonus winnings can cut them further. For Extra Chilli, the published figure without the Feature Drop buy is up to 96.41%, which is the version relevant in Great Britain because feature buys aren't supplied to players here.

Megaways bonus maths: worked pound examples

RTP and house edge are long-run averages. Any one session can land far above or below them, and on high-volatility Megaways games the spread is wide. With that said, the averages tell you what a bonus costs or returns before luck takes over.

Free spins on a Megaways slot

Take 100 spins at 10p on a slot with 96.55% RTP. That's £10 of spins, which return about £9.66 on average. With no wagering, whatever lands is cash. If the same spins came with 10x wagering on their winnings, you'd need to wager around £96.60 more, and at a 3.45% house edge that would cost roughly £3.33 on average, leaving an expected £6.33 or so. The bigger risk is that many 100-spin batches on a very volatile game return only a couple of pounds, and some return nothing.

BonusWagering at 10xCost at 96% RTPCost at 95.77% RTPMinimum spins at £1

£50£500£20£21.15500
£100£1,000£40£42.301,000

The last column shows why time matters. UK slots must take at least 2.5 seconds per spin, so 1,000 spins at £1 means at least 42 minutes of continuous play, and more once you add the length of free spins rounds. A seven-day or three-day window is enough for that on paper. The problem is variance, not the clock: on a very volatile game the balance can hit zero long before the target, and then the bonus is simply gone. The same sums work for any bonus: multiply by ten, then by the house edge.

Megaways bonus wagering and game weighting

Game weighting, sometimes called the contribution percentage, decides how much of each stake counts towards wagering. Slots are normally the reference game at 100%, and Megaways slots are slots, so a £1 spin typically clears £1 of wagering. Table and live games are the usual ones set lower or excluded.

The catch is that weighting is set game by game, not category by category. Terms commonly carve out individual slots, for example ones with very high RTP or ones with jackpot features, and some Megaways titles carry jackpot add-ons. The terms or the bonus tab will list them. If a game isn't eligible, play on it may not count at all, and in some offers placing bets on an excluded game with bonus funds can lead to the bonus being removed. Our page on which games are excluded from bonuses explains the usual reasons.

Megaways bonus terms that matter most

Read these clauses first. Each one bites harder on a Megaways game than on a gentle low-volatility slot:

  • Max bet with an active bonus. Casumo's offer, for example, caps bets at £5 while the bonus is live. See our explainer on the casino bonus max bet rule.
  • Expiry. Short windows (three days at 10bet, seven at Casumo) leave less room for a cold run to recover. Our bonus expiry guide covers how deadlines work.
  • Cap on bonus winnings. A max-win clause (10bet's is £1,000) matters more on games built around rare large wins.
  • Selected games. For spin offers, the selected games list decides whether a Megaways slot is involved at all.
  • Excluded payment methods. Coral and Ladbrokes exclude several e-wallets and prepaid cards from their welcome offers; 10bet excludes Skrill and Neteller.

What UK Megaways bonus offers usually exclude

Beyond the game list, a few patterns recur in UK offer terms for bonuses that could be played on Megaways slots:

Advantages

  • Standard Megaways slots usually count at 100% where a bonus allows slots
  • No-wagering spin offers pay winnings as cash, which suits volatile games
  • Spin value is fixed (often 10p), so you know the exact stake

Drawbacks

  • Individual Megaways titles can be excluded, especially those with jackpot features
  • Feature buys aren't offered on slots at UK-licensed casinos, so the bonus round has to be triggered naturally
  • Short expiry plus high volatility raises the chance a bonus runs out before it clears

Some players compare Megaways games with steadier slots before choosing where to use a bonus. Our side-by-side of free spins on low and high volatility slots sets out the trade-off without suggesting either one beats the house edge.

UK rules that shape a Megaways bonus in 2026

Several Gambling Commission rules apply to every Megaways bonus offered to players in Great Britain:

UK rules and dates relevant to Megaways bonuses
RuleWhat it means for a Megaways bonusIn force
10x wagering capA £50 bonus can need no more than £500 of wagering19 January 2026
Mixed-product banNo "bet on football, get Megaways spins" offers19 January 2026

Slot design rulesNo autoplay, turbo or slam-stop; at least 2.5 seconds per spin31 October 2021
Age and ID checks firstYou must be verified before depositing or using a bonus7 May 2019

The wagering cap comes from social responsibility code 5.1.1, which you can read on the Gambling Commission's rewards and bonuses code page (opens in a new tab). The stake limits are explained in the Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab), which defines an online slot as a reel-based casino game played online. Megaways games clearly fit that description.

How to use a slot bonus on a Megaways game

  1. Read the offer page and full terms, noting the eligible games, minimum deposit, wagering, expiry, max bet and excluded payment methods.
  2. Check the bonus tab or game list to confirm the specific Megaways title is included and counts at 100%.
  3. Open the slot's help screen and note its RTP, since several Megaways games run in more than one version.
  4. Set a deposit limit you're comfortable with before you deposit; UK casinos prompt you to do this.
  5. Deposit with a qualifying method and opt in if the offer asks you to.
  6. Play at or below the max bet and your age-based stake limit, and watch your wagering progress in the bonus tab.
  7. Stop when you reach your limit, whatever the bonus balance shows; a bonus is never a reason to keep playing.

If a step fails, for example the spins don't appear, contact the casino's support before playing on.

Is a Megaways bonus worth it?

It can be, if the format suits the game. No-wagering spins sit well with Megaways volatility because a single good feature round becomes cash straight away. A deposit match with wagering, a short expiry and a max-win cap is a weaker fit, since the game's swings work against the deadline. Either way, the bonus doesn't change the game's odds, and the house edge applies to every pound wagered. If you're weighing which offer type suits slots generally, see which bonus is best for slots.

Where to play: partner slot offers and Megaways games

No partner offers a Megaways-specific bonus, so the boxes below show the closest slot offers. All are for new customers aged 18+ and terms apply.

  • Coral: deposit (certain types excluded) and bet £10+ on slots to get 100 free spins at 10p on selected games, with 48 hours to accept and 7 days to use them; no wagering on winnings. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't qualify. See Coral free spins.
  • Ladbrokes: deposit and spend £10+ on slots for 50 free spins a day over the first 10 days (up to 500, 10p each, selected games, claim by 23:59 each day, valid 7 days, no wagering). Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don't qualify. See Ladbrokes free spins.
  • PlayOJO: 80 free spins at 10p on Big Bass Bonanza after a first deposit of £10+, no wagering, excluding Northern Ireland. This is the original game, not the Megaways version. See PlayOJO free spins.

If you'd rather have bonus funds that could reach eligible Megaways slots, Casumo's 50% bonus and 10bet's 100% bonus are the deposit-match routes, each with 10x wagering and its own game restrictions.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Megaways bonus?

A Megaways bonus is a casino offer you can use on Megaways slots. It's usually free spins on a named Megaways game or bonus funds that are allowed on slots, including Megaways titles. There's no separate Megaways product; the offer's own terms decide which games count. Because Megaways slots are mostly high volatility, check the wagering, expiry and max-bet rules closely before you play. Our game weighting guide explains how each game type contributes to wagering, and why slots are usually the reference game at 100%.

Do Megaways slots count towards wagering requirements?

Usually yes, at 100%, where an offer allows slots. Megaways games are slots, so a £1 spin normally clears £1 of wagering. Terms can still exclude individual titles, often ones with jackpot features or unusually high RTP, and the bonus tab or terms will list them. Play on an excluded game might not count, and some offers remove the bonus if you use bonus funds there. Our page on contribution percentage shows how weighting is calculated, with worked figures.

Can I use free spins on Megaways slots?

Only if the offer names a Megaways slot or includes one in its selected games. Free spins are tied to specific games, and you can't move them to another title. Coral and Ladbrokes list their selected games on each promotion page, and PlayOJO's 80 spins are on the original Big Bass Bonanza rather than the Megaways version. For more detail, see our answer on using free spins on Megaways slots, which also covers what happens if the feature triggers during your spins.

Are Megaways slots good for clearing a bonus?

They're not a shortcut. Wagering cost depends on RTP, which on most Megaways games is in the same range as other slots, around 95.5% to 97%. What differs is volatility: big swings mean a bonus balance is more likely to run out before wagering is complete, particularly with a three- or seven-day expiry. No game choice beats the house edge, and £500 of wagering at 4% still costs about £20 on average. Our guide to how to calculate wagering requirements shows the sums.

What is the maximum bet with a Megaways bonus?

It's whichever is lower: the offer's max-bet rule or your legal stake limit. Casumo, for example, caps bets at £5 while a bonus is active. Separately, UK online slots are limited to £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds. So a 21-year-old with a £5 bonus max bet can still only stake £2 on a Megaways spin. Read our stake limits rule page for worked examples by age group.

Can I buy the bonus round on a Megaways slot in the UK?

No. Feature buys aren't offered on slots at UK-licensed casinos, so the free spins round on a Megaways game has to be triggered during normal play. That's why some games list two RTP figures: Extra Chilli's published RTP is up to 96.41% without Feature Drop, the version relevant in Great Britain. It also means a bonus can't be spent jumping straight to the feature. Our slot design rules page covers the related bans on autoplay and turbo spins.

How much are 100 free spins on a Megaways slot worth?

At 10p a spin, 100 spins are £10 of play. On a slot with 96.55% RTP they return about £9.66 on average over very many batches, but a single batch on a very volatile game can return far less, or much more if the feature lands well. With no wagering, winnings are cash; with wagering, take off the expected cost of meeting it. Our free spins value page works through more examples at different stakes.

Does a Megaways bonus have to follow the 10x wagering cap?

Yes. Since 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission's rules cap bonus wagering at 10 times the bonus for every promotion offered to players in Great Britain, whatever game it's used on. A £30 bonus can therefore require at most £300 of wagering. The cap doesn't cover deposits you make with your own money, which you can withdraw during bonus play. See our 10x wagering cap page for the background and dates.

Why do some casinos exclude certain Megaways slots from bonuses?

Casinos usually exclude games where the bonus maths or the jackpot structure doesn't suit their offer, for example titles with progressive jackpots attached or versions with especially high RTP. The rule must be set out clearly in the terms before you opt in; the Commission says operators can't ban a form of play that wasn't explained in advance. If a game you planned to use is missing from the list, choose another or skip the offer. Our why games are excluded answer goes further.

Is a no-wagering offer better for Megaways slots?

Often, because no-wagering spins turn whatever you win into cash straight away, so a volatile game's occasional large feature isn't then eroded by further wagering. The trade-off is that no-wagering offers are usually smaller and tied to fixed games at a fixed 10p stake. A deposit match gives more play but carries 10x wagering and an expiry. Our comparison of no wagering and low wagering lays out the differences in pounds.
