A casino match bonus adds bonus funds worth a set percentage of your deposit, such as 100% up to £25, so a £25 deposit gives £50 to play with. Since 19 January 2026, wagering on any such offer from a UK-licensed casino has been limited to 10x the bonus. Two of our partners run one: 10bet (100% up to £25) and Casumo (50% up to £100).
Every match bonus has two key numbers: the match percentage (the rate) and the cap (the most bonus you can get).
UK-licensed casinos can’t set wagering above 10x the bonus; 10bet and Casumo both use exactly 10x.
Expiry, maximum bet, game contribution, maximum win and payment exclusions decide the real value.
10bet suits deposits up to £25; Casumo suits deposits of £20 to £200; PlayOJO’s no-wagering spins are the simpler alternative (18+, terms apply).

What a casino match bonus is
A casino match bonus is a deposit offer where the casino adds bonus funds equal to a percentage of what you deposit. A 100% match doubles your deposit; a 50% match adds half of it again. The percentage is the match percentage, and the most you can receive is the bonus cap.
You will also see it called a deposit match, a deposit bonus or a first deposit bonus when it applies to your opening payment. It differs from free spins because you receive a pound balance rather than a set number of spins at a fixed value, and from cashback because it is paid up front on a deposit rather than after losses. Every match bonus is 18+ and comes with terms that matter as much as the headline.
How a casino match bonus works, step by step
You read the significant terms next to the offer: rate, cap, minimum deposit, wagering, expiry and exclusions.
You register and the casino verifies your age and identity before you can deposit.
You set a financial limit when prompted, then opt in or select the bonus if the terms require it.
You deposit with a qualifying payment method; the casino adds deposit × match rate, up to the cap.
The bonus sits in a bonus balance, shown separately from your own deposit balance.
You stake on eligible games within the maximum bet until the wagering is met, or the expiry passes.
Once wagering is complete, the remaining bonus balance becomes withdrawable cash, subject to any maximum win.
If you withdraw your deposit before finishing, the bonus is normally removed. The sign-up screens differ between casinos, but the order of these steps rarely changes.
Match percentage and cap: the two numbers in every headline
The rate tells you how fast the bonus grows; the cap tells you where it stops. Neither means much alone. The table shows what a £20 deposit would bring at each common rate, assuming the cap is high enough.

Each rate has its own guide: 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 150%, 200%, 300%, 400% and 500%. Rates above 100% are rare at UK-licensed casinos, for reasons covered under wagering below.
Casino match bonus wagering requirements in the UK
Wagering is the total you must stake before bonus funds turn into cash. Since 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission’s SR code 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab) has limited it to 10 times the bonus. The calculation is bonus × wagering multiple: a £25 bonus at 10x means £250 of staking.
The average cost of that staking is roughly the amount wagered times the house edge. At 96% RTP, the edge is about 4%, so £250 of wagering costs about £10 on average and £1,000 about £40. That average conceals big swings: some sessions end with the bonus gone well before the target, others above it.
The cap explains why large percentages have become rare. When 35x or more was common, the house edge on all the required play usually recovered the whole bonus. At 10x it recovers about 40% on a 96% RTP slot, so casinos have kept rates and caps modest. Our wagering requirements guide and the UK 10x wagering cap page cover the detail.
Sticky and non-sticky match bonuses
Terms decide how your deposit and bonus interact. With a non-sticky bonus, your deposit is played first; if you win while still on your own money, you can usually withdraw and give up the bonus. With a sticky bonus, the bonus can’t be withdrawn itself and is removed when you cash out, though its winnings may be.
Gambling Commission guidance doesn’t fix the order in which deposit and bonus funds are used, but it does require the two balances to be shown separately and your deposit balance to stay withdrawable. Each casino’s terms set the rest, so read how yours works before you play. Our sticky vs non-sticky bonus guide explains the two models side by side.
Game contribution, maximum bet and expiry
Game contribution: slots usually count 100% towards wagering; table and live games often count less or not at all. 10bet’s welcome bonus is wagered on slots.
Maximum bet: a per-bet limit while the bonus is active. Casumo sets £5. Legal slot stake limits of £5 (25+) and £2 (18–24) apply too, whichever is lower.
Expiry: the time allowed to finish wagering. 10bet allows 3 days and Casumo 7 days. Unfinished bonuses are removed at expiry.
Maximum win: some match bonuses cap what bonus play can pay out. 10bet caps bonus winnings at £1,000.
Breaking a clearly stated in-play rule can lead to the bonus and its winnings being removed, so it pays to check them first.
Payment methods that can block a casino match bonus
Welcome match bonuses often exclude some deposit methods, commonly e-wallets and prepaid cards. 10bet excludes Skrill and Neteller deposits from its welcome bonus. Casumo’s terms list game, play and payment restrictions, so check the cashier and the offer page before choosing a method.
Credit cards can’t be used for gambling in Great Britain at all, a ban in place since 14 April 2020 that also covers e-wallets funded by a credit card. A debit card is the method least likely to be excluded; our debit card casino bonus page explains why, including how its exclusions compare with e-wallets.

Up to £25, 10bet gives more bonus; from £50, Casumo does. 10bet’s shorter expiry means its wagering must be done faster. Our Casumo vs 10bet bonus page compares the two in full.
Casino match bonus or free spins?
Our other three partners offer spins instead of a match. Spins have a fixed value per spin, and all three of these offers pay winnings with no wagering. A match gives more flexible funds, but wagering applies.

Is a casino match bonus worth it?
It can be, if you were going to deposit anyway and the terms suit how you play. On a 96% RTP slot, the average cost of 10x wagering is about 40% of the bonus, but that is a long-run figure: individual results swing widely, and your deposit is exposed to the same house edge. A match bonus does not make gambling cheaper or safer overall.

Frequently asked questions
What is a casino match bonus?
It is a deposit offer where the casino adds bonus funds equal to a percentage of your deposit, up to a cap. A 100% match up to £25 turns a £25 deposit into £50 of play; a 50% match up to £100 turns £200 into £300. The bonus carries wagering, capped at 10x the bonus in Great Britain, plus rules on expiry, games and maximum bet. Our how do casino bonuses work answer covers the wider basics.
Which UK casinos offer a match bonus?
Among our partners, Casumo and 10bet do. Casumo offers 50% up to £100 on a first deposit of £20 or more, wagered 10x within 7 days; 10bet offers 100% up to £25, wagered 10x on slots within 3 days. Both are 18+ for new customers and full terms apply. Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO offer spins instead. Our welcome bonus page compares every partner’s sign-up deal.
How do I calculate a match bonus?
Multiply your deposit by the match rate, then check it against the cap. A £40 deposit at 50% gives £20; at 100% it gives £40, unless the cap is lower. To find the deposit that fills a cap, divide the cap by the rate: £100 ÷ 0.5 = £200. Then multiply the bonus by the wagering multiple to see the total staking. Our wagering calculator does all of this for you.
What is the maximum wagering on a match bonus in the UK?
Ten times the bonus, at any casino licensed by the Gambling Commission, since 19 January 2026. A £25 bonus can therefore require no more than £250 of staking, and a £100 bonus no more than £1,000. Offers can set lower wagering than this, but not higher. Before the cap, 35x or more was common. Our is 10x wagering good answer explains what the cap means in practice.
Is a 100% match better than a 50% match?
It gives more per pound, but the cap often matters more. On deposits up to £25, 10bet’s 100% match gives more bonus than Casumo’s 50%. From £50 upwards, Casumo’s higher cap means it gives more, up to £100 on a £200 deposit. Expiry differs too: 3 days at 10bet against 7 at Casumo. Our is a 50% bonus good answer looks at the smaller rate on its own.
Can I withdraw my deposit during a match bonus?
Yes. At a UK-licensed casino your deposit balance must stay withdrawable at any time, even with a bonus active, and wagering must not apply to it. Doing so usually cancels the bonus and any winnings linked to it. The casino must display your deposit and bonus balances separately. Our bonus withdrawal rules page explains what operators must allow and where those rules come from.
Which games count towards match bonus wagering?
That depends on the offer’s contribution table. Slots usually count in full, while roulette, blackjack and live games often count for less or are excluded. 10bet’s welcome bonus is wagered on slots. Playing a game that doesn’t count can mean your wagering doesn’t move, and staking on an excluded game can void the bonus. Our which games are excluded from bonuses answer lists common exclusions.
What is the difference between a match bonus and free spins?
A match bonus adds a pound balance based on your deposit, while free spins give a set number of spins at a fixed stake. Match bonuses usually carry wagering; our partners’ free spins offers don’t. For example, 10bet adds up to £25 of bonus with 10x wagering, while Coral gives 100 spins at 10p (£10 of spins) after a £10 slots bet, with no wagering on winnings. Our free spins vs deposit bonus comparison sets out the trade-offs.
Do I need a code for a casino match bonus?
Not with our partners. Casumo’s bonus needs an opt-in, and 10bet’s is chosen at sign-up; neither uses a promo code. Elsewhere, any code required should be shown with the offer’s significant terms. If a bonus doesn’t appear after you deposit, contact support before you start playing, so the issue can be fixed first. Our do casino bonuses need a code answer explains how claiming works today.
Does a match bonus make gambling cheaper?
No. A match bonus gives you more to play with, but wagering means more staking, and the house edge applies to every stake. Over time, losses remain likely, and the bonus does not change any game’s odds. Treat the deposit as the cost of your entertainment and only take a bonus if the terms suit how you already play. Our is gambling with a bonus safer answer explores this in more depth.
Can I claim a match bonus more than once?
Welcome match bonuses are usually limited to one per person, household or payment method, and the terms set the exact rule. Opening extra accounts to claim again breaks the terms and can lead to winnings being withheld and accounts closed. Existing customers may be offered reload matches later if they have opted in to marketing. Our can you claim two welcome bonuses answer explains the limits.
