Match percentage meaning

Match percentage meaning: the share of your deposit that a casino adds as bonus money. A 50% match on a £40 deposit adds £20; a 100% match on £25 adds £25. The figure always comes with an 'up to' limit, and above that limit the real rate falls, so the percentage alone tells you less than it seems.

Key takeaways

  • Bonus = deposit × match percentage, until the 'up to' limit is reached.
  • Above the limit, extra deposit adds no bonus, so the effective percentage drops.
  • The bonus, not the deposit, sets the wagering: at the UK cap that is no more than 10x the bonus.
  • A higher percentage with a low cap can be worth less than a lower percentage with a higher cap.
  • Casumo matches 50% up to £100 and 10bet matches 100% up to £25; 18+, terms apply.

Match percentage meaning and the basic formula

A deposit match bonus adds bonus funds in proportion to what you pay in. The match percentage is that proportion. At 100% the casino matches your deposit pound for pound; at 50% it adds half; at 25% it adds a quarter. The bonus appears as a separate bonus balance, and your deposit stays in your cash balance.

The sum is: bonus = deposit × match percentage, capped at the maximum bonus. That maximum is the bonus cap, shown as the 'up to £X' part of the headline. You'll find related definitions in our casino bonus glossary.

Match percentage examples with real offers

Two of our partners run deposit match offers. Casumo matches 50% up to £100 on a first deposit of at least £20. 10bet matches 100% up to £25 on a first deposit made within 7 days of choosing the casino offer. Here is what different deposits produce under each, including the effective rate once the cap applies.

*10bet's minimum qualifying deposit isn't listed in the offer details we hold, so check the promotion terms before depositing £20. The pattern is the useful part: a 100% match stops growing at £25, while a 50% match keeps growing until £200. Past each cap, the headline percentage no longer describes what you get.

How match percentage affects wagering and cost

Wagering is set on the bonus, so a bigger bonus means more required play. Since 19 January 2026, the 10x wagering cap has limited this to ten times the bonus. Both partner offers sit at that limit: Casumo's bonus must be wagered 10x within 7 days with a £5 maximum bet, and 10bet's 10x on slots within 3 days, with bonus winnings capped at £1,000.

The average cost of wagering is roughly the amount wagered times the house edge. At a 4% edge, Casumo's maximum £100 bonus needs £1,000 of play, costing about £40 on average; 10bet's £25 bonus needs £250, costing about £10. Those are long-run averages: a single session can lose the whole balance before wagering is done, or finish well ahead. Our wagering calculator runs the same sums for any figures.

Why a higher match percentage isn't always better

Headline percentages are easy to compare and easy to misread. Three questions matter more than the percentage itself:

  • How much will you actually deposit? A 100% match capped at £25 gives the same bonus on a £25 or a £250 deposit.
  • How long is the wagering window? Three days and seven days are very different amounts of play per day.
  • What are the max bet and max win? A max win or £5 bet limit shapes what the bonus can do.

Very high percentages such as a 200% deposit bonus are rare among UK-licensed casinos and none of our partners offers one. Lower rungs like a 25% deposit bonus or 150% deposit bonus each have their own page. For a side-by-side method, see how to compare deposit match offers.

UK rules on match percentage offers

Since 19 January 2026, LCCP social responsibility code 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab) has capped wagering at 10x and required clear, readily available incentive terms. Under CAP Code rule 8.17, adverts must state significant conditions such as deposit and wagering requirements; the ASA's guidance on free bets and bonuses (opens in a new tab) explains how that applies to a 'match' headline. A '100% bonus' shown without its cap or wagering would fall short.

Commission guidance also says deposit and bonus balances must be shown separately and that you can withdraw your deposit balance at any time, even with a match bonus active. Our page on bonus withdrawal rules covers that in detail.

Match percentage offers from our partners

Casumo: 50% bonus up to £100 on a first deposit of £20 or more, opt-in required, wager the bonus 10x within 7 days, max £5 per bet, with game, play and payment restrictions. 10bet: 100% up to £25, choose the casino offer at sign-up and deposit within 7 days, wager 10x on slots within 3 days, max bonus winnings £1,000, Skrill and Neteller excluded. Frequently asked questions

What does a 100% match bonus mean?

A 100% match means the casino adds bonus funds equal to your deposit, up to a stated limit. Deposit £25 into 10bet's 100% offer and you get a £25 bonus; deposit more and the bonus stays at £25, because that offer is capped there. The bonus must then be wagered, which at 10bet is 10x on slots within 3 days. It's a bonus with conditions, not extra cash. Our page asking is a 100 percent bonus good weighs it up.

Is a 50% match bonus worth less than a 100% match?

Not necessarily; it depends on the caps and how much you deposit. At £50, Casumo's 50% match gives £25 and 10bet's 100% match also gives £25. At £200, Casumo's gives £100 while 10bet's still gives £25. The 50% offer then needs more wagering, though: £1,000 against £250. Bigger bonuses mean more play at the house edge, so the right one depends on your budget. See is a 50 percent bonus good.

How do I calculate a match bonus?

Multiply your deposit by the match percentage, then check it against the maximum bonus. If the result is higher than the cap, the cap is what you get. For example, £80 at 50% gives £40; £300 at 50% would be £150, but with a £100 cap you receive £100. Next, multiply the bonus by the wagering multiple to see how much play it needs. The guide to how to calculate wagering requirements walks through more examples.

What is the effective match percentage?

It's the bonus you actually receive divided by what you deposited, once the cap is taken into account. Depositing £400 into a 50% match capped at £100 gives £100, which is an effective 25%. Depositing £100 into a 100% match capped at £25 gives an effective 25% as well. The effective figure is the honest way to compare offers when you plan to deposit more than the amount that reaches the cap. The page on big bonus vs small bonus explores this.

Does a higher match percentage mean higher wagering?

Only in the sense that a bigger bonus brings more wagering, because wagering is calculated on the bonus. Since 19 January 2026, no UK-licensed casino can set it above 10x the bonus. So a £100 bonus needs no more than £1,000 of play and a £25 bonus no more than £250, whatever the percentage that produced them. The page is 10x wagering good explains what that means in practice.

Can I withdraw my deposit before using the match bonus?

Yes. Gambling Commission guidance says you must be able to withdraw your deposit balance at any time, even while a bonus is active, and that wagering requirements can't be applied to your own money. Doing so will usually cancel the bonus and anything won with it, so check the terms first. The deposit itself can't be held back to force you to play through the bonus. Our guide to how withdrawals cancel bonuses explains the usual outcome.
