Big bonus vs small bonus is less about the headline figure and more about what each costs you to use. A large match such as Casumo’s up to £100 needs a £200 deposit and £1,000 of wagering in 7 days, while a small offer like Coral’s 100 spins at 10p needs a £10 bet and no wagering. This page compares the two per pound, per hour and per term.
A big bonus usually needs a big deposit: Casumo’s full £100 needs £200, while Coral’s £10 of spins needs a £10 slots bet.
Wagering grows with the bonus: £1,000 for Casumo’s full £100 against none for the partner spin offers.
Per pound deposited, small no-wagering offers often hold up well against big matches.
Only take a bigger offer if the deposit was already within your entertainment budget; never deposit more to reach a cap.

Big bonus vs small bonus: the short answer
A big bonus has more nominal value, but it usually asks for a larger deposit, more wagering and more time. A small bonus offers less, yet often costs less to use and is easier to finish. Which is better depends on how much you had already planned to spend, not on the size of the number in the advert.
Among our partners, the biggest headline offers are Casumo’s 50% match up to £100 and Ladbrokes’ up to 500 free spins. The smaller ones are 10bet’s 100% match up to £25, Coral’s 100 free spins and PlayOJO’s 80 free spins. The compare hub lines them all up; this page asks what the extra size really buys.
What “big” really means in a casino bonus
Size can mean three different things, and each one hides a condition.
A high cap. “Up to £100” is a ceiling, not a gift. At Casumo’s 50% rate you reach it only with a £200 deposit; a £40 deposit brings £20. Our bonus cap entry explains how caps work.
A high percentage. A 100% match doubles a deposit, but 10bet’s stops at £25. A high match percentage with a low cap can be smaller than a modest percentage with a high one.
A high spin count. Ladbrokes’ 500 spins are paid as 50 a day for 10 days, so the full number depends on claiming every day.
Read every “up to” as “at most”. The high roller bonus page covers offers at the far end of the scale, where these conditions become heavier still.
Big bonus vs small bonus: value per pound deposited
A fair way to compare sizes is to ask how much value each pound of qualifying spend buys, after the average cost of any wagering. We use a 4% house edge for the wagering cost, which is wagering total × 4%; it is a long-run average, not a forecast.

The biggest cash bonus gives the lowest return per pound deposited, because a 50% match buys less per pound than a fixed batch of spins bought with £10. Ladbrokes’ 500 spins are the standout on paper, but only for someone who claims all 10 days. The deposit itself is still your money and is exposed to the house edge as you play it.

This table follows Casumo’s 50% up to £100 across different first deposits. Note how the bonus stops growing at £200 while the deposit can keep rising.

Never raise a deposit to hit a cap. The extra money is still gambled at the house edge, and the bonus does not change the long-run cost of play.
The time cost of a big bonus
Wagering is measured in stakes, and stakes take time. UK online slots must take at least 2.5 seconds per spin, and autoplay is not allowed, so every spin is a separate press.
£1,000 of wagering at £1 a spin is 1,000 spins: at least 42 minutes of non-stop spinning, and in practice much longer.
The same £1,000 at 50p a spin is 2,000 spins: at least 83 minutes.
£250 of wagering at £1 a spin is 250 spins: at least about 10 minutes.
Free spins with no wagering need only the spins themselves: 100 spins take a few minutes.
Casumo gives 7 days for its wagering and 10bet gives 3. Raising stakes to finish faster raises the swings in your balance and does not lower the expected cost, which stays at roughly 4% of the total staked on a 96% RTP slot. Our guide to how to clear a bonus covers deadlines and progress tracking.
UK limits that affect big bonuses more than small ones
Several 2025–2026 rules bite harder on large offers.
Slot stake limits: £5 per spin for players aged 25+ (from 9 April 2025) and £2 for 18–24s (from 21 May 2025), per the Commission’s stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab). Casumo’s £5 max bet sits on top; for an 18–24-year-old the £2 limit applies.
Financial vulnerability checks (since 28 February 2025): the LCCP condition 3.4.4 (opens in a new tab) requires light-touch checks when net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days. A £200 deposit to reach Casumo’s cap crosses that line.
Financial limit prompt (since 31 October 2025): you are asked to set a deposit limit before your first deposit.

How to size a bonus to your budget
Decide what you can afford to spend on entertainment this month and set a deposit limit at that level.
Find the deposit each offer needs for its full value, and drop any offer that needs more than your limit.
Work out the wagering: bonus × multiple. Multiply by about 4% for the average cost.
Convert the wagering into spins at your usual stake and compare it with the deadline.
Check payment exclusions, the max bet and any winnings cap.
Pick the offer that fits inside your budget, even if it is the smaller one.

Frequently asked questions
Is a bigger casino bonus always better?
No, a bigger bonus usually needs a bigger deposit and more wagering, so it is only better if that deposit was already in your budget. Casumo’s full £100 needs £200 deposited and £1,000 of wagering within 7 days. Coral’s 100 spins need a £10 slots bet and carry no wagering. Per pound spent, the small offer returns more on average. See is a casino bonus worth it for the full maths.
What is the biggest welcome bonus at your partners?
By cash value it is Casumo’s 50% match up to £100, which needs a first deposit of £200 to reach in full. By spin count it is Ladbrokes’ up to 500 free spins at 10p, worth up to £50, paid as 50 a day for 10 days. Both are for new customers aged 18+, and full terms apply. Our best bonus for 50 pounds page compares the offers at a mid-sized budget.
Does a big bonus mean more wagering?
Yes, because wagering is a multiple of the bonus, the total rises with the bonus. At 10x, a £10 bonus needs £100 of stakes and a £100 bonus needs £1,000. The 10x cap from 19 January 2026 limits the multiple but not the size of the bonus, so a large bonus still means a lot of play. Offers with no wagering, such as our partners’ spins, avoid this. See how to calculate wagering requirements.
Should I deposit more to get the full bonus?
No, only deposit what you had already planned to spend. Depositing extra to reach a cap means gambling more money at the house edge, and the bonus doesn’t change the long-run cost of play. If £50 is your limit, Casumo’s match gives £25 at that level, which is fine. Set a deposit limit before you start. The deposit limit rules page explains the tools UK casinos must offer.
Why do big bonuses trigger financial checks?
They don’t trigger them directly, but a large qualifying deposit can. Since 28 February 2025 UK operators must carry out light-touch financial vulnerability checks when net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days. A £200 deposit to reach Casumo’s cap crosses that threshold. These checks use public information and are not the same as full affordability checks. See how affordability checks affect bonuses.
How long does it take to clear a £100 bonus?
At 10x, a £100 bonus needs £1,000 of stakes, which at £1 a spin is 1,000 spins. With UK slots limited to one spin every 2.5 seconds, that is at least 42 minutes of continuous play, and usually much longer. Casumo allows 7 days. Higher stakes finish sooner but make your balance swing more without reducing the average cost. Read how long should a bonus last.
Are small no-wagering bonuses worth having?
Often yes, if you want a short, simple offer. Coral’s 100 spins at 10p are £10 of play with no wagering on winnings, and at a 96% RTP they return about £9.60 on average in cash. PlayOJO’s 80 spins are £8 of play on Big Bass Bonanza. Neither needs extra play to release winnings. They still carry qualifying deposits and terms. See what is a good free spins offer.
Do under-25s get less from a big bonus?
They get the same bonus, but the £2 online slot stake limit for 18 to 24-year-olds makes large wagering targets slower to complete. Casumo’s max bet is £5, but the legal £2 limit applies first for younger players. Clearing £1,000 of wagering at £2 a spin takes at least 500 spins. Small, wager-free offers avoid this issue. See can under 25s claim bonuses for more.
Is 500 free spins bigger than a £100 bonus?
No, by face value £100 is bigger: 500 spins at 10p are £50 of play. But Ladbrokes’ 500 spins need only a £10 slots spend and have no wagering, while Casumo’s £100 needs a £200 deposit and £1,000 of wagering. On expected value per pound spent, the spins come out well ahead, provided you claim all 10 days. Compare them on 500 vs 100 free spins.
Does a big bonus have a bigger max win?
Not necessarily; winnings caps are set in the terms and don’t always rise with the bonus. 10bet caps bonus winnings at £1,000 on a £25 bonus. Spins also have the slot’s own maximum: Big Bass Bonanza lists a max win of 2,100x the stake, which is £210 on a 10p spin. Check any offer’s terms for a cap before you play. Our free spins max win page explains the different limits.
