Bonus terms 2025 vs 2026 differ most on wagering: in 2025 there was no legal ceiling, while since 19 January 2026 UK-licensed casinos can't ask you to play bonus funds through more than 10 times. The same date banned offers mixing products, such as a football bet that releases casino spins. Stake limits, marketing opt-ins and deposit limit prompts arrived during 2025. 18+, terms apply.
Wagering: no legal cap in 2025; a maximum of 10x the bonus since 19 January 2026.
Mixed sports-and-casino offers were allowed in 2025 and banned from 19 January 2026.
Slot stake limits (£5 for 25+, £2 for 18 to 24s) and per-product marketing opt-ins arrived in spring 2025.
Your right to withdraw your own deposit and see significant terms up front did not change.

Bonus terms 2025 vs 2026: what actually changed
If you last read casino bonus terms in 2025, three things will look different now. The wagering multiple has a ceiling. Welcome offers no longer bundle sports and casino together. And the surrounding account rules, from stake limits to deposit limit prompts, are tighter. Most of these came from the Gambling Commission's package of changes following the 2023 white paper, and most landed in a run between January 2025 and January 2026.
This page compares the two years clause by clause, with dates, so you can tell whether a term you have seen is current. It sits with our other bonus comparisons, and our page on bonus terms after January 2026 covers the current position on its own.

Wagering in 2025 vs 2026: from no ceiling to 10x
The headline change is in LCCP social responsibility code 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab): since 19 January 2026 a licensee can't require a customer to play through bonus funds more than 10 times. In 2025, multiples of 30x or more were still permitted. The difference on a £20 bonus, costed at a 4% house edge (a 96% RTP slot), looks like this.
A £20 bonus under a 2025-style 40x term and the 2026 10x cap
Sports-and-casino combo offers: allowed in 2025, gone in 2026
In 2025 an operator could still say, in effect, "bet £10 on football and get casino spins". From 19 January 2026, an incentive can't include more than one type of gambling product: betting, casino, bingo or lottery. That is why sign-up pages now ask you to pick a sports or a casino welcome offer, and why 10bet's terms say you choose the casino welcome bonus at sign-up. Our pages on the mixed-product promotion ban and the sports or casino welcome offer choice explain the effect.
The same rewrite deleted an older clause saying a benefit's value must not depend on gambling for a pre-determined length of time or frequency, and a proposed replacement about excessive intensity of gambling was dropped. What carried over is the rule that a casino can't alter or increase an incentive because the qualifying spend was reached sooner than the full offer period. See time-based incentive rules for how this is described in the code.
Stake limits that arrived part-way through 2025
Before April 2025, the only cap on your bet during a bonus was the bonus's own max-bet term. Then a legal limit arrived on all online slots: £5 per game cycle for players aged 25 and over from 9 April 2025, and £2 for players aged 18 to 24 from 21 May 2025, as set out in the Commission's stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab). Bonus max-bet rules now sit on top. Casumo's £5 per bet with an active bonus, for example, matches the legal cap for over-25s, but a 22-year-old is held to £2 regardless. Read more on online slot stake limits.
Deposit limits, financial checks and marketing consent
28 February 2025: financial vulnerability checks now start when net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days (down from £500). See financial vulnerability checks.
1 May 2025: casinos must let you opt in to marketing per product (betting, casino, bingo) and per channel (email, SMS, phone), opt-out by default. See marketing consent rules.
30 September 2026: deadline (extended from 30 June 2026) for operators to offer gross deposit limits; only gross limits may be called deposit limits.
Credit-reference "affordability checks" are not live in either year. The Commission ran a pilot of financial risk assessments and, as of October 2026, has made no decision to bring them in.
What stayed the same between 2025 and 2026
Several protections that matter most when you hold a bonus were already in place before 2025 and carry on unchanged:
You can withdraw your own deposit balance at any time, even with a bonus active, without meeting wagering first. Our CMA bonus principles page traces this to the 2018 undertakings.
Significant terms such as wagering, deadlines and eligibility must appear with the offer, not only in the small print.
Unfair terms are not binding on you under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Credit cards can't be used to gamble (since 14 April 2020); see the credit card ban.
Age and identity must be verified before you deposit or play, including with a bonus.

Checking whether a bonus term is from 2025 or 2026
Look for the offer's start date in the terms. Ladbrokes' current offer, for example, runs from 14 November 2025 until further notice; Coral's runs from 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027.
Check the wagering multiple. Anything above 10x on bonus funds at a UK-licensed casino points to pre-2026 terms or a non-UK site.
Check whether the offer mixes products. A sports bet that releases casino spins can't be offered to new sign-ups now.
Open the operator's live promotion page rather than relying on a screenshot or an old article.
If a licensed operator's current terms seem to break the 2026 rules, ask support to explain in writing, then use the complaints route if needed.

Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest difference in bonus terms between 2025 and 2026?
The wagering cap. In 2025 there was no legal limit on how many times a bonus had to be played through, and multiples of 30x or more were permitted. Since 19 January 2026, licensed operators can't require bonus funds to be played through more than 10 times. On a £20 bonus that means no more than £200 of wagering. The same date banned offers mixing products. Our 10x wagering cap page explains how the rule is worded.
Can I still get a bet-and-get offer that gives casino spins for a sports bet?
No, not from a UK-licensed operator since 19 January 2026. The mixed-product ban means a single incentive can't include more than one type of gambling product, so a sports bet can't release casino spins and a casino deposit can't release a free bet. Operators now ask you to choose a sports or casino welcome offer at sign-up. Within casino, offers like Coral's 100 spins after a £10 slots bet are allowed. See mixed-product promotion ban.
Do 2025 bonus terms still apply if I claimed before January 2026?
The rules took effect from 19 January 2026, and the Commission's code applies to incentives offered from then. How a bonus claimed in 2025 was treated afterwards depended on its terms, and most welcome bonuses expire within days anyway. Partner deadlines now run from 3 days (10bet) to 7 days (Casumo). If an old bonus is still showing in your account, ask the casino which terms apply. Our page on bonus terms after January 2026 has more.
When did online slot stake limits start?
During 2025. The £5 per spin limit for players aged 25 and over began on 9 April 2025, and the £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24 began on 21 May 2025. Both apply to every online slot spin, with or without a bonus, and a bonus's own max-bet term sits on top of them. Other casino games such as roulette and blackjack are not covered. Read our online slot stake limits page for how a game cycle is defined.
Did free spins terms change between 2025 and 2026?
Less than matched bonuses did. Wager-free spins, like Coral's 100 spins, Ladbrokes' up to 500 and PlayOJO's 80, had no wagering to cap. Spins tied to a sports bet are no longer allowed under the mixed-product ban. If spin winnings are paid as bonus funds with wagering, the 10x ceiling applies to playing those funds through. See free spins wagering explained for how spin winnings are treated.
Are affordability checks part of the 2026 bonus rules?
No. Credit-reference financial risk assessments were piloted but are not live, and as of October 2026 the Commission has made no decision to introduce them. What does apply is the financial vulnerability check, a public-record search triggered when net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days, a threshold in force since 28 February 2025. Operators must also stop new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of harm. Our financial vulnerability checks page explains both.
Why do casinos now ask me to set a deposit limit first?
Because since 31 October 2025 operators must prompt every new customer to set a financial limit before their first deposit, with setting a limit as the default and opting out needing confirmation. Existing customers without limits had to be prompted too. This applies whether or not you claim a bonus. A limit you lower takes effect immediately. Our guide on how to set deposit limits shows where to find the setting at each partner casino.
Did the 2026 tax rise change bonuses for players?
Not directly. Remote gaming duty, paid by operators on their profits, rose from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026. Players still pay no tax on gambling winnings. Operators may respond to higher costs in various ways, but the rules on wagering, terms and withdrawals are set separately by the Commission. Any change to an offer you have already opted in to must meet the fairness rules. See remote gaming duty and are casino bonuses taxable.
What bonus protections were the same in 2025 and 2026?
The core consumer protections. You can withdraw your own deposit balance at any time during a bonus without meeting wagering first; significant terms must be shown with the offer; operators can't keep sole discretion to decide when play breaks the terms; unfair terms are not binding; and identity must be verified before play. These come from the CMA undertakings, Commission guidance and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Our bonus withdrawal rules page sets out the deposit rule.
Where can I get help if a bonus is affecting my gambling?
The National Gambling Helpline, run by GamCare, is free and open 24/7 on 0808 8020 133. GAMSTOP lets you block all GB-licensed gambling sites for six months to five years, and many banks offer gambling blocks on debit cards. Operators must stop offering new bonuses to customers who show strong signs of harm. Our safer gambling page lists support services, including NHS gambling clinics and Gamblers Anonymous.
Gambling can be addictive. Free, confidential help is available 24 hours a day from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. Visit GamCare.org.uk and GamCare, or block yourself from all UK-licensed gambling sites with GAMSTOP.
