A top up bonus is extra bonus money or free spins that a casino adds when an existing customer deposits again, topping up the balance after the welcome offer has been used. None of the five partner welcome offers we list works this way, so this page explains how top-up deals are built, what one is worth under the 10x wagering cap and which real offers come closest. 18+, terms apply.
A top up bonus rewards a later deposit, usually as a percentage match with a cap.
Since 19 January 2026, wagering on bonus funds in Great Britain can't exceed 10x the bonus.
A 50% top-up of £25 at 10x needs £250 of play, which costs about £10 on average at a 4% house edge.
None of our partners' welcome offers is a top-up; check each promotions page for existing-customer deals.
A top-up offer arrives just as you're deciding whether to deposit again, so check your limits first.

What a top up bonus is
The phrase covers any reward a casino pays when you add money to an account you already have. The most common version is a percentage match on a second, third or later deposit, for example "top up £40 on Friday and get a 25% bonus up to £10". Some casinos call the same thing a reload bonus, and a few attach free spins instead of bonus funds. It sits in our wider guide to types of casino bonus alongside cashback, prize games and loyalty schemes.
The key difference from a welcome bonus is timing. A welcome offer is a one-off for a new account; a top-up offer is aimed at someone who has already played, often after a quiet spell. That makes it a retention tool, and it's worth reading with that in mind: the casino's aim is your next deposit.
You'll also see "top up" used for paying by mobile, where a deposit is added to your phone bill. That's a payment method, not a bonus, and it has its own exclusions; our pay by phone casino bonus page covers whether those deposits qualify.
Plain answer first: none of the welcome offers from Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo or 10bet is a top up bonus. Casumo's and 10bet's matches apply to the first deposit only, and PlayOJO's help page says deposit-based offers can be used once unless stated otherwise.
How a casino top up bonus works, step by step
Most top-up offers follow the same sequence. Missing a step is the usual reason a bonus never appears, so it helps to know the order before you deposit.
Find the offer on the promotions page or in a message you've agreed to receive, and open the full terms.
Opt in if the terms ask you to. Under Gambling Commission guidance players must choose to join a promotion rather than be enrolled automatically.
Check the qualifying deposit: the minimum amount, the date window and any excluded payment methods.
Deposit with a method that qualifies. The bonus is then calculated as a percentage of that deposit, up to the cap.
Look for the bonus in a separate bonus balance. Your own cash and bonus funds must be shown apart.
Play through the bonus within the wagering limit and time window, keeping to the maximum bet and eligible games.
Once wagering is complete, any remaining bonus balance converts to withdrawable cash, subject to any cap on bonus winnings.
Top up bonus maths: three worked examples
The headline percentage tells you little on its own. What matters is the size of the bonus, how much play the wagering requirements demand, and what that play costs on average. On a slot with a 96% RTP, the house edge is 4%, so every £100 staked costs about £4 over the long run.

Three things the table doesn't show. First, these are long-run averages; a single session can end with the bonus gone after a few spins or well ahead. Second, your own deposit is played at the same house edge, so the top-up doesn't make gambling cheaper overall. Third, a lower-RTP game raises the cost: at 94% RTP the edge is 6%, and the £250 of wagering in the middle row would cost about £15, leaving roughly £10 of average value.
You can test other combinations with our wagering calculator, and the expected value of a casino bonus guide explains the method in more detail.

Top up bonus terms to read line by line
Top-up offers tend to come with shorter, more compressed terms than welcome bonuses, sometimes in an email or app banner. Read these lines before depositing:
Match and cap: 50% up to £25 means a £50 top-up earns the full £25; topping up £100 still earns £25.
Minimum top-up: deposits below it earn nothing, even if the rest of the terms are met.
Wagering: must be no more than 10x the bonus in Great Britain. Check whether it's on the bonus only.
Order of play: whether your cash or the bonus is used first changes when you can withdraw. See how bonus funds and cash are used.
Maximum bet: a max bet rule such as £5 per spin while the bonus is active.
Eligible games and weighting: table games often count for less or nothing.
Time limits: both a claim window and a period to finish wagering.
Payment exclusions: e-wallets and prepaid cards are excluded from many offers; see how payment exclusions work.
Cap on winnings: some bonuses limit what bonus play can convert to cash.
Our clause-by-clause guide to bonus terms goes through each of these in more depth.
UK rules that shape top-up offers in 2026
Several Gambling Commission rules apply directly to a top up bonus offered to British players. The biggest is the 10x wagering cap: since 19 January 2026, the social responsibility code at LCCP 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab) says bonus funds can't be required to be played through more than ten times. The Commission's own example of the old position was a £10 bonus at 50x needing £500 of play; at 10x it's £100.
The same change, announced in the Commission's news on safer and simpler promotions (opens in a new tab), banned offers that mix gambling products, so a casino top-up can't come bundled with a sports free bet. Separately, the code still says a casino can't alter or increase a top-up because you reached the qualifying spend sooner than the full offer period; our page on time-based incentive rules explains how that works.
Older consumer-law protections still apply. Under the principles set after the CMA's 2018 work, you can withdraw your own deposit balance at any time, even with a bonus active, and wagering can't be imposed on your own money. Our page on CMA bonus principles covers the detail.

When a top up offer is a reason to pause
A top-up offer is designed to arrive when you might not otherwise deposit. That's the moment your own limits matter most. Gambling is paid entertainment, losses are the likely outcome over time, and no bonus changes a game's odds.
If the offer lands after a losing session, treat it as a prompt to stop rather than a reason to go again. Chasing losses with bonus money is still chasing losses.
Check that the top-up fits inside the deposit limit you set. Our guide on how to set deposit limits shows where to find them.
If you'd rather not receive these messages, you can withdraw consent for each channel; see how to stop bonus emails.
Operators must stop marketing and new bonus take-up for customers showing strong signs of harm. If offers suddenly stop, that may be why. Free, confidential help is available from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, run 24/7 by GamCare (opens in a new tab), and you can block all GB-licensed sites through GAMSTOP. Our guide to when to say no to a bonus lists more warning signs.
Do our partner casinos offer a top up bonus?
Not as a welcome offer. Each partner's sign-up deal is tied to a first deposit or a first slots bet, and none publishes a standing top-up in the terms we checked on 5 October 2026. Existing-customer promotions change often and aren't in our checked data, so look at each promotions page.
Partner welcome offers and whether they're a top-up
PlayOJO takes a different route for regular players: OJOplus pays money back on every game played with no wagering, explained in our OJOplus guide. It isn't a deposit match, but it rewards ongoing play without a new deposit trigger.
Is a top up bonus worth it?
On paper, a top-up at 10x wagering usually has a positive average value for the bonus part alone, as the worked examples show. In practice, the answer depends on whether you were going to deposit anyway.
Advantages
Wagering is capped at 10x the bonus in Great Britain, so the play needed is far lower than before 2026.
Your own deposit stays withdrawable at any time, even with the bonus active.
A small top-up with a small bonus is easy to understand and finish within the time limit.
Drawbacks
It's designed to prompt a deposit you might not have made.
Max bet, game limits and expiry still apply until wagering is finished.
The house edge applies to your deposit and the bonus, so overall cost doesn't fall.
For a broader view on whether any bonus earns its place, see is a casino bonus worth it.
Top up bonus alternatives from our partners
Because none of our partners lists a top up bonus as its welcome deal, the honest comparison is with offers that ask for one modest stake and add value afterwards. All are for adults aged 18+ and terms apply.
Ladbrokes comes closest in spirit: deposit and spend £10 or more on slots and you can get 50 free spins a day for the first 10 days, up to 500 in total, at 10p each (up to £50 of spins). Each day's spins must be claimed before 23:59 and are valid for 7 days, on selected games, with no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don't qualify.
Coral asks for a deposit and a £10 slots bet, then gives 100 free spins at 10p (£10 of spins) on selected games, with 48 hours to accept and 7 days to use them and no wagering on winnings. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't qualify. Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so read the terms before opening accounts at both; our sister site bonus rules page explains why.
PlayOJO gives 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p (£8 of spins) on a first deposit of at least £10, for new UK customers outside Northern Ireland. Winnings are paid as cash with no wagering, and the offer can't be combined with others. Compare all three on our free spins hub.
None of these is a top up bonus: they're new-customer offers tied to a first deposit or a first £10 of slots play. They're shown because they're the nearest real, current alternatives, with no wagering on spin winnings. 18+, terms apply.
Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open a new account with another; check the terms before signing up.

Frequently asked questions
What is a top up bonus at a casino?
A top up bonus is a reward paid when an existing customer deposits again, usually a percentage of that deposit up to a cap, such as 25% up to £20. It may come as bonus funds or as free spins. The offer normally needs an opt-in, a minimum deposit within a set window and a qualifying payment method. Any bonus funds then carry wagering of no more than 10x in Great Britain. See our reload bonus guide for the same idea under its other common name.
Is a top up bonus the same as a reload bonus?
In practice, yes: both terms describe a bonus paid on a deposit after your first. Casinos choose the name that fits their branding, and the mechanics are the same, with a match percentage, a cap, wagering and a time limit. A few sites use "top up" for a one-off offer and "reload" for a weekly one, but there's no fixed rule. Read the terms rather than the label. Our welcome bonus vs reload bonus comparison shows how later-deposit offers differ from sign-up deals.
What wagering can a UK top up bonus have?
No more than 10x the bonus amount, under a Gambling Commission rule in force since 19 January 2026. A £20 top-up bonus can therefore require at most £200 of qualifying play before it converts to cash. Lower wagering, or none, is allowed. Game weighting can still make the real amount of play higher if you use games that count for less than 100%. Our is 10x wagering good page puts the cap in context with worked figures.
Is a top up bonus worth taking?
It can be, if you were going to deposit anyway and the terms are simple. At 10x wagering and a 4% house edge, a £25 bonus costs about £10 of expected losses to clear, leaving about £15 of average value, though any one session can go either way. It isn't worth it if the offer is the reason you're depositing, or if the deposit would break your budget. Our when to say no to a bonus guide covers that judgement.
Do Coral or Ladbrokes give top up bonuses?
Their welcome offers aren't top-ups. Coral gives 100 free spins at 10p after a deposit and a £10 slots bet, and Ladbrokes gives up to 500 spins over 10 days after a £10 slots spend, both with no wagering on winnings and both for new customers aged 18+. Offers for existing customers change and aren't part of our checked terms, so look at each promotions page. Start with Coral offers for existing customers.
Can I withdraw my deposit while a top up bonus is active?
Yes. Under consumer-law principles enforced since 2018 and the Commission's guidance, you must be able to withdraw your own deposit balance at any time, even when a bonus is pending or active. Wagering must not be imposed on your own money. Withdrawing may cancel the bonus itself, and the terms should say so clearly. Our page on whether you can withdraw your deposit with a bonus active explains what happens to each balance.
Can I use PayPal or Skrill for a top up bonus?
Often not. Many UK casinos exclude e-wallets and prepaid cards from deposit offers, and our partners' welcome terms exclude PayPal, Skrill, Neteller and Paysafe at Coral and Ladbrokes, and Skrill and Neteller at 10bet. A top-up offer has its own terms, so the exclusions may differ, but checking is essential before you deposit. A debit card is the method most offers accept. See why PayPal deposits are excluded for the reasons casinos give.
Why have my top up offers stopped arriving?
There are a few common reasons. You may have withdrawn marketing consent for that channel, which you can do separately for email, text and phone since 1 May 2025. You might have set a limit or taken a break. Operators must also stop marketing and new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of harm. If you're worried about your gambling, the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 is free and open 24/7. Our bonuses and harm indicators page explains that rule.
Is a mobile phone top up deposit eligible for a bonus?
Sometimes, but check first. Paying by mobile adds the deposit to your phone bill or credit and has lower limits than cards. Whether it qualifies for a deposit bonus depends entirely on the offer's payment terms, and some offers exclude it. None of our partners' welcome terms names pay by phone as a qualifying method, so look in the cashier and the offer's exclusions list. Our pay by phone casino bonus page has more on this method.
How long does a top up bonus last?
Two clocks usually run. There's a claim window, the dates during which your deposit must be made, and a validity period for finishing the wagering, often a few days to a month. If the time runs out, the remaining bonus and any winnings from it are normally removed, while your own cash stays yours. The terms must state both periods clearly. Our bonus expiry guide shows how to read these dates and what happens when one passes.
Gambling can be addictive. Free, confidential help is available 24 hours a day from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. Visit GamCare.org.uk and GamCare, or block yourself from all UK-licensed gambling sites with GAMSTOP.
