An automatic bonus is one the casino credits as soon as you meet its condition, with no promo code to type. In the UK, though, "automatic" describes the crediting, not the agreement: you still choose the offer, through a sign-up option, offer link or acceptance step. None of our five partners needs a code; PlayOJO's 80 spins, for example, land after a qualifying first deposit made through its offer link.
Automatic means no code: the bonus is added once you qualify, but you still choose the offer first.
UK fair-terms guidance expects players to opt in to promotions rather than be enrolled without being asked.
None of our partners uses a promo code; each credits its welcome offer after a qualifying deposit or bet.
The most common reason an automatic bonus doesn't appear is an excluded payment method.
An automatic bonus still has terms: wagering of up to 10x, a max bet, eligible games and expiry.

What is an automatic bonus at a UK casino?
Put simply, it's a promotion the casino adds to your account by itself once a condition is met: a first deposit of a set size, a qualifying bet on slots, reaching a level in a rewards scheme. There's nothing to type and no code to find. The term is mostly used in contrast with casino bonus codes, where the code is the trigger.
It's a description of mechanics, not of value. An automatic bonus can be generous or poor, with or without wagering, and the same terms apply as with any other offer. Related formats are listed on our types of casino bonus hub, and the closest glossary term is auto claim.
Automatic credit vs automatic enrolment
This is the distinction that matters in the UK. Automatic crediting, where the bonus appears without a code once you qualify, is common and fine. Automatic enrolment, where you're placed in a promotion and bound by its terms without having chosen it, is a different matter: guidance on fair promotional terms expects players to opt in to a promotion rather than be signed up without being asked.
That's why even the most hands-off UK welcome offers involve some act of choice: joining through a specific offer link, choosing the casino offer at sign-up, accepting spins when they appear, or claiming them each day. The bonus then credits automatically. The Gambling Commission's guide to fair and transparent terms and practices (opens in a new tab) sets out what players should expect, and our opt in bonus page covers the choosing side in detail.

Common automatic bonus triggers
Most automatic bonuses fire on one of a handful of events. The trigger tells you what you must do and, just as importantly, what could stop it working.

What can stop it
First deposit
PlayOJO's 80 spins after a £10+ first deposit

Bet on non-slot games, excluded payment method
Spend over time
Ladbrokes' daily spins after a £10 slots spend

How an automatic bonus reaches your account, step by step
Using PlayOJO's welcome offer as the example, this is the sequence from first click to spins in your account.
Open the offer through PlayOJO's designated offer link; the terms say the offer is only available that way.
Register, confirm you're 18 or over and complete identity verification, which UK casinos must carry out before you deposit or play.
Set a deposit limit when prompted; since 31 October 2025 you're asked before your first deposit.
Make a first deposit of at least £10 using a method that qualifies.
The 80 spins are credited for Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each (£8 of spins).
Open the game from the Rewards area and play the spins before the deadline shown.
Winnings are paid as cash with no wagering.
Big Bass Bonanza has a published RTP of 96.71%, so 80 × 10p = £8 of spins returns about £7.74 on average. That's an average across many sessions; your own 80 spins could return nothing or much more. Northern Ireland is excluded. See our Big Bass Bonanza free spins page for the slot's details.
Why an automatic bonus might not appear
When a bonus is meant to be automatic and nothing turns up, the cause is usually one of these. Work down the list before contacting support.
Not typing a code doesn't mean there are no conditions. Once credited, an automatic bonus carries the same kinds of terms as any other, and UK rules say the significant ones must be clear before you take part. The ASA's guidance on free bets and bonuses (opens in a new tab) lists eligibility, deposit or wagering requirements and time limits among them.
Wagering: none on our partners' spin offers; 10x the bonus at Casumo and 10bet, the legal maximum since 19 January 2026.
Max bet: £5 per bet with an active bonus at Casumo; legal slot limits of £5 (25+) and £2 (18–24) apply everywhere.
Expiry: 7 days for Coral and Ladbrokes spins once credited; 3 days for 10bet's wagering; 7 days for Casumo's.
Eligible games: listed in the offer; check the promotion page rather than assuming.

Remember that each spin offer first needs a £10 deposit or bet of your own, which is exposed to the house edge like any stake. Our free spins value page shows the method for any offer.
Can you refuse an automatic bonus?
Yes. If you don't want a bonus, don't take the step that triggers it: join without the offer link, skip the opt-in, or don't accept the spins. If a bonus has already been credited, most casinos let you forfeit it from the bonus area or through support. Forfeiting removes the bonus and anything won with it, but never your deposit balance, which the Commission's guidance on withdrawing deposits during bonus play (opens in a new tab) says you can take out at any time.
If a bonus ever appears that you didn't choose, contact the casino and ask for it to be removed before you play. Our guides on how to opt out of bonuses and how to cancel free spins explain the usual process.
Advantages
No code to find or mistype
Credited as soon as you qualify
Terms are the same as any other offer, so easy to compare
Drawbacks
Easy to forget a bonus is active and its rules apply
A wrong payment method silently disqualifies you
Acceptance or daily claim steps still need attention
Automatic bonus vs bonus code: which is better?
Neither is better in itself. The value of an offer depends on its terms, not on how it's triggered. Codes add one more thing to get wrong; automatic bonuses add the risk of not noticing you've got one. Our bonus codes vs automatic bonuses comparison goes further, and how to use a bonus code covers the code route for casinos that still use it.
Automatic bonuses and safer gambling
Because automatic bonuses need little effort, it's easy to take one without thinking about the deposit behind it. Set your deposit limit first and treat any bonus as a small extra on top of money you'd planned to spend on entertainment. UK casinos must stop new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of harm. If you'd like help, the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133) is free and open 24/7, and GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) blocks all UK-licensed gambling sites.

Frequently asked questions
What is an automatic casino bonus?
It's a bonus the casino adds to your account without a promo code once you meet the condition, such as a first deposit or a qualifying slots bet. In the UK you still choose the offer, through an offer link, a sign-up option or an acceptance step, but the crediting happens by itself. The terms, including wagering, max bet, eligible games and expiry, apply exactly as they would with a code. Our how casino bonuses work page covers the basics.
Do UK casinos still use bonus codes?
Some do, but none of our five partners needs one. Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet all credit their welcome offers after a qualifying deposit or bet, combined with an opt-in, an acceptance step, a sign-up choice or an offer link. If a site claims to have a special code for one of these brands, check the casino's own promotions page first. Our Coral promo code page explains what we found for that brand.
Why didn't my automatic bonus appear?
The most common reason is an excluded payment method: e-wallets such as Skrill and Neteller, PayPal and prepaid cards are excluded from several of our partners' offers. Other causes are joining by the wrong route, betting on games that don't count, depositing less than the minimum, unfinished verification or an account restriction. Check each against the offer terms before contacting support. See why a bonus was not credited for the full checklist.
Can a casino put me in a bonus without asking?
It shouldn't. Guidance on fair promotional terms in the UK expects players to opt in to promotions rather than be enrolled automatically, because a bonus adds conditions such as wagering and bet limits. Automatic crediting after you've chosen an offer is normal; being bound by terms you never agreed to isn't. If a bonus appears that you didn't choose, ask the casino to remove it before playing. Our opt in bonus page explains your position.
Are automatic bonuses better than ones with codes?
Not in themselves. How a bonus is triggered says nothing about its value. Compare the terms instead: spin value, wagering, max bet, expiry and any maximum win. A no-wagering spins offer credited automatically can be worth more than a bigger coded match bonus with wagering, or less, depending on the numbers. Our guide on how to compare casino bonuses shows a step-by-step method.
Is OJOplus an automatic bonus?
PlayOJO describes OJOplus as money back on every game played, with no wagering, which makes it a play-based return rather than a welcome bonus. We don't quote a rate because we haven't verified one, and you should check PlayOJO's help pages for how and when it's credited. It's separate from the 80-spin welcome offer and from the Kickers and levels in PlayOJO's rewards. Our how OJOplus works guide covers what we can confirm.
Do automatic bonuses have wagering?
Some do and some don't. Our partners' spin offers at Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO have no wagering on winnings, while Casumo's and 10bet's deposit matches require 10x the bonus, the maximum allowed since 19 January 2026. How the bonus is credited doesn't affect this; the terms do. Always check whether winnings are paid as cash or as bonus funds. Our wagering requirements guide explains how the 10x cap works in pounds.
How quickly is an automatic bonus credited?
Usually soon after you qualify, but not always instantly. Spin offers may need you to accept them, as with Coral's 48-hour window, or claim them each day, as with Ladbrokes' 23:59 deadline. Some deposit methods can take longer to clear; PlayOJO's help page says some can take up to 3 working days to be credited. Our page on when free spins credit covers the usual timings.
Can I turn off an automatic bonus once it's credited?
Usually, yes. Most casinos let you forfeit an active bonus from the bonus area of your account or by contacting support. You lose the bonus and any winnings made with it, but your deposit balance is unaffected and can be withdrawn at any time. Spins already played can't usually be undone. Check before you start playing if you'd rather go without. See can you cancel a casino bonus for what to expect.
Does an automatic bonus count towards my deposit limit?
No. Deposit limits measure money you pay in, and bonus funds or spins aren't deposits. The deposit that triggers the bonus does count, so a low limit could stop you qualifying, which is the limit working as intended. Since 31 October 2025 UK casinos must prompt new customers to set a financial limit before the first deposit. Our deposit limit rules page explains the current requirements.
