Welcome bonus vs reload bonus

Welcome bonus vs reload bonus is really new customer versus existing customer: a welcome bonus is a one-off offer for your first deposit or bet at a casino, while a reload bonus is a repeat offer on later deposits. Welcome offers are usually the larger and better-documented of the two, and you only get one chance at each.

Key takeaways

  • A welcome bonus is once per customer and tied to your first deposit or bet; reloads are repeat offers for existing customers.
  • All five partner casinos we track publish a welcome offer; none publishes a standing reload bonus in its offer terms.
  • Both types fall under the 10x wagering cap since 19 January 2026, and you must opt in to marketing before reload offers can be sent.
  • A welcome offer has a deadline you can miss (10bet: first deposit within 7 days of sign-up). 18+, terms apply.

Welcome bonus vs reload bonus: the short answer

A welcome bonus is the offer a casino makes to win your first deposit. A reload bonus is what it may offer later to keep you depositing. In practice the welcome offer tends to be the bigger, more prominent deal with fixed published terms, while reloads are smaller, change often and usually arrive by email, text or in-app message.

For a like-for-like comparison we can only use real terms where they exist. All five of our partner casinos publish a welcome offer, but none lists a standing reload bonus in the terms we track (last checked 5 October 2026). That makes the welcome offer the one you can plan around. Every offer on this page is for adults aged 18 or over, and terms apply.

What separates a welcome bonus from a reload bonus

Three things decide which is which: who can claim, when, and how often. A welcome bonus is limited to new customers, is triggered by a first deposit or first qualifying bet, and can be claimed once. Some casinos split it across several deposits as a welcome package, but it still ends there.

A reload bonus is open to existing customers, is triggered by a later deposit, and may be repeated weekly, monthly or as a one-off. Reloads are usually matches (say 25% or 50% up to a cap), though some casinos offer free spins on a later deposit instead. Because they target people who already play, reloads are also where marketing consent and safer-gambling checks matter most.

Here is what each partner's welcome offer is worth at face value and on average. Averages use a 96% RTP slot (4% house edge) except PlayOJO, where the published 96.71% RTP of Big Bass Bonanza applies. They are long-run illustrations, not predictions.

Comparing welcome and reload value: worked examples

Because a reload can repeat, it is tempting to add up a year of reloads and compare it with one welcome offer. That comparison is misleading unless you would have made every one of those deposits anyway. Here is a fairer way to see it, using an illustrative 25% reload up to £25 with 10x wagering, set against 10bet's welcome offer.

10bet welcome (100% to £25)Illustrative reload (25% to £25)

The average value is the same, but the reload needs four times the deposit to get there. Put another way, a welcome match tends to give more bonus per pound deposited, and a reload tends to ask more of you for the same result. That pattern is common, though not universal, so compare actual terms each time.

Who can claim a welcome bonus or a reload bonus

Welcome offers come with strict eligibility. They are for new customers only and normally limited to one per person, household, device or payment method; our glossary entry on one offer per household explains how that is applied. PlayOJO's offer excludes Northern Ireland and can't be combined with other offers. 10bet's offer is for new UK customers who choose the casino welcome bonus at sign-up.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (UKGC account 54743), so one person may not be able to hold new accounts at both. Check the terms before you sign up; our page on whether Coral and Ladbrokes share accounts has more.

Reload eligibility is set per offer and can be narrower: some reloads are sent only to selected customers. Operators must also stop new bonuses for customers with strong signs of gambling harm, and anyone self-excluded through GAMSTOP can't receive offers from licensed sites.

Timing: when welcome and reload offers start and end

A welcome bonus has a clock that starts at sign-up or first deposit, and missing it means losing the offer for good. A reload usually has its own short claim window each time it runs.

  • 10bet: choose the casino welcome bonus at sign-up and make the first deposit within 7 days; wagering then runs for 3 days. Our 10bet how-to-claim page sets out the order of steps.
  • Coral: the current offer runs from 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027; spins must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days.
  • Ladbrokes: available from 14 November 2025 until further notice; each day's 50 spins must be claimed before 23:59 and last 7 days.
  • Casumo: opt in, deposit at least £20, then 7 days to complete 10x wagering.
  • PlayOJO: spins are credited with the first qualifying deposit of £10 or more.

UK rules that shape welcome and reload bonuses differently

Most promotion rules apply to both types, but a few bite harder on one than the other.

The mixed-product rule is why sign-up journeys now ask you to pick one welcome offer; our sports or casino welcome offer page explains the choice. The Gambling Commission's note on new deposit limit rules (opens in a new tab) covers the limit prompt, and LCCP 5.1.9 (opens in a new tab) requires significant conditions of any incentive to be shown prominently and kept available for the full run of the promotion.

How to weigh a welcome bonus against later reload offers

  1. Decide whether you want an account at this casino for its own sake, not for the bonus.
  2. Read the welcome offer's significant terms: trigger, deposit, wagering, max bet, expiry and payment exclusions.
  3. Work out its average value at the deposit you planned: spins × stake × RTP, or bonus minus wagering × house edge.
  4. Check the deadline from sign-up to first deposit so you don't lose the offer by accident.
  5. Set a deposit limit when prompted, at an amount you can afford to lose.
  6. After the welcome offer ends, judge each reload on its own terms and only for deposits you had already planned.
  7. If you don't want reload marketing, leave the email and SMS boxes unticked or change your preferences later.

Welcome offers from our partners, and where reloads stand

Coral's welcome offer gives new players 100 free spins at 10p after depositing and betting £10 on slots, with no wagering on spin winnings, 48 hours to accept and 7 days to use; Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't qualify. Ladbrokes gives up to 500 spins at 10p, 50 a day for 10 days, after £10 of slots play, with no wagering; prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers are excluded. PlayOJO gives 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p with a first deposit of £10 or more, winnings paid as cash.

Casumo (50% up to £100, 10x in 7 days, £5 max bet) and 10bet (100% up to £25, 10x on slots in 3 days, £1,000 max bonus winnings) are the match alternatives. None of the five lists a standing reload bonus, so check the promotions page once you are a customer. All offers are 18+, new customers only, and terms apply. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a welcome bonus and a reload bonus?

A welcome bonus is a one-off offer for new customers on their first deposit or bet, while a reload bonus is a repeat offer for existing customers on later deposits. Welcome offers are usually bigger and published on the promotion page with fixed terms; reloads are often smaller and sent by email, text or app message. Both are capped at 10x wagering in the UK since 19 January 2026. Our welcome bonus guide covers sign-up offers in more depth. 18+, terms apply.

Is a welcome bonus better than a reload bonus?

Usually yes, because welcome offers tend to give more bonus per pound deposited. 10bet's welcome match is 100% up to £25, so £25 in gives £25 of bonus; a typical 25% reload would need £100 for the same £25. Wagering at 10x then costs about the same either way. Welcome offers also come with clearer published terms. Reloads can still add value on deposits you were already going to make. Our guide asking is a casino bonus worth it has more examples.

Can I get a welcome bonus more than once?

No, a welcome bonus is limited to one per new customer, and casinos often apply the limit per household, device or payment method as well. Opening a second account to claim it again breaks the terms and can lead to winnings being voided and the account closed. Because Coral and Ladbrokes share an operator, one person may not be able to claim new-customer offers at both. See can you claim two welcome bonuses for how this works across different casinos.

Do your partner casinos offer reload bonuses?

None of our five partners lists a standing reload bonus in the offer terms we track, last checked on 5 October 2026. Their published offers are all welcome offers. Casinos can still send existing customers promotions, but only through channels you have opted in to, and they must stop offering bonuses to anyone showing strong signs of harm. Check the promotions page while logged in. Our page on Casumo offers for existing customers shows what to look for at one partner.

How do I know if a deposit counts for the welcome bonus?

Check three things: that it is your first deposit, that it meets the minimum, and that the payment method isn't excluded. PlayOJO needs £10 or more, Casumo £20 or more with an opt-in, and 10bet a first deposit within 7 days of sign-up. Coral and Ladbrokes exclude several e-wallets and prepaid cards from their offers, and 10bet excludes Skrill and Neteller. Our qualifying deposit entry explains the term and why a deposit can fail to qualify.

Why do casinos need my consent to send reload offers?

Because since 1 May 2025, Gambling Commission rules require remote casinos to get your opt-in for each product and each channel before sending direct marketing. At registration, the boxes for casino, betting and bingo marketing by email, SMS or phone must be unticked by default. Existing customers are asked to confirm preferences. Without consent, reloads can't be pushed to you, though they may still appear on the promotions page. Our page on direct marketing rules has the detail.

Can I take a sports welcome offer and a casino welcome offer together?

Not as one combined offer: since 19 January 2026, a single promotion can't include more than one type of gambling product. Sign-up flows now ask you to pick either the sports or the casino welcome offer, as 10bet's terms do when they say to choose the casino welcome bonus at sign-up. Whether you can later claim the other is set by each operator's terms. See the mixed-product promotion ban for the rule and its background.

Are reload bonuses smaller than welcome bonuses?

Often, though not always. Reloads commonly use lower match percentages than headline welcome matches, so they need a larger deposit for the same bonus amount. The 10x wagering cap applies equally to both, so the wagering cost per pound of bonus is similar. Because reloads change frequently and are sometimes sent only to selected customers, compare the actual offer in front of you. Our guide to how casino welcome offers have changed puts current offers in context.

Do deposit limits affect welcome and reload bonuses?

Yes, a deposit limit caps how much you can deposit in the period you choose, whatever offer is running. Since 31 October 2025, casinos must prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and lowering a limit takes effect immediately. If a reload needs a deposit above your remaining limit, you simply can't claim it, which is the point of the tool. Our page on the financial limit prompt explains the rule and how to set a limit.
