A spend and get bonus rewards you once your stakes on eligible games reach a set total, for example £10 spent on slots. “Spend” means money staked, not money deposited, and it builds up spin by spin. This guide shows how that total accumulates, what the reward is worth, and what quietly stops a stake from counting.
In casino terms, “spend” means the total of your real-money stakes, not the size of your deposit.
£10 of spend can come from a £10 deposit or less, because winnings that you restake count too.
Ladbrokes' offer (18+, terms apply) is the clearest UK example: spend £10 on slots for 50 spins a day at 10p for 10 days.
Reaching £10 of spend costs about 40p on average at a 96% RTP, whatever stake size you use.
A casino can’t make a spend and get reward bigger because you hit the spend target sooner.

What a spend and get bonus means in casino terms
A spend and get bonus is an offer where the casino counts how much you stake on eligible games and gives you a reward once that total passes a threshold. In shops, “spend £10” means handing over £10. In a casino it means placing £10 of stakes, which is a different thing: a £10 deposit could produce £10, £15 or £30 of spend depending on what you win and restake along the way, or less if the balance runs out first.
The phrase overlaps heavily with the bet and get bonus; some casinos say “bet £10”, others say “spend £10” or “play £10”, and the mechanics are usually the same. Spend wording tends to appear where the reward is spread over time or where the threshold is cumulative across several sessions, which is why it is worth understanding on its own. For the full family of offers, see our hub of casino bonus types.
Among our partners, Ladbrokes' welcome offer uses this language directly: deposit and spend £10 or more on slots to receive 50 free spins a day for the first 10 days. It is for new customers aged 18 or over, and terms apply.
Spend vs deposit: what counts towards a spend and get bonus
Terms differ between casinos, but the general rule is that only real-money stakes on the named games count. Here is how common situations usually play out; the specific offer terms always take priority.

The restake point surprises people. If you deposit £10, stake 10p a spin and win small amounts along the way, your total spend can pass £10 while your balance still holds a few pounds. Equally, a run of losses can empty the balance before the £10 is reached, which is why the terms say spend rather than deposit. The glossary entry on turnover explains this in more depth, and the one on the qualifying bet covers the stake that actually triggers the reward.
How a £10 spend and get threshold builds up
UK rules shape how quickly spend can accumulate. Online slots are capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24, and every slot spin must take at least 2.5 seconds. So £10 of spend always needs several spins, and at low stakes it takes a few minutes at minimum.

The last column is the important one. Because the house edge applies to every pound staked, the average cost of reaching £10 of spend is about the same whatever stake you use: roughly 40p at a 96% RTP. What changes is the size of the swings. Five £2 spins can wipe out a £10 balance quickly; a hundred 10p spins spread the outcome more evenly. Neither is a way to reduce the house edge, and higher stakes simply mean bigger possible losses.
The steps below follow the Ladbrokes offer as an example. Other casinos use the same pattern with different numbers.
Check you are eligible: 18 or over, new to the brand, and not already holding an account the terms treat as linked.
Register through the offer page and pass the age and identity checks that UK casinos must complete before you can deposit.
Set a deposit limit at the prompt shown before your first deposit. The casino must offer it; choosing an amount close to the spend threshold keeps the offer in proportion.
Deposit with a qualifying method. Ladbrokes excludes prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers.
Spend £10 or more on slots. The total builds across spins.
Claim 50 spins each day for the next 10 days, before 23:59 each time.
Use each day's spins within 7 days on the selected games. Winnings are paid without wagering.
Daily spend and get rewards: how much the 10-day model pays
Spreading a reward over days changes what the offer is worth to each person. With Ladbrokes, a single £10 spend sets up 10 daily batches of 50 spins, and each batch has to be claimed on its day. Here is how the value accumulates if you claim some, most or all of them.

The daily format rewards regular logging in. That can be convenient if you were going to visit anyway, but it is also how habits form. If you notice the daily claim pulling you into longer sessions than you planned, it is fine to claim fewer days and leave the rest. Our daily free spins page and the comparison of daily vs one-off free spins look at the trade-off from both sides.
Is a spend and get bonus worth it?
The honest answer depends on whether the spend would have happened anyway. If you already intended to play £10 of slots, a spend and get bonus adds spins with no wagering for an average cost of about 40p of that £10. If you would only be spending to reach the threshold, you are paying for the reward with real-money play, and the outcome of that play is uncertain.
Advantages
Clear threshold that you can track as you play.
Ladbrokes' reward has no wagering on winnings.
Low entry point of £10.
Restaked winnings normally count towards the total.
Drawbacks
The full reward relies on claiming daily for 10 days.
Common e-wallets and prepaid cards don't qualify.
The £10 of spend is real-money play that can all be lost.
Spins only work on the listed games.
Spin winnings follow the slot's own volatility, so 50 spins at 10p might return nothing or several pounds. Higher-volatility games pay less often but in bigger amounts, so results from a small batch vary a lot.
Spend and get bonus terms that stop stakes counting
When a spend and get bonus doesn't trigger, one of these terms is nearly always the reason. Read them in the significant terms box before your first deposit.
Payment exclusions. If the deposit came from an excluded method, none of the stakes made with it count. Ladbrokes lists the deposit methods (opens in a new tab) it accepts on its help centre; the exclusions for the offer sit in the promotion terms. See how payment exclusions work.
Game type. Slots-only offers ignore table games, live casino and anything else.
Timing. Stakes before opt-in, or outside any stated window, may not count.
Account status. Existing customers, linked accounts and some sister-brand accounts can be ineligible.
Location. Some offers exclude certain regions; PlayOJO's excludes Northern Ireland, for instance.
Claim deadlines. Ladbrokes' daily batches lapse if not claimed by 23:59.
The ASA's guidance on promotional terms and conditions (opens in a new tab) says significant conditions like these must be made clear in the advert itself, not left for the small print. If an advert hid one, you can report it.
Spend and get offers under the 2026 UK bonus rules
Three rules shape spend and get offers in Great Britain.
One product per offer
Since 19 January 2026, an incentive can't mix gambling products. A spend and get bonus can't ask you to spend on sports bets and reward you with casino spins, or the reverse. Our page on the mixed-product promotion ban explains the detail.
No bigger reward for spending faster
The code in force since 19 January 2026 carries over an older rule: a casino must not alter or increase an incentive if you reach the qualifying spend in a shorter time than the whole period the offer runs for. So hitting the target on day one must earn the same reward as hitting it on the last day. The Commission set out its reasoning in the executive summary of its incentives consultation response (opens in a new tab). See our page on time-based incentive rules.
Wagering capped at 10x
Where a reward does carry wagering, it can't exceed 10 times the bonus. Ladbrokes' spin winnings have none. Our 10x wagering cap page shows how the cap works on deposit matches, where it matters most.
Spend and get bonus vs other UK welcome offers
A spend and get offer is one of several ways our partners structure a welcome. Laying them side by side shows where your own money comes in and what you get for it.

If you prefer to know the reward before you play anything, a deposit offer like PlayOJO's fits better. If you'd rather a cash-style bonus to use across a wider range of slots, a match bonus such as Casumo's or 10bet's works differently, with wagering and a max bet. Our guide to comparing casino bonuses has a checklist.
Setting a budget before a spend and get bonus
Because the threshold is about spending, it helps to decide your total before you start rather than letting the offer set it. A sensible approach is to treat the threshold as the entire budget for the session: if £10 of spend is needed, deposit £10 and stop when it's gone or the reward has arrived. The Gambling Commission's page on free offers and bonuses (opens in a new tab) reminds players they can walk away at any time and keep what's left of their own money.
Deposit limits, time-outs and reality checks are available at every UK-licensed casino; our guide to budgeting with a casino bonus shows how to combine them. If spending is starting to feel hard to control, the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, around the clock.

Frequently asked questions
What does spend and get mean at an online casino?
It means the casino gives you a reward once the total of your real-money stakes on eligible games reaches a set figure. Depositing alone isn't enough; the money has to be played. At UK casinos the threshold is commonly £10 on slots and the reward is a batch of 10p spins. Ladbrokes uses this wording for its welcome offer, which is for new customers aged 18 or over, with terms applying. The Ladbrokes casino bonus page sets out its exact conditions.
Is “spend £10” the same as “deposit £10”?
No. Depositing moves money into your account, while spending means staking it on a game. A £10 deposit can produce more than £10 of spend if you win and restake, or less if the balance is lost first. Most spend and get offers need both: a qualifying deposit and then qualifying stakes. If you'd rather the reward arrived after the deposit alone, look at offers like PlayOJO's 80 spins instead. Our deposit £10 get free spins page covers that type.
Do my winnings count towards the spend total?
Usually yes, if you restake them on eligible games, because a restake is still a real-money stake. Winnings that sit untouched in your balance don't count, since nothing has been staked. Terms can vary, so read the significant terms box, and check whether stakes made with spins or bonus funds from another promotion are included. Our glossary entry on turnover explains how casinos total up stakes, and it applies to spend thresholds as much as to wagering.
How many spins does it take to reach £10 of spend?
It depends on your stake: 100 spins at 10p, 50 at 20p, 20 at 50p, 10 at £1, or 5 at £2. UK slot stakes are capped at £5 a spin for over-25s and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds, and each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds. The average cost is about 40p at a 96% RTP whichever stake you choose; only the swings change. The online slot stake limits explainer covers the caps.
Why haven't my spend and get spins appeared?
The most likely reasons are an excluded deposit method, stakes on games that don't count, or the spend falling short of the threshold. For Ladbrokes, also check that you claimed the day's batch before 23:59, because unclaimed batches lapse. Look at your transaction history to confirm the total staked on slots, then contact support with the details. Our guide to why free spins aren't showing lists the checks in order.
Is there wagering on spend and get free spins?
Not on Ladbrokes' current offer, which pays spin winnings without wagering, and not on Coral's similar bet £10 offer either. Where a UK-licensed casino does attach wagering to a reward, it can't exceed 10 times the bonus since 19 January 2026. That cap was introduced by the Gambling Commission alongside the ban on mixed-product offers. The guide to no wagering free spins explains why wager-free spins are simpler to value and to withdraw.
Can I spend on sports to get a casino reward?
Not at a UK-licensed operator since 19 January 2026. The Gambling Commission banned incentives that combine different gambling products, so spending on football can't earn casino spins and slots play can't earn a free bet. Brands that run both a sportsbook and a casino now offer separate welcome deals for each product. The mixed-product promotion ban page explains what changed and why the Commission made the decision.
What happens if I miss a day of Ladbrokes' daily spins?
That day's 50 spins lapse, and the offer total shrinks by £5 of face value. The terms say each daily batch must be claimed before 23:59, and each claimed batch is valid for 7 days. Missing days doesn't usually cancel the remaining batches, but check the current terms to confirm. If logging in every day isn't realistic for you, a one-off reward may suit better. Our comparison of daily vs one-off free spins weighs the two formats.
Does a spend and get bonus encourage you to gamble more?
It can, which is why it helps to set limits first. The offer rewards staking, and a daily reward rewards logging in, so both nudge towards more play. UK rules stop a casino increasing the reward because you hit the threshold sooner, but the threshold itself is still a prompt to spend. Treat the threshold as your full budget and stop there. Our guide to bonuses and gambling harm explains warning signs and where to get help.
Which is better: spend and get or a deposit match?
It depends on what you want. Offers like Ladbrokes' give a fixed number of spins with no wagering after a small real-money stake. Deposit matches like Casumo's 50% up to £100 or 10bet's 100% up to £25 give bonus funds with 10x wagering, a time limit and, for Casumo, a £5 max bet. Spins are simpler to value; a match gives more flexibility on game choice. Our free spins vs deposit bonus comparison sets out the numbers.
