Monzo casino bonus

A Monzo casino bonus is a welcome offer claimed with your Monzo debit card or a bank payment from your Monzo account. No partner names Monzo, so the card counts as a debit card: not excluded at Ladbrokes, PlayOJO or 10bet, and in Coral’s unexplained ‘certain debit cards’ grey area. If Monzo’s gambling block is on, card deposits will be declined. 18+, terms apply.

Key takeaways

  • A Monzo card is handled as a debit card; no partner offer names Monzo either way.
  • Monzo’s gambling block declines card payments to merchants using the gambling code, and switching it off means waiting out a cooldown you chose, from 2 days to 1 year.
  • If you’ve spoken to Monzo support about gambling before, you have to message them to turn the block off.
  • A welcome offer is worth £8 to £50 of spins or a capped match bonus, never a reason to switch off a block you set.

Monzo casino bonus: can you use a Monzo card?

In most cases, yes. Casinos don’t list banks; they list payment types, and a Monzo card is a debit card. All five of our partners accept debit cards, and the welcome offers at Ladbrokes, PlayOJO and 10bet don’t exclude them. Casumo says payment restrictions apply without listing them, and Coral excludes ‘certain debit cards’ without saying which, so for those two a quick check with support is sensible.

The bigger Monzo-specific factor is its gambling block. Many Monzo customers switch it on, and while it’s active a card deposit at a casino will be declined, which means no deposit and no offer. This page covers both sides: how a Monzo card fits each partner offer, and how the block and its cooldown work. For the wider card picture see our debit card casino bonus guide, and for every method in one place see the casino bonus payment methods hub.

How Monzo’s gambling block works

Monzo’s gambling block page (opens in a new tab) explains that the block automatically declines card payments to merchants using the gambling merchant code. When you switch it on you pick a cooldown, anywhere from 2 days to 1 year, and to turn the block off you have to wait until that cooldown ends. If you’ve chatted with Monzo’s support team about gambling in the past, you need to message them to switch it off.

Monzo also notes a limit: a transaction that a merchant has tagged with the wrong code can get past the block. And because it works on card payments, it isn’t designed to catch every route money can take, so it works best alongside casino-level tools such as deposit limits and self-exclusion.

The Gambling Commission’s list of bank blocks, updated 16 October 2026, says turning Monzo’s block off requires contacting support. Monzo’s own page says that applies only to customers who have spoken to support about gambling before; everyone else waits out their chosen cooldown. Monzo’s page is the more specific source, but check the app for your account.

Monzo’s gambling block, then and now

Monzo announced its block on 19 June 2018, describing it in a blog post on self-exclusion (opens in a new tab) as a way to stop gambling transactions from your account. At that time, turning it off meant talking to support and waiting 48 hours. The current version lets you set the length of the delay yourself.

What happens to a welcome offer if your Monzo block is on

If the block is on and you try to deposit with your Monzo card, the payment is declined. Nothing is credited, so the welcome offer isn’t triggered; it isn’t lost either, since most offers are tied to your first successful deposit.

Please don’t treat the decline as a problem to solve. Using a different card, a bank transfer or a wallet to get round a block you set yourself defeats its purpose. If you turned it on because gambling was costing too much, that’s a good reason to leave offers alone. The Gambling Commission requires casinos to stop marketing and new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of harm; our page on bonuses and harm indicators explains how that works, and when to say no to a bonus covers the personal side.

What a Monzo-funded casino bonus is worth per pound

One useful way to compare offers is the value you get per pound of qualifying spend. The figures below are the same whatever bank you use, provided the deposit qualifies.

Offer value per pound of qualifying spend
OfferQualifying spendBonus valueValue per £1 spentWagering
Coral: 100 free spins after a £10 slots bet£10£10 of spins£1.00None on winnings
Ladbrokes: up to 500 free spins after £10 on slots£10Up to £50 of spins over 10 daysUp to £5.00, only if all 10 days are claimedNone
PlayOJO: 80 free spins on a first deposit£10£8 of spins£0.80None
Casumo: 50% up to £100£20£10 bonus£0.50, before about £4 wagering cost10x within 7 days
10bet: 100% up to £25£25£25 bonus£1.00, before about £10 wagering cost10x on slots within 3 days

Value per pound flatters spread-out offers: Ladbrokes’ top figure needs you to claim spins before 23:59 on each of 10 days, and coming back daily for spins is not a reason to play more than you planned. Wagering costs use a 4% house edge and are averages; a bonus doesn’t change the odds and losses are likely over time. Our compare casino bonuses tool sets the offers side by side.

How to claim a casino bonus with a Monzo card

  1. Decide on a budget first; if your Monzo gambling block is on, respect it rather than working round it.
  2. Read the offer’s significant terms, including payment exclusions, qualifying spend and deadlines; at Coral, ask whether a Monzo card qualifies.
  3. Register and pass age and identity verification, which UK casinos must complete before any deposit or play.
  4. Set a financial limit when prompted before your first deposit, as required since 31 October 2025.
  5. Add your Monzo debit card in the cashier and approve the payment in the Monzo app if asked.
  6. Complete the qualifying step and use the spins or bonus before they expire, checking the bonus tab for progress.

Getting winnings back to your Monzo account

Withdrawals usually return to the card you deposited with. At Coral and Ladbrokes, payouts go through internal approval and then take from instantly to five banking days depending on the method; Visa Fast Funds applies to eligible Visa debit cards, and Fast Bank Transfer to your Monzo account takes 2–4 business days after approval, with no withdrawal fees. For card payouts, Casumo publishes up to 2 days and 10bet up to 2 business days, while PlayOJO processes most payments within a few hours, it says.

A withdrawal can’t be reversed into play under UK rules, and your own deposit can be taken out even while a bonus is running. Read more in can I withdraw my deposit with a bonus active? and Coral withdrawal times.

Monzo’s gambling block compared with other UK banks

Bank blocks differ mostly in how hard they are to switch off. The table draws on each bank’s own help pages and the Commission’s list.

Bank gambling blocks at a glance
BankWhat it blocksSwitching it off
MonzoCard payments to merchants using the gambling codeAfter your chosen cooldown of 2 days to 1 year; via support if you’ve discussed gambling with them

BarclaysDebit card payments to gambling merchants, via a toggleNo delay stated on its help page

HSBC’s gambling restrictions page (opens in a new tab) also says credit card gambling payments are blocked automatically. Our Revolut and Starling pages look at those banks in more depth.

UK rules that apply to a Monzo casino bonus

Credit cards can’t be used to gamble with a UK-licensed operator, a rule in place since 14 April 2020; only your Monzo debit card or account should be used. Since 19 January 2026 bonus wagering is capped at 10x and offers can’t mix casino with other products, and an offer can’t be changed or made bigger because you reach the qualifying spend faster than its offer period. Our pages on the credit card ban and the 10x wagering cap have the detail.

Since 28 February 2025 casinos also run financial vulnerability checks once net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days. These are public-record checks, not the credit-reference ‘affordability checks’ that were piloted but aren’t live; see financial vulnerability checks.

Monzo for a casino bonus: pros and cons

Advantages

  • Counts as a debit card, which every partner accepts.
  • Ladbrokes, PlayOJO and 10bet leave debit cards off their exclusion lists.
  • A built-in block with a cooldown you set, listed by the Gambling Commission.

Drawbacks

  • Coral’s ‘certain debit cards’ exclusion makes qualification there uncertain.
  • Mis-tagged merchants can slip past the block.
  • The block is card-based, so other payment routes need separate controls.

Safer gambling for Monzo customers

Monzo’s block, a casino deposit limit and GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) together cover far more ground than any one alone: the block stops card payments, the limit caps what any method can deposit, and GAMSTOP excludes you from every UK-licensed online casino. The Gambling Commission’s bank block list (opens in a new tab) shows what other banks offer, and Halifax and Lloyds also give access to Gamban blocking software.

If gambling is causing worry, the National Gambling Helpline is free, confidential and open 24/7 on 0808 8020 133, run by GamCare. NHS gambling clinics in England take self-referrals. Our safer gambling page and how to self-exclude guide explain the next steps.

Where a Monzo casino bonus comes closest

For a Monzo debit card, Ladbrokes is the clearest fit because its offer doesn’t exclude debit cards: deposit and spend £10 on slots for 50 free spins a day for 10 days (up to 500), 10p each on selected games, claim before 23:59 each day, valid 7 days, no wagering. Coral gives 100 free spins after you deposit and bet £10 on slots (10p each, 48 hours to accept, valid 7 days, no wagering on winnings, until 1 February 2027), but check its debit card exclusion first; one person may not be able to take both offers.

PlayOJO lists no payment exclusions in its key terms and gives 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, 10p each with no wagering, on a first deposit of £10 or more (not available in Northern Ireland). Every offer here is for new customers aged 18+ only, and terms apply.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a Monzo card for a casino welcome bonus?

Usually yes, provided your gambling block is off and the offer doesn’t exclude the card. Casinos treat a Monzo card as a debit card. Ladbrokes, PlayOJO and 10bet don’t exclude debit cards from their welcome offers, while Coral excludes ‘certain debit cards’ without naming them and Casumo says payment restrictions apply. No partner mentions Monzo by name. Check the payment line in the offer’s terms before depositing; our debit card casino bonus guide explains how card deposits qualify. 18+, terms apply.

Will Monzo let me deposit at a casino?

Yes, unless you’ve switched on Monzo’s gambling block. With the block on, card payments to merchants using the gambling code are declined automatically. Without it, a Monzo debit card works like any other UK debit card at a licensed casino. The casino will still need to verify your age and identity before you can deposit, and will ask you to set a financial limit before your first deposit. Our how to verify your casino account guide explains the checks.

How do I turn off Monzo’s gambling block?

You wait until the cooldown you chose when switching it on has passed; Monzo lets you pick from 2 days to 1 year. If you’ve previously chatted with Monzo support about gambling, you need to message them to turn it off. The Gambling Commission’s list describes switching off as contacting support, so check the app for your own account. If you’re thinking of turning it off just to claim an offer, it may be worth pausing; see when to say no to a bonus.

Is a Monzo card one of Coral’s excluded debit cards?

We can’t confirm either way. Coral’s welcome offer excludes ‘certain debit cards’ along with e-wallets and prepaid cards, but its key terms don’t say which debit cards are meant. Before depositing, ask Coral’s live chat whether a Monzo debit card qualifies for the current offer, and keep a screenshot. Pay by Bank is listed at Coral and isn’t among the named exclusions. Our Coral payment methods page has the full cashier and offer details.

Does Monzo’s gambling block stop all gambling payments?

Not all of them. It declines card payments to merchants that use the gambling merchant code, and Monzo says transactions tagged with the wrong code can get through. Because it’s card-based, other routes need their own controls. Pairing the block with a casino deposit limit and GAMSTOP self-exclusion closes most gaps, and Gamban software adds a device-level block. Our guide on bonuses and GAMSTOP explains how self-exclusion affects offers.

When did Monzo introduce its gambling block?

Monzo announced it on 19 June 2018 as a self-exclusion tool. At launch, switching the block off meant contacting support and waiting 48 hours. Today you choose a cooldown between 2 days and 1 year when you turn it on, and you can switch it off only once that time has passed, unless you’ve spoken to support about gambling, in which case you message them. Our bonus history UK guide covers other changes to UK gambling since then.

How long do casino withdrawals to Monzo take?

It depends on the casino and method. Coral and Ladbrokes pay Fast Bank Transfer withdrawals within 2–4 business days after approval and use Visa Fast Funds for eligible Visa debit cards. Casumo shows card withdrawals taking up to 2 days, 10bet says up to 2 business days for debit cards, and PlayOJO says most payments are processed within a few hours. Incomplete verification is the most common cause of delay. See how long withdrawals take after a bonus.

Which casino bonus is best with a Monzo card?

There isn’t a Monzo-specific best, because the offers don’t change by bank. If you want no wagering and no doubt over debit cards, Ladbrokes’ up to 500 spins and PlayOJO’s 80 spins don’t exclude debit cards. Coral’s 100 spins are worth £10 but need a debit card check. Casumo and 10bet offer match bonuses with 10x wagering. The best choice is the one that fits a budget you’ve already set. Our bonus finder helps narrow it down. 18+, terms apply.

Can casinos see that I have a gambling block?

A casino sees only that a card payment was declined, not why. The block sits with your bank, not the casino. If you want a casino to stop you gambling as well, use its own tools, such as a deposit limit, a time-out or self-exclusion, or register with GAMSTOP to cover every UK-licensed online casino at once. Casinos must also stop new bonuses for customers showing strong signs of harm. Our time-out glossary entry explains the shortest of those tools.
