How bonuses work on Slingo

How bonuses work on Slingo depends on two things the terms decide: whether Slingo games are eligible at all, and how the extra spins you can buy at the end of a game are treated. A Slingo bonus is usually either a set number of free Slingo games at a fixed stake or bonus funds that Slingo play may count towards.

Key takeaways

  • Slingo mixes a slot-style reel with a 5×5 bingo-style grid; bonuses treat it as its own game type.
  • Free Slingo games are worth games × stake; bonus funds depend on the Slingo contribution rate.
  • Extra spins bought at the end of a game are further stakes, so they count against max-bet rules and use real or bonus money.
  • Bonus wagering is capped at 10x since 19 January 2026.
  • Our partners’ welcome offers are slot spins on listed games, not Slingo bonuses.

How bonuses work on Slingo, in brief

A Slingo bonus works like any casino bonus, but with one extra moving part. You either get a number of free Slingo games at a set stake, or bonus funds you can use on games the terms allow. Each Slingo game gives you a fixed number of reel spins to mark numbers on a grid; when they run out, many titles offer extra spins at a price. How those paid extra spins fit with the bonus is the detail most people miss.

Slingo sits between categories, so terms often list it separately from slots in a game weighting table. This guide explains the game, then each bonus type, with worked examples. It sits alongside our other casino bonus guides and the Slingo bonus page, which looks at the offers themselves.

None of our five partners’ welcome offers is a Slingo bonus. Use this guide to read any Slingo offer you come across.

What Slingo is and how a game plays out

Slingo was created in 1994 by Sal Falciglia Sr. in New Jersey and first launched to the public on AOL in 1996. RealNetworks bought it in 2013, and in 2015 it agreed to sell the business to London-based Gaming Realms, whose Slingo Originals studio develops the real-money versions played in the UK.

The core idea is a 5×5 grid of numbers with a row of reels underneath. Each spin shows a number on each reel; matching numbers in that column are marked off. Jokers let you mark a number in their column, and other symbols vary by title. Completing a line of five, horizontally, vertically or diagonally, is a ‘Slingo’, and the more Slingos you complete, the higher you climb a prize ladder set out in the paytable.

  1. Choose your stake, which sets the cost of the game and the size of the prizes.
  2. Play the included spins; matching numbers and jokers mark the grid.
  3. Count your Slingos; the prize ladder shows what each level pays.
  4. When the included spins end, decide whether to buy extra spins at the price shown, or collect.
  5. The game ends when you collect, run out of spins or complete the card.

The number of included spins, the symbols and the prize ladder all vary between titles, so read the help screen of the game you’re playing. It also shows the game’s return to player.

Free Slingo games: value per game

The simplest Slingo bonus is a set number of games at a fixed stake on a named title, the Slingo version of free spins. Value works the same way: number of games × stake. The average return is that value multiplied by the game’s RTP, and any one game can return nothing or a lot more.

Face value of free Slingo games
Free gamesStake per gameFace valueAverage return at an illustrative 95% RTP
1010p£1about 95p
2020p£4about £3.80
5010p£5about £4.75
5020p£10about £9.50

The 95% figure is only for illustration; use the RTP in the game’s help screen. Two questions decide the real value: whether winnings are paid as cash or as bonus funds with wagering, and whether you can buy extra spins during a free game. Some offers end each free game when the included spins run out; others let you pay for extra spins from your balance. Our free spins maths guide explains the averages in more depth.

Extra spins in Slingo and bonus terms

Paid extra spins are the feature that makes Slingo bonuses different. Each extra spin is a further stake within the same game, priced according to the state of the grid, and the price is shown before you choose. That has three consequences for a bonus.

  • Money: the terms say whether extra spins are paid from cash or bonus funds; during a free game, they may be charged to your own balance.
  • Max bet: a bonus max bet can apply to the price of a single extra spin, so an expensive extra spin can breach it.
  • Wagering: if Slingo counts towards wagering, extra spin purchases usually count as stakes, at the Slingo contribution rate.

The online slot stake limits add another layer. The Commission’s online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab) defines an online slot as a reel-based casino game and says further stakes within a game cycle count towards the £5 or £2 limit. Whether a particular Slingo title is classed as a slot is for the operator and supplier, so check the game’s stake range rather than assuming. Our page on online slot stake limits explains the limits.

Bonus funds on Slingo: contribution and wagering

With a deposit match or other bonus funds, the question is whether Slingo games are eligible and at what contribution percentage. Some offers count Slingo in full, some at a reduced rate and some not at all. Since 19 January 2026, the 10x wagering cap has limited wagering to 10 times the bonus, set out in the Commission’s social responsibility code 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab).

Average cost is stakes × (100% − RTP). With a 95% RTP that is 5p per £1 staked; check the real figure in the game’s help screen. At 50% contribution the average cost equals the bonus itself, and below that it costs more than it gives. Our wagering calculator lets you plug in your own figures, and our wagering requirements guide explains the method.

Is Slingo counted as slots, bingo or something else?

This question matters for eligibility. A bonus restricted to ‘slots’ or to selected games may or may not include Slingo titles, and an offer that needs a qualifying bet on slots may not count a Slingo game. Operators usually list Slingo in the casino lobby, sometimes in its own section.

The mixed-product ban adds a second angle. Since 19 January 2026, one promotion can’t include more than one type of gambling product, with casino and bingo named as separate products. Slingo borrows from bingo, but it is generally offered as a casino game, not as a bingo room. Our page on the mixed-product promotion ban explains the rule, and our guide to how bonuses work on bingo covers bingo itself.

  1. Find the eligible games list or weighting table in the offer’s full terms.
  2. Search it for ‘Slingo’ by name, not just ‘slots’.
  3. Check whether extra spin purchases are mentioned.
  4. If the terms are unclear, ask support in writing before playing with the bonus active.
  5. Keep the reply in case the bonus or winnings are queried later.

UK game rules that affect Slingo bonuses

Several Gambling Commission design rules shape how Slingo plays in Britain. Autoplay has been banned on slots since 31 October 2021 and on all online gaming products since 17 January 2025, so each Slingo game is started by you. The standards in RTS 14 on responsible product design (opens in a new tab) also stop slots celebrating a return that is no more than your stake.

Are Slingo bonuses worth it?

Advantages

  • Free Slingo games have a clear face value: games × stake.
  • No-wagering free games mean winnings are yours under the terms.
  • A 10x cap keeps wagering on Slingo bonus funds within limits.

Drawbacks

  • Paid extra spins can turn a free game into one you pay for.
  • Low or zero contribution can make bonus funds expensive to clear on Slingo.
  • Max-bet rules can be breached by a single costly extra spin.

A bonus doesn’t change the house edge on any Slingo game; the average player still gets back less than they stake. Read which games are excluded from bonuses before you choose where to play.

How our partners’ offers relate to Slingo

None of our partners runs a Slingo welcome bonus. Coral and Ladbrokes give free spins on slots after a £10 qualifying bet on slots; whether a Slingo game counts as that qualifying bet depends on the terms, so check before you rely on it. Coral gives 100 free spins at 10p (certain deposit types excluded), with 48 hours to accept, seven days to use them and no wagering on winnings. Ladbrokes gives up to 500 at 10p, 50 a day for 10 days, claimed by 23:59 each day and valid for seven days, with no wagering.

PlayOJO gives 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p after a £10 minimum first deposit, with no wagering and winnings in cash; it isn’t available in Northern Ireland. Our bet £10 get free spins page compares the two qualifying-bet offers, and the Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO pages list full terms. All offers are 18+ and terms apply.

Frequently asked questions

How do Slingo bonuses work?

A Slingo bonus is either a set number of free Slingo games at a fixed stake, or bonus funds that may count towards wagering when you play Slingo. Free games are worth games × stake, so 20 games at 20p is £4. Bonus funds depend on whether Slingo is eligible and its contribution rate. The extra detail is paid extra spins at the end of each game: the terms say who pays for them and whether they count. Our Slingo bonus page covers the offers.

Do Slingo games count towards wagering?

Sometimes, but it varies by offer, so look for Slingo by name in the terms. Some bonuses count Slingo in full, some at a reduced rate and some exclude it. At 50% contribution, £100 of wagering needs £200 of Slingo stakes; at 0% it can’t be cleared on Slingo at all. Since 19 January 2026, wagering itself can’t exceed 10x the bonus. Our game weighting guide explains how to read contribution tables.

Can I buy extra spins with bonus money in Slingo?

It depends on the terms. Some offers let extra spins be paid from bonus funds, some charge them to your cash balance, and some free-game offers end each game when the included spins run out. Each extra spin is a further stake, so it can count towards wagering and against any max-bet rule. Check the price shown against the bonus max bet before you buy. The casino bonus max bet page explains how caps are applied.

Does the £5 slot stake limit apply to Slingo?

It applies where a Slingo title is classed as an online slot, which the Commission defines as a reel-based casino game. The limit is £5 per game cycle for adults aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds, and the guidance says further stakes within a game cycle count towards it, which is relevant to bought extra spins. Check the stake range in the game itself rather than assuming. Our online slot stake limits page explains the rule.

Who makes Slingo games?

Slingo is a brand owned by Gaming Realms, a London-based company, whose Slingo Originals studio develops the real-money games. The original game was created in 1994 by Sal Falciglia Sr. and launched on AOL in 1996. RealNetworks bought it in 2013 and agreed to sell it to Gaming Realms in 2015. Our RTP glossary entry explains the return figure shown in each game’s help screen.

Are free Slingo games really free?

They usually come with a condition, such as a deposit or a qualifying bet, and that condition should be stated next to the word ‘free’. Once you have them, the games cost nothing to play at the set stake, but buying extra spins during a free game may use your own money. Winnings may also be paid as bonus funds with wagering. Our answer on whether free spins are really free applies the same checks.

Is Slingo treated as bingo under the mixed-product ban?

Slingo borrows from bingo, but it is generally offered as a casino game in the casino lobby rather than as a bingo room. The ban, in force since 19 January 2026, stops one promotion including more than one product, such as casino and bingo. That means a bingo offer shouldn’t give Slingo games and a casino offer shouldn’t give bingo tickets. Check how a site classifies Slingo in its terms. See the mixed-product promotion ban for the rule in full.

What is a good Slingo bonus?

A good Slingo bonus has a clear value, no or low wagering, Slingo counted in full and a fair approach to extra spins. Free games with cash winnings are easiest to judge: games × stake. For bonus funds, check the contribution rate first, because at 50% or less the average cost of clearing can match or exceed the bonus. Also check expiry and max bet. Our casino bonus checklist lists the terms to read in order.

Can I use free spins on Slingo games?

Usually not, because free spins are tied to the slots named in the offer. Coral and Ladbrokes list their selected games on the promotion page, and PlayOJO’s 80 spins are on Big Bass Bonanza. A separate offer of free Slingo games would name the Slingo titles it covers. If you want to play Slingo, check whether any bonus funds you hold count on it. Our answer on choosing your free spins slot explains how games are set.

Do any of your partners offer a Slingo bonus?

No, none of our five partners’ welcome offers is a Slingo bonus. Coral and Ladbrokes give free spins on selected slots after a £10 bet on slots, PlayOJO gives 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza after a £10 first deposit, and Casumo and 10bet offer deposit matches with 10x wagering and game restrictions. Check each offer’s terms for whether Slingo counts for anything. 18+, terms apply. See bet £10 get free spins for the two qualifying-bet offers.
