Casino SMS bonus offers

An SMS bonus is a casino offer sent to your phone by text message, typically spins, a reload or a time-limited promotion for an existing customer. UK casinos may only text you casino marketing if you opted in to SMS for that product, and a short message still has to flag the key conditions and link to the full terms.

Key takeaways

  • Text offers are ordinary promotions sent by SMS; the 10x wagering cap and the ban on mixed sports-and-casino offers apply to them.
  • Since 1 May 2025, consent to SMS marketing is separate from consent to email or phone, and separate for casino, betting and bingo.
  • Reply STOP to end marketing texts, forward spam to 7726, and report persistent texts to the ICO.
  • None of our partners publishes a text-only welcome offer; their sign-up offers are on their own sites, 18+ and terms apply.

What an SMS bonus means at a UK casino

Casino text offers are the shortest form of gambling marketing you can receive. A typical one reads like a headline: a number of spins, a percentage match or a cashback rate, a deadline and a link. Behind that link sits a normal promotion with normal terms. Nothing about the SMS route changes how the bonus works; it only changes how little space the casino has to explain it.

The phrase is also used in a second sense: a bonus for depositing by mobile phone bill or SMS payment. That is a payment question rather than a marketing one, and none of our partners publishes a pay-by-mobile option. Our pay by phone casino bonus page covers it. The rest of this page, part of our types of casino bonus section, deals with offers sent by text.

None of our five partners publishes a welcome offer that is only available by text message, and none needs a promo code. Offers an existing customer is texted are set by the casino at the time, so check the promotions page for what applies to your account.

Who can receive SMS bonus offers in the UK

Text marketing from UK-licensed online operators is opt-in. The Commission’s direct marketing preferences code (opens in a new tab), in force since 1 May 2025, says customers must be able to choose marketing by product (betting, casino, bingo) and by channel (phone, email, SMS) when they register, with every box unticked by default. Customers who joined before the rule were asked to confirm their choices at their next log-in.

Account messages such as a verification request or a withdrawal update are service texts, not marketing. The detail on consent is on our marketing consent rules page, and the self-exclusion side is covered in self-exclusion rules.

SMS bonus terms in 160 characters: what must be included

A text message leaves little room, but the advertising codes still apply in full. The Commission’s marketing code 5.1.9 says that where space is limited an advert must say that conditions apply, include as many significant conditions as it can, and keep the full terms no more than one click away. A text that links straight to the offer terms page meets that last part; one that links to a generic homepage does not.

The ASA’s guidance on free bets and bonuses (opens in a new tab) lists the kinds of conditions it treats as significant: eligibility (such as new customers only or age), deposit or wagering requirements, and time limits to claim or use the offer. It also summarises a 2024 ruling against GB Sports Advisors, trading as Geoff Banks Online, where a free £10 bet ad left out a text-message deadline. The ASA found that deadline was a significant condition that should have been in the ad.

What a compliant casino text might contain

  • 18+ and who can claim (for example existing customers who opted in).
  • The qualifying action: deposit amount or stake on slots.
  • The headline reward with its condition next to it, never “free” on its own.
  • The deadline to claim and how long the bonus lasts.
  • “T&Cs apply” plus a direct link to the full terms.

SMS bonus offers under the January 2026 rules

Text offers are often built around a single sports event or a weekend, which is where the 2026 changes bite. From 19 January 2026, under social responsibility code 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab):

  1. Any wagering on a bonus is capped at 10 times the bonus, so a texted £5 bonus can require no more than £50 of play. See the 10x wagering cap.
  2. A single offer cannot mix gambling products, so a text promising casino spins for placing a bet on a match is no longer allowed.
  3. A reward cannot be altered or increased because you hit the qualifying spend sooner, so a text can't promise a bigger bonus for depositing on day one rather than later in the offer.
  4. Terms must be clear, fair and readily accessible, which for a text means a working link to the full terms.

These rules apply to promotions from operators licensed in Great Britain. A text offering 40x wagering or a sports-and-casino bundle is either out of date or not from a GB-licensed business.

How much is an SMS bonus worth? Worked examples

The short format makes headline numbers loom large. Turning them into pounds is quick. For spins, multiply the number of spins by the stake per spin. For bonus money, multiply by the wagering multiple to get the amount you must stake, then by the game’s house edge for the typical cost. These are averages over many spins, not predictions for one session.

Illustrative text offers turned into average values
Example text offerFace valuePlay neededTypical cost or returnWhat you would expect on average
Deposit £10, get 20 spins at 10p, no wagering£2None beyond the depositAbout £1.92 back at 96% RTPAbout £1.92 in cash winnings
Deposit £20, get 25% up to £5, 10x£5£50About £2 at a 4% edgeAbout £3
Deposit £50, get 100% up to £50, 10x£50£500About £20 at a 4% edgeAbout £30, if the max win allows

These are examples to show the method, not offers from a specific casino. The larger the deposit a text asks for, the more you are being asked to spend to receive the headline. A bonus does not change a game’s return, and losses over time are the likely outcome of gambling, so judge any texted deal by whether you would have deposited anyway. Scam casino texts and smishing

Fraudsters copy the look of genuine casino texts because people expect them. A message might claim you have a “bonus waiting” or that your account will be closed unless you log in through a link. These can lead to fake login pages or to sites with no Great Britain licence.

  • A real operator will never ask for your password, PIN or full card details by text.
  • Shortened or odd-looking links are a warning sign. Open the casino’s app or type its address yourself.
  • Texts about a casino you never joined suggest your number has been passed on or is being targeted. Do not reply except with STOP to a known operator.
  • Offers promising huge bonuses with no ID checks or crypto-only deposits come from sites outside UK licensing, where you have no Commission protection or ADR route.
  • You can check whether a brand is licensed using the Commission register; our guide to spotting unlicensed casinos explains how.

The wider risks of sites outside UK regulation are covered on our offshore casino bonuses page.

How to claim an SMS bonus safely

If a text offer from a casino you use looks worthwhile, this order keeps you in control.

  1. Open the casino’s app or website yourself instead of tapping the link.
  2. Look for the offer in your account’s rewards or promotions area to confirm it is real and meant for you.
  3. Read the significant terms: qualifying deposit, payment exclusions, eligible games, spin value, wagering and expiry.
  4. Opt in if the terms ask you to, and note whether a code is needed (our partners’ welcome offers need none).
  5. Check your deposit limit, then make only the deposit you had planned.
  6. Note the deadline for using the spins or bonus, and contact support if it hasn’t appeared.

If a bonus doesn’t show up, our page on why a bonus was not credited lists the usual causes, from an excluded payment method to a missed opt-in.

How to stop casino bonus texts

The Gambling Commission’s guidance on stopping gambling marketing texts and emails (opens in a new tab) gives three routes. Follow the opt-out instruction in the message, which usually means replying STOP to the sender’s number or short code. Contact your mobile network or forward spam texts to 7726, which may let it block the sender. If texts carry on, report the business to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

You can also switch off SMS marketing in your account preferences. If you want every GB-licensed online operator to stop contacting you and to block your play, GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) self-exclusion does both. Our how to stop bonus offers answer compares the options.

Texts that arrive just as you have decided to cut back can be hard to ignore. If gambling is becoming a problem, the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 is free and open 24/7. Our safer gambling page lists further support.

Frequently asked questions

What is an SMS bonus?

An SMS bonus is a casino promotion sent to your mobile by text message. It is usually aimed at existing customers who agreed to SMS marketing, and might offer spins, a reload match or cashback with a short deadline. The message has to flag that conditions apply and link to the full terms. The bonus itself follows the same rules as any other, including the 10x wagering cap. Check the offer on the casino’s own site before claiming, and see how casino bonuses work for the basics.

Can a casino text me offers if I only agreed to emails?

No. Since 1 May 2025, UK-licensed remote operators must collect consent separately for each marketing channel (phone, email and SMS) and each product (betting, casino, bingo). Agreeing to casino emails does not let the operator text you casino offers, and agreeing to sports texts does not cover casino texts. You can review your choices in your account settings. If unwanted texts continue, the Commission suggests reporting it to the ICO. Our direct marketing rules page has more.

How do I stop casino bonus texts?

Reply STOP to the number or short code the text came from, which should end marketing texts from that business. You can also switch off SMS marketing in your account settings. For spam, forward the message to 7726 so your mobile network can look at blocking the sender, and report persistent texts to the ICO. If you want all GB-licensed online operators to stop marketing to you and block your play, register with GAMSTOP. Our guide to stopping bonus emails covers the same steps for email.

Do SMS bonus offers have wagering requirements?

They can, but from a UK-licensed casino the wagering cannot exceed 10 times the bonus since 19 January 2026. A texted £10 bonus can need no more than £100 of wagering, which at a 4% house edge costs about £4 on average. Spins offers are often wager-free with winnings paid in cash. Because a text has so little space, check the full terms through the link or on the promotions page. Our wagering requirements guide explains how to cost them.

Is a casino text saying I have a bonus waiting a scam?

It might be. Genuine operators do send texts about offers, but fraudsters copy them to steer people to fake login pages. Don’t tap the link; open the casino’s app or website yourself and see whether the offer is in your account. A real operator will never ask for your password or full card number by text. Texts about a casino you never joined are a warning sign. Forward suspicious texts to 7726. Our unlicensed casino guide explains how to check a brand.

Why did I get a casino text after I self-excluded?

You should not have. When you self-exclude through GAMSTOP or directly with an operator, the Commission’s rules require operators to remove you from marketing within two days. If texts arrive after that, keep a screenshot and contact the operator to complain, quoting your self-exclusion. You can also report it to the Gambling Commission and to the ICO. For support, the National Gambling Helpline is on 0808 8020 133. Our GAMSTOP rules page explains what operators must do.

Can an SMS bonus include both sports bets and casino spins?

No, not from a UK-licensed operator since 19 January 2026. The mixed-product ban means a single incentive can only cover one type of gambling, so texts like “place a bet on tonight’s match and get casino spins” are no longer allowed. An operator can send you separate betting and casino offers if you opted in to SMS marketing for both. Older texts from before the change may still be in your inbox but no longer reflect what can be offered. See the mixed-product promotion ban.

What does SMS deposit bonus mean?

Some people use “SMS bonus” to mean a bonus for depositing by mobile phone bill or text payment. That is a payment method question, separate from text marketing. None of our five partners publishes a pay-by-mobile deposit option, so check the cashier of any casino you are considering, and check the offer terms too, because some welcome offers exclude certain deposit types. Our pay by phone casino bonus page covers how carrier billing works and the limits that usually come with it.

Are texted casino bonuses worth claiming?

Sometimes, if the offer is for a deposit you were already planning, the wagering is low or zero and you have time to read the terms. Texts often come with short deadlines, which can push quick decisions, so be wary of any that make you feel rushed. Work out the face value in pounds and the cost of any wagering before deciding. A bonus never changes a game’s odds or the long-run cost of playing. Our when to say no to a bonus guide lists good reasons to pass.
