40 free spins: the real value

40 free spins are worth £4 of slot play at 10p a spin, and on a 96% RTP game they return about £3.84 on average. That's roughly the same as a 40% match on a £10 deposit, before any wagering. None of our partners offers exactly 40 spins, so this page sets the maths out plainly and compares it with the spin and match offers that do exist.

Key takeaways

  • 40 spins at 10p are £4 of play; at 20p they are £8.
  • Wager-free spins and a deposit match can be compared in pounds once wagering costs are counted.
  • A qualifying deposit stays in your balance; a qualifying bet is staked at the house edge.
  • No partner of ours offers exactly 40 spins; PlayOJO's 80 is double that, 18+, terms apply.

40 free spins explained in one minute

A 40 free spins bonus gives you forty paid-for rounds on a slot the casino has chosen. You don't stake anything on those rounds; the casino covers the stake, usually 10p, and you keep what they return under the offer terms. Forty 10p spins are £4 of play. At a typical 96% RTP, the average return is about £3.84, though forty spins can easily finish well above or below that.

Spins are only half the market. Plenty of welcome offers give bonus money instead, as a percentage of your deposit. Comparing the two in pounds is the main purpose of this page. For every spin offer size, start at our free spins hub.

18+. Terms apply to every offer on this page. Slots cost money to play, the house edge applies to every spin you pay for, and a bonus doesn't change that.

Who offers 40 free spins? Not our partners

We checked all five partner offers on 5 October 2026, and none of them is a 40 free spins deal. Three partners give spins: PlayOJO 80, Coral 100 and Ladbrokes up to 500, all at 10p and all without wagering on winnings. The other two, Casumo and 10bet, give deposit-match bonuses. We compare all five with a 40-spin bundle below.

What 40 free spins are worth at 10p, 20p and 40p

The headline count is only half the value. Multiply it by the stake per spin, which the terms should state, to get the face value.

40 free spins or a deposit match: which gives more?

A wager-free spin bundle and a match bonus with wagering can be compared on their average value once you subtract the expected cost of wagering. Wagering cost is roughly the amount you must stake multiplied by the house edge. We use a 4% edge for slots throughout.

On paper the match bonuses carry more average value, but they come with more conditions: Casumo caps bets at £5 while a bonus is active, 10bet gives only 3 days to finish wagering and caps bonus winnings at £1,000, and both restrict games and payment methods. Wager-free spins carry fewer strings. And these figures describe the bonus alone: your own deposit is played at the same house edge, so a bigger deposit means bigger average losses, not a cheaper way to gamble. Our match bonus vs free spins comparison and our guide to the expected value of a casino bonus go deeper.

Deposit £10 get 40 free spins: how the format works

Most 40-spin offers you'll see follow one of two patterns. In a deposit offer, the spins follow a qualifying deposit, and that money sits in your balance to play with or withdraw. In a bet-and-get offer, you must stake a set amount on slots before the spins arrive, which means the house edge has already been applied to that stake.

Our partners use both. PlayOJO's 80 spins follow a first deposit of at least £10. Coral and Ladbrokes ask you to deposit and then bet or spend £10 on slots. Our pages on deposit £10 get free spins and bet £10 get free spins compare the two formats.

How 40 free spins can play out

Forty spins give a slightly fuller picture than a token reward, but they are still a small sample. On a low-volatility slot such as Starburst (published RTP 96.09%, top win 500x), forty spins tend to produce a series of modest returns and rarely anything large; the most a single 10p spin can pay is £50. On a high-volatility slot such as Gates of Olympus (96.50%, up to 5,000x), many more spins return nothing, with a small chance of a bigger payout of up to £500 on a 10p spin.

Neither game changes the average much: about £3.84 against £3.86 over forty 10p spins. What they change is how likely you are to see a total near that figure. Our volatility glossary entry explains the idea in more detail, and free spins maths shows the calculations.

Eligible games and stake limits on 40 free spins

Spins are locked to the eligible games in the terms, usually one slot or a short list of selected games. You can't raise the stake on a free spin, and winnings often have to be used on the same set of games if wagering applies.

Since 2025, online slot spins in Great Britain have been capped at £5 for players aged 25 and over (from 9 April) and £2 for those aged 18 to 24 (from 21 May). That doesn't affect 10p spins, but it does matter for qualifying bets and for wagering on any bonus funds. A bonus's own maximum bet sits on top: Casumo's is £5 per bet, for example. Our page on online slot stake limits has the detail.

A terms checklist for 40 free spins

Before opting in, find each of these in the significant terms. If one is missing, ask support or look elsewhere:

  • who can claim (age, location, new or existing customer, sister-brand rules);
  • what triggers the spins (deposit, bet, opt-in) and by when;
  • which payment methods are excluded;
  • the spin value and the named slot or slots;
  • how long you have to accept and to use the spins;
  • whether winnings are cash or bonus funds, and the wagering multiple;
  • any maximum win or maximum conversion.

Casinos must show significant terms up front, close to the offer. Our guide on how to read a significant terms box shows what a good one looks like.

How to claim 40 free spins

  1. Check the casino's licence on the Gambling Commission's public register.
  2. Read the offer's significant terms and note the trigger, spin value, game and deadlines.
  3. Open an account and complete age and identity verification.
  4. Set a deposit limit at the prompt before your first deposit.
  5. Opt in if required, then deposit, or deposit and bet, with an eligible payment method.
  6. Find the spins in the promotions area or open the named slot, and play them before they expire.
  7. Check whether the winnings are cash or bonus funds, and withdraw or stop when you choose.

Our how to claim guide covers the process at each partner, and why free spins may not be showing helps if something goes wrong.

Where to play: offers that beat 40 free spins

With no 40-spin offer among our partners, these are the honest alternatives for new customers. All are 18+, all at 10p a spin, and terms apply:

  • PlayOJO: 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza with a first deposit of £10 or more, worth £8 of play. Whatever the spins win is paid as cash, free of wagering. New UK customers only (not Northern Ireland); can't be combined with other offers. PlayOJO is run by Skill On Net Limited, Gambling Commission account 39326 (opens in a new tab).
  • Coral: deposit and bet £10 or more on slots for 100 free spins on selected games (£10 of play). The spins must be accepted inside 48 hours and played within 7 days, and their winnings carry no wagering. Deposits through Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards or certain debit cards are excluded.
  • Ladbrokes: deposit and spend £10 on slots for 50 free spins a day over your first 10 days, up to 500 (up to £50 of play). Every daily set has to be claimed by 23:59 and lasts 7 days, with no wagering on what it wins. Deposits by prepaid card, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill or Moneybookers won't trigger it.

PlayOJO is the closest match to a single 40-spin batch, just twice the size. If you'd rather have bonus money than spins, Casumo's casino bonus and 10bet's casino bonus pages cover the match offers compared above.

Frequently asked questions

How much are 40 free spins worth?

At 10p a spin, 40 free spins are worth £4 of play; at 20p, £8. On a 96% RTP slot, the long-run average return on forty 10p spins is about £3.84. Your actual result will vary a lot because forty spins is a small sample. What you can withdraw also depends on wagering and any win cap. The free spins value page explains how to calculate it for any offer.

Does any partner casino offer 40 free spins?

No. None of our five partners has an offer of exactly 40 free spins. PlayOJO gives 80 spins with a first deposit of £10 or more, Coral gives 100 spins after you deposit and bet £10 on slots, and Ladbrokes gives up to 500, at 50 a day for 10 days, after you deposit and spend £10 on slots. All are 18+, at 10p a spin, with no wagering on winnings and further terms applying. Our PlayOJO free spins page covers the closest match.

Are 40 free spins better than a deposit bonus?

Not always in pounds. Forty 10p spins with no wagering average about £3.84. A 50% match on £20 gives £10 of bonus with 10x wagering, worth around £6 on average after wagering costs; a 100% match on £25 is worth more again. Match bonuses carry more conditions, though: bet limits, short deadlines and game restrictions. Your own deposit is also staked at the house edge. Our comparison of free spins vs deposit bonus sets out who each suits.

Do I need a promo code for 40 free spins?

Usually not at UK-licensed casinos, where most welcome offers are applied by opting in or by signing up through the offer page. Our partners don't need a promo code for its welcome offer. PlayOJO's offer must be claimed through its designated offer link, and Casumo's needs an opt-in. If a code is required, it will be stated in the terms. Our bonus codes page explains when codes are still used.

What is the most I can win with 40 free spins?

It depends on the slot's top win and any cap in the offer. At 10p, a slot paying up to 5,000 times the stake could pay £500 on a single spin, while a 500x game tops out at £50. An offer's maximum win clause can limit what you keep to less than either. In practice, forty spins normally return a few pounds at most. See how much 10p free spins can win for more examples.

How long are 40 free spins valid for?

The terms will say; common periods range from 24 hours to 7 days, sometimes with a separate deadline to accept the spins first. Coral's spins, for example, must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days, and each daily Ladbrokes batch lasts 7 days once claimed. Unused spins are usually removed when they expire. Our free spins expiry page shows how these clauses are worded.

Can I withdraw my deposit while using 40 free spins?

At UK-licensed casinos you should be able to withdraw your own deposited money while a bonus is active, under undertakings casinos gave the CMA. Doing so may cancel any bonus funds or unplayed spins, depending on the terms, so read them first. Spins with no wagering usually pay winnings as cash that you can withdraw once verified. Our answer on withdrawing your deposit with a bonus active explains the rule.

Can I use 40 free spins on my phone?

Yes, in most cases. Spins are tied to your account, not a device, so they normally work in a mobile browser or the casino's app as well as on a computer. Occasionally a promotion is limited to the app, which the terms would say. The slot must be available on the device you use. Our answer on playing free spins on any device covers the exceptions.

Do 40 free spins count towards wagering?

The spins themselves don't, because you aren't staking your own money on them. If the winnings are paid as bonus funds, those funds then have to be wagered up to the stated multiple, which can't be more than 10x in the UK since 19 January 2026. Wager-free spins skip this step entirely. Our answer on whether free spins count towards wagering explains the mechanics.

Are 40 free spins safe to claim?

They are as safe as the casino offering them. A Gambling Commission licence means the operator must follow rules on fair terms, wagering caps, identity checks and safer gambling tools. You can check the licence on the Commission's public register. Avoid unlicensed sites, where none of these protections applies. Remember that any offer still involves gambling, which costs money. Our guide to telling a licensed casino from an unlicensed one shows what to look for.
