OJOplus vs cashback is a comparison between two ways of handing money back. PlayOJO’s OJOplus pays a little back on every game played, win or lose, with no wagering; typical casino cashback refunds a share of your net losses over a set period, sometimes as bonus funds. The first rewards activity, the second softens losing runs, and neither removes the house edge.
OJOplus pays money back on every game played, whether a round wins or loses, and PlayOJO says it carries no wagering.
Loss-based cashback pays only when you finish a period down, and may come as cash or as bonus funds with up to 10x wagering.
A stake-based rebate pays in winning sessions too; loss cashback pays nothing when you are ahead.
Neither type makes gambling profitable over time: the return is always smaller than the house edge.
Among our partners, OJOplus is the only money-back scheme in our checked data; check other casinos’ promotions pages for their current offers.

OJOplus vs cashback: the short answer
OJOplus is a stake-based rebate: PlayOJO pays money back on every game you play, so you receive something on rounds that win as well as rounds that lose. Standard cashback is loss-based: the casino works out how much you lost over a day, a week or a promotion window and returns a percentage of that figure.
That one difference changes when each pays, how big the percentages look, and how each should be judged. A stake rebate usually has a small percentage on a large base (everything you stake). Loss cashback usually has a larger percentage on a smaller base (only the net loss). Neither is a way to make gambling pay; both simply return part of what the house edge takes.
What OJOplus is and how it pays
OJOplus is PlayOJO’s signature feature. It is run by Skill On Net Limited, which holds UK Gambling Commission account 39326, and it returns money on every real-money game played. PlayOJO describes the money as having no wagering, so it does not need to be played through before it can be withdrawn.
We don’t quote an OJOplus rate here, because we have not been able to confirm a current published figure. PlayOJO sets out the rate and how OJOplus is credited in its own terms and account area, so check there before relying on any number. Our guide to how OJOplus works and the PlayOJO bonus review cover what is confirmed.
What loss-based casino cashback is
A loss-based cashback offer refunds a share of net losses, which means deposits or stakes minus returns, over a set period. The terms usually set:
the percentage returned and the period it covers;
which games count, since live casino or table games are often excluded;
a minimum loss before anything is paid, and a maximum refund;
whether the refund is cash or bonus funds, and any wagering attached, now capped at 10x in Great Britain;
when it is credited, and how long you have to use it.

To show the mechanics, we use two made-up rates: a stake rebate of 1% and loss cashback of 10%. These are illustrative only and are not PlayOJO’s rate or any casino’s offer. In each session the player stakes £200 in total on slots.

Loss cashback
On a 96% RTP slot, £200 of stakes costs about £8 on average. In this example, the stake rebate returns £2 every time, lowering the average cost to about £6. The loss cashback returns 10% of whatever is lost, so its payment rises as losses grow. In both cases you are still expected to lose money over time, because the amount returned is smaller than the house edge.
The break-even point in this example is a £20 loss: below it the stake rebate pays more, above it the loss cashback does. Change the rates and the break-even moves.
Why loss-based cashback needs careful thought
Cashback that grows with losses can feel like a cushion, and that feeling can lead people to keep playing after a losing run. It shouldn’t. A 10% refund on a £60 loss still leaves a £54 loss. Treat any money back as a small rebate on entertainment you had already paid for, not as a reason to stay at the tables or spin longer.
A stake rebate has its own trap: because it pays on every round, more play means more money back, which can make longer sessions feel worthwhile. The rebate is always smaller than the expected loss on the same stakes, so more play still costs more. UK rules that apply to OJOplus and cashback
Any cashback paid as bonus funds counts as an incentive under the Gambling Commission’s rewards and bonuses code (SR 5.1.1) (opens in a new tab), so its wagering can’t exceed 10x since 19 January 2026. Cashback paid as cash, like OJOplus, carries no wagering at all. The same date brought the ban on promotions that mix products, such as casino cashback tied to sports bets.
Money back is not taxed for UK players, in the same way that gambling winnings aren’t. Our answer to are casino bonuses taxable explains the position.

How to judge a money-back scheme
Find the base: is the percentage applied to stakes or to net losses?
Find the rate, any minimum loss and any maximum payment.
Check whether it is paid as cash or bonus funds, and the wagering if so.
Check which games count and when payments are credited.
Compare the rate with the house edge of the games you play: any rebate below it still leaves an expected loss.
Ask whether the scheme would change how much or how long you play. If it would, skip it.

Frequently asked questions
Is OJOplus the same as cashback?
Not quite; OJOplus pays money back on every game played, while typical cashback refunds a share of net losses. That means OJOplus pays something on winning rounds too, whereas loss cashback pays nothing if you finish a period ahead. PlayOJO says OJOplus has no wagering. Both return a small part of what the house edge takes rather than making play profitable. Our guide on how OJOplus works gives more detail.
What is the OJOplus rate?
We don’t publish a figure because we haven’t been able to confirm PlayOJO’s current rate from an official source. PlayOJO shows the OJOplus rate and how it is credited in its own terms and account pages, so check there before you rely on any number you see quoted elsewhere. Rates can change, and the terms in force when you play are what count. The PlayOJO bonus terms page explains where to find them.
Does OJOplus have wagering?
No, PlayOJO describes OJOplus money back as having no wagering, so it doesn’t need to be played through before withdrawal. That matches the no-wagering approach of its 80 free spins welcome offer, whose winnings are paid in cash. Normal account checks still apply when you withdraw. If you are comparing it with cashback elsewhere, check whether that cashback is paid as cash or as bonus funds. See PlayOJO bonus wagering.
Is cashback better than OJOplus?
It depends on the rates and on how your sessions go, and neither is better in every case. A loss-based scheme pays more after heavy losing sessions; a stake-based rebate pays more when you finish level or ahead. Over time, both return less than the house edge, so neither turns gambling into a profit. Use the break-even approach in our worked example. Our answer to are cashback bonuses worth it covers this.
Can cashback have wagering in the UK?
Yes, when cashback is paid as bonus funds it can carry wagering, but no more than 10 times the amount since 19 January 2026. Cashback paid straight into your cash balance has no wagering. The terms should say which applies, along with any minimum loss, maximum refund and eligible games. If they don’t, ask before opting in. The 10x wagering cap page explains the rule.
Do Coral, Ladbrokes, Casumo or 10bet offer cashback?
None of them has a cashback scheme in our checked data, so we don’t claim one. Their welcome offers are free spins (Coral, Ladbrokes) or match bonuses (Casumo, 10bet). Existing-customer promotions change, so check each casino’s promotions page for what is currently available. PlayOJO’s OJOplus is the only money-back scheme among our partners that we can confirm. See cashback bonus for how such offers work in general.
Is cashback real money?
Sometimes; it depends on whether the casino pays it as cash or as bonus funds. Cash cashback can be withdrawn like any other balance, subject to normal checks. Bonus-funded cashback must be wagered first, up to 10x in Great Britain, and may have a deadline. PlayOJO says OJOplus has no wagering. Always read the line in the terms that describes how cashback is credited. Our answer to is a cashback bonus real money explains more.
Does money back reduce the house edge?
It reduces the average cost slightly, but it doesn’t remove the house edge, because the amount returned is smaller than the edge. On £200 of slot stakes at 96% RTP the expected cost is about £8; an illustrative 1% rebate returns £2, leaving about £6 expected cost. The long-run result is still a loss. Treat money back as a small discount on entertainment. Our house edge entry explains the maths.
Is OJOplus available in Northern Ireland?
PlayOJO’s welcome offer excludes Northern Ireland, and Gambling Commission protections cover Great Britain rather than Northern Ireland. Whether OJOplus itself applies to accounts there is a question for PlayOJO’s terms or support team, which you can reach by live chat after logging in or by email. Our page on bonuses for Northern Ireland players sets out how the rules differ.
Should I play longer to earn more OJOplus or cashback?
No; playing longer to earn more money back means staking more, and every extra stake carries the house edge. The rebate is always smaller than the expected loss on the same play, so more play costs more on average. Decide on your budget and session length first and let any money back be a small extra. If you find it hard to stop, the guide to bonuses and gambling harm has support options.
