PayPal vs debit card bonus

PayPal vs debit card bonus: for most UK welcome offers, a debit card deposit qualifies and a PayPal deposit doesn’t. Coral and Ladbrokes both exclude PayPal from their free spins offers, while 10bet only excludes Skrill and Neteller. Here is how each method fares at our five partners, what it means for withdrawals, and how to avoid losing an offer by paying the wrong way.

Key takeaways

  • PayPal deposits don’t qualify for Coral’s or Ladbrokes’ welcome offers; a debit card is the usual qualifying route.
  • Coral also excludes certain debit cards, so check its terms for which ones before you deposit.
  • 10bet’s welcome bonus excludes Skrill and Neteller but does not list PayPal; Casumo says payment restrictions apply.
  • Credit cards can’t be used to gamble in Great Britain, including through a PayPal account funded by a credit card.

PayPal vs debit card bonus: the short answer

A debit card casino bonus is the safest route to a welcome offer: Visa and Mastercard debit cards are the method that bonus terms least often exclude. A PayPal casino bonus is less certain. Among our partners, Coral and Ladbrokes list PayPal as a method that won’t trigger their free spins, while 10bet’s welcome bonus terms exclude Skrill and Neteller but not PayPal.

There is one twist on the debit card side. Coral’s offer also says certain debit cards don’t qualify, so a card is not automatically safe there; read the list in the terms. If the offer matters to you, make the qualifying deposit with a method the terms clearly allow, then use whichever method you prefer afterwards, within the casino’s own payment rules.

PayPal vs debit card at each partner’s welcome offer

This table combines each offer’s payment exclusions (terms checked 5 October 2026) with the payment methods the casinos publish. Where something isn’t published, we say so.

Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ help centres list Visa, Mastercard and Maestro debit cards, PayPal, Pay by Bank, Apple Pay, Google Pay and paysafecard among deposit methods, as set out on the Ladbrokes deposit methods page (opens in a new tab). Being accepted for deposits is not the same as qualifying for the bonus.

Why PayPal is often excluded from casino bonuses

Casinos rarely give a reason in their terms; they simply list the methods that don’t qualify. E-wallets and prepaid cards tend to appear together on those lists, which points to the usual concerns: these methods can make it easier to open several accounts behind one identity, and they add a layer between the casino and the bank account. Our answer to why PayPal deposits are excluded looks at this in more depth.

PayPal has its own rules too. Its policy on gambling activities (opens in a new tab) only permits gambling payments to approved sellers in places where gambling is legal, which is why PayPal appears at some UK casinos and not others. The e-wallet casino bonus page covers Skrill, Neteller and other wallets.

What paying with the wrong method costs

The cost of an excluded deposit is the offer you miss. These figures use each offer’s face value and a 96% RTP average for spins, or bonus minus about 4% of the wagering for match bonuses.

Withdrawals: how PayPal and debit cards compare

After the bonus, how you get money out matters as much as how you put it in. Casinos generally pay withdrawals back to the method you deposited with where possible, so the method you choose for the qualifying deposit can shape your withdrawal too.

Coral’s Visa Fast Funds help page (opens in a new tab) notes that payouts over £2,000 can take longer. Internal approval time is added to the method’s own time at every casino. Our withdrawal rules page explains what operators must do, and how long withdrawals take after a bonus covers bonus-specific delays.

Credit cards, PayPal and the UK gambling rules

Since 14 April 2020, UK-licensed operators can’t accept credit card payments for gambling, including credit card money passed through a payment service. The Gambling Commission’s guide to gambling using a credit card (opens in a new tab) explains the rule. For e-wallets, the Commission says operators should make sure the money wasn’t loaded from a credit card.

In practice, that means a PayPal account backed only by a credit card isn’t a lawful way to fund a casino deposit in Great Britain. A debit card draws on your bank account directly, so it doesn’t raise this issue. See the credit card ban page and our answer to can I use a credit card at a casino.

Bank blocks and safer gambling with PayPal or a debit card

Many UK banks let you block gambling payments from your debit card in their app, and the Gambling Commission keeps a list of banks offering gambling payment blocks (opens in a new tab). HSBC says its debit card restriction also covers payments through digital wallets. Coverage of PayPal transactions varies by bank, so check your bank’s own help page rather than assuming a block catches everything.

Whichever method you use, set a deposit limit before your first deposit. UK customers at Coral and Ladbrokes are also limited to three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days, which keeps your spending in fewer places. Our guides to setting deposit limits and to individual bank blocks, such as the Barclays gambling block, explain the steps.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a casino bonus with PayPal?

Sometimes, but many UK welcome offers exclude it. Coral and Ladbrokes both list PayPal as a method that won’t qualify for their free spins. 10bet’s welcome bonus excludes Skrill and Neteller but doesn’t list PayPal, and Casumo says payment restrictions apply, so read its terms. If an offer matters to you, a qualifying debit card is the safer route. Our PayPal casino bonus page covers PayPal offers in detail.

Does a debit card always qualify for a casino bonus?

Usually, but not always. Debit cards are the method that bonus terms least often exclude, yet Coral’s offer says certain debit cards don’t qualify, so check which cards it names before depositing. Credit cards never qualify, because they can’t be used to gamble in Great Britain. If in doubt, ask support before you pay. Our debit card casino bonus page explains the details.

Why is PayPal excluded from Coral and Ladbrokes offers?

The terms don’t give a reason; they simply list PayPal alongside other e-wallets and prepaid cards as methods that don’t qualify. Casinos often exclude these methods together, which suggests concerns about bonus abuse and extra layers between the casino and your bank. Whatever the reason, a PayPal deposit won’t trigger either welcome offer. Use a qualifying debit card instead. Read how payment exclusions work for more.

Can I deposit with a debit card and withdraw to PayPal?

Usually not straight away, because casinos generally pay back to the method you deposited with where possible. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ help centres say PayPal withdrawals need a PayPal deposit within the last 6 months. Card deposits are normally returned to the same card. Ask the casino’s support team if you want to change method. Our page on Coral withdrawal times explains Coral’s process.

Is PayPal faster than a debit card for withdrawals?

It depends on the casino. Casumo says PayPal withdrawals arrive instantly after approval, while cards take up to 2 days. Coral and Ladbrokes publish Visa Fast Funds card payouts of typically up to 4 hours after approval, but no PayPal time. 10bet says debit cards and e-wallets take up to 2 business days. Approval time comes first at every casino. See how long do withdrawals take after a bonus.

Can I use PayPal funded by a credit card at a casino?

No; since 14 April 2020 UK-licensed casinos can’t accept credit card payments for gambling, and that includes credit card money passed through an e-wallet. The Gambling Commission says operators taking e-wallet payments such as PayPal should make sure the funds weren’t loaded from a credit card. Use a PayPal balance or linked bank account instead, or a debit card. See the credit card ban page.

What if I deposited with PayPal by mistake?

The offer usually won’t be credited, and it normally can’t be added afterwards. Contact the casino’s support team and ask, but be prepared for a no, because the terms set out the exclusion in advance. Your deposit is still your money and can be withdrawn under the usual rules. Don’t open a second account to try again, which breaks the terms. Read why was my bonus not credited.

Does PlayOJO accept PayPal for its free spins?

PlayOJO’s help page names debit cards, Payz, Apple Pay and Trustly among its payment methods but doesn’t mention PayPal, so check the cashier for the current list. The offer terms we hold don’t list payment exclusions, but read the full terms before depositing. The offer is 80 free spins at 10p on Big Bass Bonanza with a £10 first deposit, winnings paid in cash. See PlayOJO payment methods.

Can I block gambling on PayPal like a debit card?

Bank gambling blocks are mainly built around debit card payments, and coverage of PayPal varies by bank. HSBC says its debit card restriction also covers payments through digital wallets, but other banks may differ, so check your bank’s own help page. GAMSTOP and casino deposit limits apply whichever method you use. Our bonuses and GAMSTOP guide explains how self-exclusion works alongside bank blocks.
