Casumo verification

Casumo verification is the age and identity check every UK-licensed casino must complete before you can deposit or play, including with the 50% welcome bonus. 18+, terms apply. Most checks run automatically when you register; documents are only needed if those checks can't confirm you. Here's what the rules require, what to prepare and how verification fits with claiming and withdrawing.

Key takeaways

  • UK rules have required age and identity checks before any deposit or play, bonus included, since 7 May 2019.
  • Casumo must confirm at least your name, address and date of birth; documents are requested only if database checks fall short.
  • A casino can't hold back a withdrawal for ID it could reasonably have asked for earlier.
  • Net deposits over £150 in 30 days trigger a public-record financial vulnerability check, not a credit check.
  • Verify before you deposit for the bonus, so the 7-day wagering clock isn't spent waiting.

What Casumo verification involves

Casumo's UK casino is run by Recro Limited, which holds a Gambling Commission remote casino licence under account number 61549, active since 21 December 2023. You can see the entry on the Gambling Commission's public register (opens in a new tab). That licence means Casumo must follow the Commission's rules on knowing its customers, so verification isn't optional and it isn't a sign that anything is wrong with your account.

In practice, verification has two parts. First, Casumo checks the details you enter at registration against electronic records. If that confirms your age and identity, you may never be asked for a document. If it doesn't, you'll be asked to upload proof. Later, depending on how much you deposit, further checks on your finances can follow. Our main Casumo bonus review covers the offer itself; this page is about the checks around it.

The UK rules behind Casumo verification

Licence condition 17.1.1 requires operators to obtain and verify a customer's identity, including name, address and date of birth, before the customer is allowed to gamble. It also says that before you deposit, the operator should tell you what documents or information may be needed, when, and how to provide them. The full text is in the Commission's customer identity verification condition (opens in a new tab).

Timeline of UK online verification rules
DateChange
Before 7 May 2019Online operators had up to 72 hours to complete age checks
7 May 2019Age and identity must be verified before depositing or gambling, including with a free bet or bonus; free-to-play demos also need age verification
31 October 2021Reverse withdrawals banned; withdrawal requests can't be cancelled to keep playing
30 August 2024Financial vulnerability checks begin at £500 net deposits in 30 days
28 February 2025Threshold lowered to £150 net deposits in a rolling 30 days

The Commission's consumer guide on age and ID verification (opens in a new tab) explains the same rules in plain terms, including that checks cover whether you have self-excluded. Our age verification before play and KYC rules pages go into the regulations in depth.

When Casumo verification checks happen

Stages of verification at a UK online casino
StageWhat's checkedHow
RegistrationAge, name, address, date of birthElectronic checks against credit reference and electoral roll data
Self-exclusion checkWhether you're registered with GAMSTOPLicensed operators check before allowing play
Document request (if needed)Identity and addressUpload of ID and proof of address; a selfie may be asked for if fraud is suspected
Payment method checksThat cards and wallets are yoursMatching names and details
Financial vulnerability checkPublic records such as bankruptcy or CCJsTriggered at £150 net deposits in a rolling 30 days
Source of funds questionsWhere gambling money comes fromBank statements or similar, for anti-money laundering or harm checks

The first three stages happen before you can deposit. The later ones depend on your activity. A check a gambling business needs at registration should happen at registration: the Commission says a withdrawal request mustn't trigger requests for information that could reasonably have been asked for earlier, unless another legal duty requires it at that point.

Documents you may need for Casumo verification

Casumo's help centre is the place to check its current list of accepted documents and upload method. The Commission's guidance gives the usual examples: a passport or driving licence for identity, and a recent household bill for address. Our proof of address glossary entry explains what usually qualifies.

Common verification documents and what they prove

How to complete Casumo verification smoothly

  1. Register using your full legal name, current address and date of birth exactly as on your documents.
  2. Wait for the automatic check; if it passes, no documents are needed for now.
  3. If Casumo asks for documents, open the request in your account or email and note what is asked for.
  4. Upload clear, complete images of the requested documents through the method Casumo specifies.
  5. Use payment methods in your own name only.
  6. Watch for a confirmation message; if nothing arrives, contact hey@casumo.com between 7:00 and 23:00 UK time.
  7. Once verified, opt in to the welcome offer and make your qualifying deposit of £20 or more.

Our general guide on how to verify a casino account covers the same process across UK sites, and our page on how long casino verification takes looks at typical waits.

Casumo verification and the welcome bonus

You can't claim a bonus at a UK-licensed casino without being verified, because you can't deposit or play until the checks are done. That's why offers promising a casino bonus without verification should make you cautious: at a UK-licensed site, that isn't how the rules work. Our page on whether you have to verify before a bonus explains the background.

Timing still matters. Casumo's welcome bonus, 50% up to £100 on a first deposit of £20 or more, must be wagered 10 times within 7 days, with a £5 maximum bet. 18+, opt-in required, game, play and payment restrictions apply. If a document request were to arrive part-way through and pause play, those days would still count. Completing verification before your qualifying deposit avoids that. Our how to claim the Casumo bonus guide puts verification in the right place in the sequence, and the Casumo bonus expiry page explains the deadline.

Financial checks after Casumo verification

Identity checks are not the end of it. Since 28 February 2025, when your deposits minus withdrawals pass £150 in a rolling 30 days, UK operators must run a financial vulnerability check using public records such as bankruptcies, county court judgments and debt relief orders. It doesn't need your input and isn't repeated if a check was done in the previous 12 months. Our financial vulnerability checks page sets out the detail.

You may also be asked about your source of funds, for anti-money laundering reasons or to check that you aren't gambling money you don't have. The Commission's page on why gambling businesses want to know about your finances (opens in a new tab) explains that bank statements may be requested. Credit-reference-based financial risk assessments were piloted but are not live, and the Commission says it has no plans for affordability checks. Our source of funds entry and guide on how affordability checks affect bonuses explain more.

Why Casumo verification can take longer

  • Details don't match: a nickname, old address or typo in your date of birth can fail the automatic check.
  • Recently moved: electronic records can lag behind a new address, so a bill may be needed.
  • Unclear images: cropped, blurry or glare-covered photos are often rejected.
  • Payment method in another name: a card or wallet that isn't yours will be queried, and using one breaks most terms.
  • Out-of-hours requests: Casumo lists UK support hours of 7:00 to 23:00, so overnight questions may wait until morning.
  • Extra checks: source of funds questions take longer because they involve financial documents.

If your account is limited while checks run, our page on why an account is restricted explains common reasons. If a withdrawal is held, read why was my withdrawal declined.

What Casumo can and can't do during verification

UK rules protect you as well as the operator. A gambling business can't remove your funds simply because you couldn't verify your identity, and it can't confiscate money because you didn't verify within a time limit. Your un-staked deposits remain yours. Equally, an operator can refuse to let you gamble until checks are complete, and can withhold winnings where play broke clearly stated terms, such as using someone else's account.

On withdrawals, Casumo says requests are reviewed within hours and its withdrawal policy says they are approved or denied within 3 days. After approval, debit cards take up to 2 days, bank transfers up to 5 days, and PayPal, Apple Pay, Skrill, Neteller and MuchBetter are instant. More is on our Casumo withdrawal time page. If you think a verification decision is unfair, our Casumo bonus complaints page explains how to escalate.

Verification, GAMSTOP and safer gambling

Part of verification is checking whether you've self-excluded. If you're registered with GAMSTOP, licensed operators such as Casumo must not let you open an account or gamble, and bonuses aren't available. That's the scheme working as intended. Our GAMSTOP rules page explains how it applies.

If you're struggling to stay within limits, free help is available from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, open 24 hours a day and run by GamCare. Our responsible gambling page lists more services, including NHS gambling clinics and bank gambling blocks.

Frequently asked questions

Does Casumo verify your identity?

Yes. As a UK-licensed casino run by Recro Limited (Gambling Commission account 61549), Casumo must verify your age and identity before you can deposit or gamble. At minimum that means confirming your name, address and date of birth. Most of the time this happens automatically when you register, using electronic records; you're asked for documents only if those checks can't confirm you. 18+. Our KYC glossary entry explains the term, and age verification before play covers the rule.

How long does Casumo verification take?

Electronic checks at registration are usually completed within moments. If documents are needed, the time depends on how clear your uploads are and when you send them; Casumo's offer terms and the pages we checked don't publish a target time. Support is available by email at hey@casumo.com from 7:00 to 23:00 UK time, so late-night uploads may be reviewed the next morning. Our page on how long casino verification takes and the guide on how to verify a casino account give more context.

Can I claim the Casumo bonus without verifying?

No. UK rules, in force since 7 May 2019, say age and identity must be verified before you can deposit or gamble, including with a bonus. Since the Casumo welcome offer needs a first deposit of £20, you can't claim it until verification is complete. Verifying early also means the 7-day wagering window isn't used up waiting for a document review. 18+, terms apply. Our pages on whether you can get a bonus without ID and how to claim the Casumo bonus explain more.

What documents does Casumo ask for?

Casumo's help centre lists its accepted documents. Under Gambling Commission guidance, operators commonly ask for photo ID such as a passport or driving licence, and proof of address such as a recent household bill or bank statement. A selfie may be requested if fraud is suspected, and bank statements may be needed for source of funds questions. Licence rules say Casumo should tell you before you deposit what may be needed and how to provide it. Our proof of address entry and why casinos ask for proof of address page explain more.

Can Casumo ask for ID when I withdraw?

Only in limited cases. Gambling Commission rules say a withdrawal request must not trigger requests for information that could reasonably have been asked for earlier, unless another legal obligation requires it at that point, such as anti-money laundering checks. Since identity must be verified before you can play, most ID checks should already be done. Casumo says withdrawals are approved or denied within 3 days. Our Casumo withdrawal time page and why was my withdrawal declined explain what can slow a payout.

Why has Casumo asked for bank statements?

Bank statements are usually requested to understand your source of funds. The Gambling Commission says operators may ask for them for anti-money laundering reasons, to check that gambling money comes from a legitimate source, and for social responsibility reasons, to spot signs you may be gambling money you don't have. A request isn't an accusation. If you're unsure why you've been asked, ask Casumo support to explain. Our pages on what a source of funds check is and financial vulnerability checks give the detail.

Does Casumo run a credit check on me?

Initial identity checks may use data held by credit reference agencies to confirm your name, address and age, but that's identity matching, not a credit assessment. Separately, once your net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days, UK operators must run a financial vulnerability check on public records such as bankruptcy and county court judgments. Credit-reference-based financial risk assessments were only piloted and are not live. Our guide on how affordability checks affect bonuses explains where things stand in October 2026.

What happens if I fail Casumo verification?

If Casumo can't confirm your age and identity, it can't let you deposit or gamble, so you won't be able to use the welcome bonus. Usually the fix is simple: correct a typo in your details or upload a clearer document. UK guidance says an operator shouldn't remove your funds just because you couldn't verify your identity, and un-staked deposits remain yours. If you think a decision is wrong, ask for an explanation in writing. Our Casumo bonus complaints page explains how to escalate a dispute.

Is it safe to send ID documents to Casumo?

Casumo is licensed by the Gambling Commission through Recro Limited, which is what allows it to ask for identity documents under UK law. Upload documents only through the method Casumo specifies in your account or official messages, never through links in unexpected emails or texts. Cover the middle digits and security code on any card photo. You can check the licence on the Commission's register. Our is Casumo legit page explains the licence, and how to check a casino licence shows the steps.

Does verification check if I'm on GAMSTOP?

Yes. UK-licensed operators must check whether you've self-excluded through GAMSTOP before letting you gamble, and the Commission's consumer guide lists self-exclusion as part of what verification covers. If you're registered, you won't be able to open an account or claim a bonus at Casumo until your exclusion ends. That is the scheme doing its job. If you're thinking about self-exclusion, our GAMSTOP entry and responsible gambling page explain how it works and where to find support.
