Folsom Prison free spins are triggered by three scatters for Walk The Line or four for The Chair, each with at least eight spins, according to Nolimit City. Casino promotional spins on the game are a different thing: 100 at 10p are £10 of play with an average return of about £9.61 at the 96.07% default RTP, on a game rated insane volatility.
Three scatters start Walk The Line, four start The Chair; both give at least eight spins.
The grid starts locked at 16 ways and opens towards a 4-6-6-6-4 layout as cockroaches and features break cells free.
100 promotional spins at 10p average about £9.61 back; the top prize is 75,000 times the stake, or £7,500 at 10p.
None of our partners advertises spins on Folsom Prison; PlayOJO's 80 are on Big Bass Bonanza and Coral and Ladbrokes list their selected games.
18+ and terms apply; insane volatility means most short batches return less than their value.

Folsom Prison free spins and the locked grid
Nolimit City released Folsom Prison on 14 June 2022. It's a prison-break slot in the studio's typical style: a grid that starts mostly closed off, with only 16 ways to win, and opens towards a 4-6-6-6-4 layout as features free locked cells. Nolimit City rates its volatility "insane", a step beyond extreme on the studio's own scale, and lists a top prize of 75,000 times the stake.
Searches for Folsom Prison free spins cover two things. One is the game's own free spins rounds, which you reach through scatters. The other is promotional spins a casino gives you, which come with offer terms. We'll take the in-game rounds first, then the value of promotional spins. All the spin offers we track are on our free spins hub.
How to trigger free spins on Folsom Prison
Nolimit City's game page sets out two tiers. Three scatters start Walk The Line with at least eight spins; four start The Chair, also with at least eight spins, which is the higher tier and starts with more ways to win. Any scatter affected by an xSplit adds one more spin.
In the base game, landing two scatters doesn't start a round, but it isn't wasted: the two convert into one of four symbols, either xWays, xSplit, a Wild or a Cockroach Nest, and the middle two rows on reel 5 open.
Open the game rules before you start and find the scatter section.
Check the scatter counts for Walk The Line and The Chair and the starting number of spins.
Read what two scatters do in the base game in your version.
Read how cockroaches move and which cells they can open.
Check the RTP shown, as a casino may use a setting other than 96.07%.
Decide your budget first; on an insane-volatility game, rounds can be a long way apart.

The developer's page describes The Chair as the stronger round because it starts with more of the grid open. Both rounds rely on cockroaches spreading across the grid and opening locked cells, which is how the ways count climbs. The help screen gives the full detail of what cockroaches do in each round in the version you're playing.
Promotional spins can trigger either round, since they run on the same rules as paid spins. See can free spins trigger the bonus round for how winnings from a triggered round are treated under an offer.
Cockroach Nest, xSplit and the other Folsom Prison symbols
Cockroach Nest: a wild-type symbol that spawns cockroaches in open positions on the three middle reels. Cockroaches move around the grid and open locked cells.
xSplit: splits symbols to its left, doubling the ways they pay, then turns into a Wild.
xWays: turns into a paying symbol and increases the number of ways to win.
Wild: substitutes for paying symbols and can land on any reel except reel 1.
Nolimit City's page also describes an optional Toast Bet that costs an extra 20% per spin and guarantees a scatter on reel 2. Whether it appears in the version your casino runs is shown in the game rules. With promotional spins the stake is fixed by the offer, so a bet option like this wouldn't normally apply to them. Other Nolimit City prison games we cover include San Quentin xWays and San Quentin 2.

The last column shows how much of this game's return sits in rare, huge outcomes. That's what an insane rating means: the average holds over a vast number of spins, but a single batch of 50 or 100 is far more likely to land below its face value than near it. Our answer on whether you can lose money with free spins and our guide to free spins maths explain why.
Folsom Prison free spins no wagering vs wagering
On a game this volatile, wagering is especially costly. If spin winnings carry wagering, you need to stake them a set number of times, up to the 10x cap that has applied since 19 January 2026, and on an insane-volatility slot the balance can easily run out before you finish.
On average figures: 100 spins return about £9.61. At 10x, that's £96.10 to stake. At a 3.93% house edge, the expected cost is about £3.78, leaving about £5.83. With no wagering free spins, the full £9.61 average is cash. Our free spins wagering explained page and the 10x wagering cap page give the background.
Folsom Prison free spins no deposit
We can't list a Folsom Prison free spins no deposit offer: none of our partners runs a no-deposit bonus. Where other UK-licensed sites offer no-deposit spins, they're usually small, capped and short-lived, and come after age and identity checks. On a game where most of the value sits in rare results, a winnings cap can remove much of what small batches could ever pay. See our no deposit bonus guide.
Folsom Prison under UK rules
Nolimit City's page lists feature buy options for this game. Slots supplied to Great Britain aren't offered with a feature buy, so UK players reach Walk The Line and The Chair only through scatters. The usual UK rules also apply:
£5 maximum stake per spin for players aged 25 and over (since 9 April 2025) and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds (since 21 May 2025).
No autoplay, turbo or slam-stop, and at least 2.5 seconds per spin (since 31 October 2021).
Age verification before any play, including demo mode.
Operators must offer tools such as deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.
Before claiming any Folsom Prison bonus, read these lines:
The game list: spins are limited to the selected games named.
Stake per spin: almost always 10p.
Wagering: none is best; 10x is the most allowed.
Cap on winnings, measured against the £7,500 top prize per 10p spin.
Expiry: how long you have to claim and to use the spins.
Qualifying deposit methods, since many offers exclude e-wallets and prepaid cards.
Once you've opted in, the Gambling Commission says an operator shouldn't change the promotion to your disadvantage; its guidance on the right to vary a promotion (opens in a new tab) explains the rule.

Frequently asked questions
How do you trigger free spins on Folsom Prison?
Land three scatters for Walk The Line or four for The Chair. Nolimit City's game page says both rounds start with at least eight spins, and any scatter affected by an xSplit adds one more. Two scatters in the base game don't start a round but convert into a feature symbol and open rows on reel 5. The help screen in your casino's version is the final word. Our free spins round glossary entry explains in-game rounds generally.
What is the Folsom Prison RTP?
The default RTP is 96.07%, giving a house edge of 3.93%. That means the game is designed to return about £96.07 for every £100 staked over a very long run. On an insane-volatility slot, short sessions can be wildly different from that figure. Casinos may run a different setting, so check the help screen. Our RTP information rules page explains what UK casinos must show you about a game's return.
Which is better, Walk The Line or The Chair?
The developer describes The Chair as the higher tier: it needs four scatters rather than three and starts with more ways to win open. Both give at least eight spins. That said, neither round changes the game's overall RTP; they're both part of it. The Chair is rarer, so you'll see it less often. You don't choose between them, as the scatter count decides. Our bonus round entry explains how in-game bonuses fit into a slot's return.
How much are 100 Folsom Prison free spins worth?
At 10p each, 100 spins have a face value of £10 and an average return of about £9.61. On a game rated insane volatility, few batches land near that figure: many return a small fraction of it and a very few return far more. The top prize per 10p spin is £7,500. With 10x wagering on winnings, the average value drops to about £5.83. See what is the average win from 100 free spins.
Are there Folsom Prison free spins with no wagering?
Not through our partners, none of which credits spins to this game. Wager-free spin offers are common elsewhere: PlayOJO, Coral and Ladbrokes all pay winnings from their spins as cash on their own listed games. If another UK-licensed casino offers wager-free spins on Folsom Prison, check for a cap on winnings and the expiry, because both matter on a game with a 75,000x top prize. Our free spins keep what you win page explains how cash winnings work.
Can I get Folsom Prison free spins no deposit?
Not from our partners, as none of them runs a no-deposit bonus. Some other UK-licensed casinos offer small no-deposit spin batches, typically with a low cap on winnings and a short expiry, and always after age and identity checks. Read the wagering and cap lines before claiming. Our answer do no deposit bonuses still exist covers where things stand in the UK now.
What does insane volatility mean on Folsom Prison?
It's Nolimit City's label for its most volatile games, above extreme. It means results are very uneven: long runs of small or no wins, and rare outcomes many thousands of times the stake. The RTP is the same kind of long-run average as on any slot, but far more of it sits in rare results. For a batch of promotional spins, that makes a low return the most likely outcome. Our volatility glossary entry explains the scale.
Can I use the Folsom Prison feature buy in the UK?
No. The developer's page lists feature buy options, but slots supplied to Great Britain aren't offered with them. UK players reach Walk The Line and The Chair only by landing scatters. UK stake limits of £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds also apply, along with the ban on autoplay and turbo play. Our slot game design rules page lists the UK requirements.
Is a Folsom Prison bonus worth it?
Only as entertainment, and with clear limits. Wager-free spins at 10p are worth about 96p per pound of spin value on average here, but insane volatility means most batches pay less. Wagering lowers the value further, and the 3.93% house edge applies to everything you stake afterwards. No bonus changes the long-run cost of play, and losses are the likely result over time. Our guide is a casino bonus worth it runs the numbers.
